Smith is 20% of the offensive line and should be evaluated as part of a unit. Like it or not, he's the best option for now and the future until they find (draft) someone better.
 
The center issues today have been the worst so far, based on the reports read about Arkin and Costa. It's laughably bad. Is there not one veteran center worth a look? Bad snaps all day long..:mad:
 
Tweets about the revolving door center position have been terrible today.

It's like this franchise completely forgot how they won 3 super bowls...dominant oline play.

Solution? In the short term, absolutely. Not too many choices at this point. Prior to the season, I would have drafted a replacement or signed a center in FA. A good one. But instead, what did they do? Basically signed two career backups. Or though at least one of them has some starting experience.

As far as Holland, you must have been sleeping the last few years when Holland was inserted into the starting lineup. The oline play was upgraded immediately. Until he got hurt. But if the problem is replacing the hapless Costa, which it certainly should be. Inserting Holland would no doubt improve things. Albeit it short term.

Hmmmm, so Garrett elevated Murray. When was that exactly? Reality would dictate that Murray was rotting on the bench as the 3rd RB at least 4 weeks into the season. Felix gets hurt, so what does Garrett do? He starts the pathetic Tashard Choice. I guess you call that elevating. LOL

He has actually no choice but to give Murray some carries and he goes nutz for 253 yards. And guess who starts the next game after Murray breaks the cowboys single game rushing record? ummm............that would be Tashard choice again. LOL Yah, Garrett really elevated him. It wasnt until another great week did Garrett finally give in due the fact that he would have been absolutely hung by the fan base if he hadnt.

Garrett has done some good things, but keeping Murray on the bench and almost single handidly killing our season last year by inserting two undrafted or 7th round rookies along the line was not one of them.

Uh, that is exaclty what you are doing. That was literally the post before your disclaimer. All you are doing here is attempting to justify why you feel you can second guess the coaches with any sort of authority.

He isnt second guessing anybody. The coaches are the ones desperately shuffling centers, demoting Costa to 3rd string and saying they are looking for help at center.

But you cling to "he's doing the best he can" to justify your belief that the coaches love him.
 
Why couldn't I second guess the coaches or executives on this team?

What have they ever won at their current positions?

What is sad is that right now in the camp Costa is the only one who can snap at all. So he is basically working with all three teams 1st, 2nd, 3rd

IT is more than a circus right now

Its a 3 ring circus with multiple side shows

But the center position for the Dallas Cowboys has been a pathetic joke for almost a year now.

With Nagy and Kowalski out until after the season opener, Bernadeau will get look at center

The Cowboys welcomed guard Mackenzy Bernadeau to practice for the first time since in training camp and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the team’s ravaged offensive line.
Bernadeau has been out since May because of hip surgery. He began training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
“It felt good to be with my teammates, get some plays down,” Bernadeau said. “They’re monitoring everything I do, so there are no setbacks. Right now, I’m focusing on playing guard … and getting healthy.”
Bernadeau, who played in Carolina the last four years, signed a four-year, $11 million contract to help solidify to the guard spot. But the Cowboys had also hoped to give him a try a center in training camp.
He did only individual drills in practices yesterday and will be initially worked in at guard but his move to center is inevitable because of the injuries and the need for a capable performer.
Bill Nagy (ankle) and Kevin Kowalski (ankle) were supposed to compete with Phil Nagy for the starting center role but they will start the season on the injured list and may not be available for six weeks.
David Arkin and Harland Gunn have filled in being Costa and have had trouble getting the snap to the quarterback.
Vice-president Stephen Jones shot down any talk of the Cowboys adding a center to the roster because he said Bernadeau will start taking snaps at the position.

“At some point, we’ll put the ball in Bernardeau’s hands. He’s done it before. It’s not totally foreign to him,” Jones said.
