For this particular game dude. Geesh. You guys who hate Garrett are so worried about being wrong, even for a game. Lol

My post indicated the game, not comparing their careers. Lol Just admit that Payton did not do his job getting the Saints prepared, and Garrett did! Thus, Garrett out coached the illustrious Payton!

Go watch romos post game interview and wait til bout 8:30... it's Linehan not Garrett

Please go sit in the corner.

Please go listen to romos post game press conference... at about 8:30 all he does is talk bout how Linehan is running the show offensively.

Don't get me wrong guys, garreett is doing a good job putting offensive pieces in place, but Linehan in coaching this offense.

So Garret gets the blame when the offense and defense is bad. When those guys are fired we are "scapegoating."

But when the offense and defense are good it has nothing to do with JG?

Now we are getting a little carried away with this lol

Garrett > payton?!?! Seriously
Romo > Brees too right?

Let's say for the sake of this post that Payton is widely considered better than Garrett as a Head Coach.

The said better Head Coach's first choice for a quarterback when taking over the Saints in 2006 was one Tony Romo. At the time he was untested and yet to become the starter (he would become the starter that season.) Payton offered the Cowboys a second round pick for Romo, and Parcells/Jerry declined.

Sean Payton then settled on Daunte Culpepper--his second choice after Romo--who then turned down the Saints to sign with Miami. Payton then went with his third choice, the recently injured Drew Brees.

Now, that worked out for Payton and Brees, but what does that tell you about the "better" Head Coach's choice of which quarterback is better?

We don't know what Romo would have done in NO. And I'm glad we don't. But I personally believe the gap between Romo and Brees isn't that wide. And it seems the coaches and GMs in the know might agree with me.

Today, Garrett out coach Payton and it wasn't even close. Does Garrett have the control Payton does behind the scenes? Probably not. But Payton running a fake punt, with a motion play that pretty much tipped off everyone before the ball was snapped, was ludicrous. The Saints certainly weren't completely out of it at that point, and Payton put them in a situation that realistically could't succeed.

On a semi-related note, Garrett really hasn't messed up this season. In fact, I have every reason to believe that if we can play the opening week's game again, sporting this balanced attack, having Romo and his back where it is now rather than then, and not giving the Niners defense damn near 14 points, we probably win that game. It looks like we can at least hang at this point (the SEA visit will tell us a lot more) and Garrett should be looked at as part of the solution.

It has nothing to do with him if the starting QB pretty much tells everyone that he had nothing to do with it... he mentions Linehan by name as the best he has ever seen at adjusting to what the defense is doing.

I will say our clock management problems seem to have disappeared since Linehan came aboard, notwithstanding the occasional mystifying delay-of-game penalty.

So Garrett gets zero credit because Romo didn't say his name?! He's the head coach. He was obviously instrumental in the game plan.

Again. JG owns the failure of the his assistants when things go poorly.

JG apparently does not own the success of his assistants when things go great.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

It would be one thing if Romo came out and said the "play calling was great." "The coaching was great." BUT he didn't HE is giving linehan all the credit, and as the QB I'm fairly certain he know what he talking about... so imma go with the person who works with these ppl daily, not the lion king guy on the Internet...
