Georgia CB Oliver will be selected in the supplemental draft...'boys mentioned

just looking at trends. If no one ever picked in the Supp Draft has made the Pro Bowl, then why bother with it?

I'm sure Rob Moore made a trip to the probowl once or twice (but not positive).

Jamal Williams comes to mind.

Henry has had injury problems last 2 season and Glenn showed some signs of slowing down at end of season. Newman turns 29 this year and Reeves & Jones are nothing more then backups. Brown probably shows enough to make this team but don't know enough about Ball. Nate Jones' job in real trouble. If Henry gets hurt again and/or Glenn's performance deteriorates, we could be in real trouble. I'd certainly be willing offer a 3rd rounder for Oliver and could go as high as 2nd rounder, but certainly no way I'd use either of our first rounders.

it isn't the age. it is the mileage. he'll be good for several more years

Pass on him. If we decide CB is essential then grab Antoine Cason from Arizona. Yeah, I know, I'm a homer. Watch this kid play next year when you get a chance. You'll know why.
Yea but didn't you recommend a kicker also? :laugh2:

Neither do I. Talk about reaching. Just because we have a extra 1st doesn't mean we use it on a 3rd round prospect.
I don't see us blowing one of our 1st round picks on him. But because we do have two we might be more inclined to spend a 2nd on him if he shows well in his workout AND if our coaches feel that we need to upgrade the talent at CB. I don't know much about the two guys that we drafted and haven't heard much about how they are showing in OTAs. A lot will depend on how Wade feels about our veteran backups and these young guys we already have.

Newman turns 29 this year.
One thing to keep in mind about Newman is that he was older when he came into the league so he has not had the wear and tear on his body that a lot of 29 year old players have had. I think he still has a good number of good years left in him...more than most 29 year olds.

I would put down a third round pick and hope we get lucky, It's hard for me to say we should gamble a second on him unless he does have a mind-blowing workout. From what I understand he is a upper 4.4 to lower 4.5 guy, so I'm not too sure about spending that high of a pick questioning his speed and smarts.

I agree. I'd like to see us adress the position sooner rather than later, but 1st's and 2nd's shouldn't be used in the supplemental draft IMO...as there is usually a substantial reason the kid is forced be apart of it in the first place. I'd offer a third and see what happens. I think someone will take him with a second, but you never know...

You are right about that; his age is still worrisome however... but not worrisome enough to not want me to sign him to a long-term deal.

Great cover corners who aren't part of a gimmicky defensive secondary like Lito Sheppard and Ike Taylor are Mega hard to come by. Players like Newmann, who are actually talented in covering and can stand on an island and take the best wideout the opposing team has to offer is very important.

I would give a third to get Oliver, if he is considered so good; maybe this has already been said by one of the other posters, but it is possible Ireland and Jerrah( mostly Ireland I hope) decided to go for Oliver instead of one of the regular draft CB's.

This isn''t the case. Oliver had intended to go back for his senior season. He found out shortly after this year's draft that he had become academically ineligible to play next year, and thusly opted for the supplemental rather than sitting around doing nothing for a year.

Looking at that list there are some guys that were very good there. BUT at least 3/4 of them never amounted to much. AND I notice that in the last 9 years Mike Wahle is the only player taken who really amounted to much.

I do see us spending a first day pick on a corner come next April.

I think we should consider the kid if he runs well. Both CB's are near 30 and we need to start adding younger players.

Henry will be done in a couple of years most likely, so with the extra pick in the draft next year, it is the perfect oppurtunity to address the position.
