But, from a purely subjective stance, you don't get to where he is without redeeming qualities.
.
You dont get to where he is without some serious contacts and *** kissing. He was a poor college player, but he played under good ole dad. Went to the CFL, was pretty awful, gets on the Cowboys because of good ole dad. He gets a job as a QB coach, never develops anyone, gets an assistant head coach gig because of good ole dad. Is a mediocre OC and a part of the 2009 collapse, gets promoted because of good ole dad.

He earned NOTHING in his football career.

And can we please get over this "ivy league" genius non sense while we are at it? He was a HISTORY MAJOR. No one cares about his dissertation on the peloponesian war.

Okay here's one - and by the way I'm not a defender of Garrett but he possess this and I believe it's pretty important. Brad Sham recently said that Garrett is the closest thing to Landry he's seen since he's been around the Cowboys (a long time). When Garrett walks into a meeting room it goes silent, not a word. He commands the respect of the people in it whether it be players or coaches. I believe that is earned not given and no matter how much you may hate him, that's a big thing in today's NFL.

As someone said I think he is a good big picture organizational coach who has trouble with strategy. But, from a purely subjective stance, you don't get to where he is without redeeming qualities.

You're smarter than that Sarge.

So the one thing you come up with is the room goes silent when he walks into it??? Yikes.

I will say this - you should be ashamed of yourself for using the words Tom Landry and Jason Garrett in the same sentence.

Put another way, in 2010 I felt we had a dreadful OL, terrible secondary, decent defensive line, mediocre linebacker corps and alright WR core. Since then I feel like every single one of these units, except the defensive line, has been improved in some way.

...and were still at .500.

Nice Post!

I am from New Jersey and grew up near Princeton. We all call Garrett - "Princeton Smart - Football Stupid".
The Eagles and Giant Fans in New Jersey love that Garrett is our HC. If Jerry and Stephen ever fire Garrett then it will be a very "Sad Day" for Eagle and Giant Fans in New Jersey.

I literally cant think of one thing I like about Garrett. Not one

Well, some seem to think that he's made some aspects of the team better by upgrading the talent in several areas....all while remaining at .500.

So, I guess even though he has a redeeming quality or two, it doesn't seem to make a difference in the win/loss column.

The more I read and listen to the more p. O. D I get. Garrett is totally f'ing lost at end of game situations and clock management.

He is the overall Head Coach.

His job is to make the overall team better.

Not aspects.

His record speaks for itself. Nothing more, nothing less.

The excuses have run out.

Put a better product on the field. However you do it, Garrett- just DO IT.

Otherwise he's a waste of everybody's time, money and energy.

Sad that some will still blindly defend a broken product.

When you have a receiver like Dez Bryant you gotta take shots to him down the field. You don't treat him like Torry Holt, Reggie Wayne, or Jerry Rice.

You treat him like Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson, and Larry Fitzgerald.

Hold on, what?! I like and want to agree with your argument but you are putting Jerry Rice in the Tory Holt, Reggie Wayne category? Andre, Larry and Calvin STILL can't hold Jerry's jockstrap. You're either very young or very naive.

Garrett is very fortunate that he got his coaching position based on his ties with the organization. He is a well known name despite being a benchwarmer for Aikman. Thats really the only reason why he got the coaching job.

He is very inexperienced. Jones bought the idea that he would bring some kind of revolutionary passing attack. That was nothing more than a myth. As everyone has seen so far, his scheme is basically useless. Its very vanilla - no man in motion, no pump fakes, no designed scramble plays, no play action, no screens, no quick slants, no, no, no.

Our offense is easy to defend. Its nothing more than Romo in shotgun most of the time. very predictable.

We need new way to play offense. Garrett's playbook needs to be thrown out the window.

Now don't even get me started with his coaching ability during crunch time. Its even worst.

I don't know how Garrett is NOT in the hot seat for a coaching change. I think Jones don't want to admit that he was wrong.

I don't know how much I buy what you said earlier; I think Garrett is getting raked over the coals for a loss where we gave up over 600 yards with a 4th string DL.

For the bolded part, though, I think a lot. I say this anecdotally only because I feel like I have watched very closely the way this team has been built with Parcells, Phillips and then Garrett. I feel like each of those three eras felt very different to me, regardless of Jerry Jones involvement.

I don't think a head coach in the 45 seconds to run a play has a chance to tell the team every last scenario of dos and dont's.

Detroit called a timeout before the play, he had plenty of time to tell the team to stress the only 3 elements that mattered - in-bounds, no turnover, and no penalty.

It was a classic hot stove stick-em up, well done by Jason. He parlayed 1 talent loaded season with Sparano into what? Like .......$15 - $20 million dollars so far..?
Jason knew that he wouldn't last beyond his second season in Baltimore and went for the long-term annuity. Very smart decision on his behalf.

At that time I think he was overrated and overhyped. Since then Ravens have won a superbowl and we are still average. Question is why?
I bet the Ravens are thanking their lucky stars Garrett didn't end up there......Super Bowl Championship and Garrett still hasn't reached the playoffs...

Call me when Jason has a QB who can read the field and make all the throws.
