That's ridiculous. 7 to 8 years after romo? Come on man. Took the colts 2 years after blowing up the team and drafting a qb

LOL if you think Romo is on par or even close to a 3 time NFL MVP who has appeared in 3 Super Bowls and winning 1 with a MVP honor. Snap out of your slant and take off your blinders. I'm a Romo fan but I'm not ********.

You disguise it well.

I just saw an interview with Peyton & he was talking about how he has lost a lot of arm strength. He said he is still waiting for the nerves in his arm to heal.

If Tony is affected at all, weakness will most likely be in his right leg (plant leg).

For the people that are comparing Romo being 34 with Manning being 38 and still performing at a high level please stop. Manning has always had good offensive lines and for instance he was only sacked 18 times all year where Romo was sacked 35 times. You put Manning on the Cowboys with their O-line and Manning would have been sacked 50 times. Manning, Brady, and Brees have always played with better lines than Romo so you can't just compare ages.

Well, that's partly due to scheme.

Denver gets the ball out quick. Us, on the other hand, like to have Dez run down the field, sip a cup of tea and then try and get open.

Romo is not a pure pocket passer like Brady or Manning, part of his game is elusiveness which rapidly declines with age. Like others have said Romo has also taken a lot of big hits so I would be surprised if he is able to play at a high level for more than a couple years.

I remember all the way back to C. Morton. Troy was good on the deep ball, not the best, but he could throw it. Romo has become a dink and dunk QB the last couple of years. The deep ball is needed in this offense. It sure worked well a few years ago when Romo had the arm to complete the deep pass. He has even lost the zip on his mid-range passes. His back may have been to blame in some way, but the arm was fading before the back issues.

Troy was never good on the deep throws and did not throw many at all. He's admitted as much in the past. Romo has never thrown the deep ball much either and is only very slightly better than Aikman at doing so.

Romo is elusive but he has never been much a runner most of what he does is sense pressure and move to avoid but Romo has never been a guy who is going to outrun many people.

Yeah, maybe that is how he feels now.. he might be singing a different tune if he gets hammered and needs major back surgery. It's crazy to make a comment like that. He has no idea how he will feel in a couple of years. Age has a funny way of sneaking up on you.

It's a good thing that the decision ain't up to the players.

I agree. This isn't rocket science. he has plenty of tire on the treads (though I do think the franchise needs to be thinking about the future) and QBs play longer than most players.

P Manning will be 38 and 240 starts
Brady
will be 37 and has 191 starts

Roethlisberger is 32 and has 140 starts

Romo will be 34 and has only 108 starts (63-45)
Cutler will be 31 and has 104 starts
Ryan
will be 29 and 98 starts.

You're going to confuse everybody with stats and numbers that dont fit the agenda driven narrative.

P Manning will be 38 and 240 starts
Brady
will be 37 and has 191 starts
Brees
will be 35 and has 185 starts

Big Ben will be 32 and has 140 starts
Rivers
will be 32 and has 128 starts

Romo will be 34 and has only 108 starts (63-45)
Cutler will be 31 and has 104 starts
Ryan
will be 29 and 98 starts.

I hope those are the actual factuals. But the true test of any intellectual debate is whether the facts will be accepted or rejected when presented. If not then the discussion is null and void.

I think Romo has a slower 40 time than Peyton Manning.

True.
And I do understand the comments about O-lines, number of hits, etc.
But the number of starts are so much lower than usual for a player his age, that I thought it was worth listing other players as well.
He's way closer to guys like Cutler and Ryan then the oldest guys.
Even if you split the difference--which is fair because he's older than the younger group--you have him getting another 2-3 seasons minimum without much decline.

Here's one of the sources I use for stats.

None of us really know what's going to happen, but you can see why Garrett said what he said.

Young isn't exactly the word that comes to mind for someone who is 34 years old and has just had two back surgeries in the past year.

I hope Romo is fine and can play several more years at a high level. But, just in case, I still wouldn't hesitate to take Manziel, Bortles, or Bridgewater at 16 if they happen to be there.

Romo's health is a question mark, Orton was a no-show for voluntary workouts and may retire, and Weeden is , to put it bluntly, at this stage in his career, merely a Brown reject so far.

The only thing that matters is how he comes back after his surgery. Nobody knows & all this "he's a young player" is just talk. I'm sure he will do everything he can but they need to get a young guy in here for his "training." It's the Cowboy way.

It all depends on which side of 34 you are. By football standards its getting up there, but its not automatically an age where he is so old and broken down we have no hope - not at the QB position. Historically QB's can play well past 34 yrs of age.

I think Romo has always had a slower time, no one will confuse the foot speed of Romo and RGIII but when it comes to moving, sliding and buying time Romo just has a knack for it.
