Garrett Has Lost Me

Didn't we just win? Didn't we just beat another NFL team by 21 points? Wow, just think if we would have called a better game. We could have beaten them by 24.

ESPN, FoxSports, and NFL.com all show Crayton with 2 fumbles both recovered by the Cowboys and 1 by Romo recovered by the Hawks, and 0 by anyone else.

was an oustanding call as well:

Screen to Marty B that got most of those yards back and then some. Witten got the first down after that.

They're all wrong. Miles had his in the 1st quarter and Crayton had his in the 3rd quarter.

Here's the play by play from the end of the 1st quarter to the 1st first down in the 2nd quarter:

1-10-SEA30 (1:52) F.Jones up the middle to SEA 33 for -3 yards (C.Cole; D.Hawthorne).

2-13-SEA33 (1:09) T.Romo pass short right to R.Williams to SEA 21 for 12 yards (M.Trufant). Pass complete on a curl.

3-1-SEA21 :)20) M.Austin right end to SEA 16 for 5 yards (J.Babineaux). FUMBLES (J.Babineaux), and recovers at SEA 19.

PENALTY on DAL-M.Bennett, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at SEA 21 - No Play.

Second Quarter

Dallas Cowboys continued...
3-11-SEA31 (15:00) (Shotgun) T.Romo pass short middle to P.Crayton to SEA 15 for 16 yards (D.Grant). Pass complete on a curl route.

austin fumbled on a pitch to him which was a great playcall. Austin got popped pretty good.

Crayton's fumble and how they got the first down afterwards in the 3rd quarter:

1-10-SEA49 (6:08) P.Crayton left end to DAL 42 for -9 yards. FUMBLES, and recovers at DAL 42. P.Crayton to DAL 40 for -2 yards (L.Hill). fumbled exchange between Romo and Crayton on end-around to the left side

2-21-DAL40 (5:32) (Shotgun) T.Romo pass short left to M.Bennett to SEA 47 for 13 yards (D.Grant). Tight end screen pass.

3-8-SEA47 (4:44) (Shotgun) T.Romo pass short left to J.Witten to SEA 38 for 9 yards (K.Lucas).

So now the complaint is that the 3rd and 1 pitch to Austin -- it was not a reverse -- where he actually converted the first down, was a bad play call??

Lawdamercy.

I think Garret's philosophy is to set up the run with the pass which means we'll be throwing the ball the majority of the time in the first half. In the second half, we'll do more running than passing with a lead.

The reason why this is weird is because unlike a West Coast offense, Garrett's offense does not focus on short, high percentage throws. Thankfully, he has a very good QB that can pull this off most of the time. I think Garrett knows that too, so he goes with it.

I'm fine with that philosophy. It's been working so far.

The thing that worries me is that the best way to beat this team is to take away the PASS not the run. If you frustrate this passing game and force us to nickel and dime our way down the field, you'll see us turn the ball over and commit stupid penalties. We have a tendency to implode, so thank God for the homerun ball.
