In a locker room somewhere in Texas, Bette Midler's understudy is overwhelmed with gratitude.

It's a part of football. It's also why the strategy of "the final piece" or "filling a hole" with a specific free agent signing is deeply flawed.

Injuries have to be anticipated, they are going to happen, the frequency or position cannot be predicted. Fortnuately the Cowboys have learned that depth is not simply a warm body to decorate the bench during a game, there has to be enough talent to prevent a drastic decrease in performance. Behind McCoy are guys who would have been the starter in past seasons.

Years ago, the next man up would have been some 7th round pick in his 2nd season or some rookie free agent. Today, it's a 2nd round pick and two 3rd round picks with varying degrees of experience.

There have been many times in the NFL where a veteran player goes down and is replaced by a young guy who shocks the world. There is no better example than Tom Brady, but there are several other examples, some are even Cowboys.

When Rookie of the Year Calvin Hill went down in his 2nd season, he was replaced by an unknown Duane Thomas.

In 1973 an undrafted rookie WR made the team for his special teams play. When both the starter and his backup were injured, Otto Stowe and Mike Montgomery, this rookie was forced into the starting lineup. These days Drew Pearson is known as "original 88" and he's made some of Cowboys most memorable catches. Had it not been for those injuries, very likely jersey #88 would be, well, just another jersey number.

Make them wear braces.

McCoy had a chance to be a very popular Cowboy but that's not happening now. I wouldn't expect much from him next year.

Nope, you only have one of the best O lines, a very good RB, possibly the best trio of WR’s in the league, the hopeful reemergence of LVE, two potentially great pass rushers and a good DT to look forward to.

Oh the humanity!

Jerry and his 1995 Super Bowl win karma curse at work. I swear he sold his soul to win that Super Bowl without Jimmy. It's still going on... hahaha Jerry gives new meaning to "If it were raining X's he'd get hit in the head with a O".

Replace X and O with your favorite opposite anatomy part. LOL

I think we overreacting a bit......solid player for sure, but I'm pretty confident we can replace his expected production.

The video of how it happened has to be one of the dumbest things ive ever seen

Woods really wants to make the team, literally take out the competition...

This is going to be common around the NFL. Can't replicate padded contact. McCoy just wasn't expecting or ready for the punch

Normally, he's not going to even fall over from that, but sometimes things just give out unexpectedly. It doesn't look like anything McCoy hasn't done a million times other than having the tendon rupture.

I was excited about adding him this offseason. I know he's not the same player he was, but we've gone through so many average to below-average players at that position that I was looking forward to skilled, if declining, player.

Now, we're back to average (Crawford) while crossing our fingers that Hill or Gallimore can be above average (when we don't even know if they will be average).

Petelur tendons are a tough recovery. Jeez that video, idk why are they doing those weird drills, when does a DT need to backpedal or block. Plus they have those plastic structures you have to run under like a freaking obstacle course. Looks like a fluk injury for someone on a game show. Smh

Definitely looks like a fluke injury, conditioning instructors are not doing enough , properly stretched quads have a chance against these injuries.

This is why we have to draft well and leave the 32-33 year old defensive players alone.
