Though you know the Eagles won it all with Foles. The right situation at the right time and a lot of QBs can win. With our talent on offense we don't have to have Dak to win.
The thing that is getting missed in the conversations is that Dak and his agent are trying to win in all three elements of the contract (there was a good article about this a bit ago) - guarantied money, yearly salary, and contract length. The article said that the Cowboys are winning to lose a little on 2 of the 3, but not all 3. That's really why this isn't signed. Dak wants a 4 year deal but isn't willing to budge on the other two.
Dalton has been to some pro bowls, so say what you want about Dak being better, Dalton is good enough to win in the right situation. I would hold tight and if Dak insists on winning on all three elements of the contract, and sits out then we have a reasonable fallback. The bad part of this contract negotiation in my mind is that if Dak plays on the tag this year, then even signing a 4 year deal next year would be like signing a 5 year deal. Why not do that in the first place? So if he ends up playing on the tag this is going to the way of Cousins IMO.
Of course Dak is unwilling to budge on anything. RIGHTFULLY SO. Dak is RIGHTFULLY DONE being UNDERPAID.
The Dallas Cowboys got the production of the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks (Wentz and Goff) OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS...WHILE PAYING 1/10 THE COSTS!
The Cowboys then want to turn around and structure Dak's contract he has all the drawback of a first round pick WITHOUT any of the benefits. The Cowboys, and I don't blame them for trying, wants to control Dak like the Eagles and Rams control Wentz and Goff...WHILE PAYING 1/10 the amount of money.
So as I have said, if I am Dak, I would be more than willing to sign a 5 or 6 year deal...IF the Cowboys pay me the $26 million dollars of "back pay" that Wentz and Goff got over their first 4 years that I didn't.
Let Staffords, Jimmy Gs, Ryan Tannehills, Derek Carrs, Eli Mannings, Big Ben, Tom Bradys, and even Kirk Cousins of the world "give up" something. Let Tony Romo "give up" something.
Stop asking the 77th highest paid QB to "give up" something WHILE he produces at BASICALLY a NO. 1 over pick rate.
