KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Jacksonville Jaguars safety Gerald Sensabaugh was arrested early Monday morning and charged with speeding and carrying a firearm without a permit.

Sensabaugh, 23, was pulled over at 12:06 a.m. after an officer spotted his 2006 BMW driving 86 mph in a 55 mph zone, police Sgt. David Moore said.

When asked if he had any weapons in the car, Sensabaugh told the officer he had a pistol, but did not have a permit to carry it. The officer found a loaded 9mm pistol in the console along with another fully loaded clip.

Sensabaugh was booked into Kingsport City Jail on the charges, both misdemeanors, and was released about 2:30 a.m. after posting a $750 bond.
Under Tennessee law, driving faster than 75 mph in a 55-mph zone can be prosecuted as misdemeanor reckless driving, although the charge is at the discretion of prosecutors.

Sensabaugh lives in Kingsport during the offseason. He played at East Tennessee State in nearby Johnson City before transferring to North Carolina.
He was drafted by the Jaguars in the fifth round in 2005 and went from special teams to starting strong safety. In his two seasons he has 56 solo tackles, 12 assists, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and blocked punt.
His agent, Kevin Connor of Atlanta, did not return a message seeking comment Monday night.
I've been googling too. That's actually a different incident I believe.

The 2nd story I posted seems to be another incident. I think.

Yeah, this time he was in his Bentley, not his Beamer... so maybe he learned his lesson about carrying unregistered firearms, a lesson that stood him in good stead this time around...

I don't want folks getting me wrong, I'm bothered by somebody who feels he needs to carry an AK-47 with him wherever he goes... I'm just observing that he doesn't seem to have broken any laws by doing so, or they would have charged him for it...

Did anyone notice he's from the same neck of the woods as Witten? Kingsport, TN is a stones throw from Elizabethton. I wonder if Jason would take him under his wing and educate him on not to make the same mistakes...

:welcome:

That's probably the incident that caused him to lose his license in the first place...

I wonder if Jerry will be providing him with a driver, the way he provided PacMan with a babysitter... :D

If you're replacing a guy who has a checkered past, you should attempt to replace him with another guy with a checkered past, that's what I always say.

Traditions have to start somewhere.

Yes, and i've also heard that continuity is very important for a football team.

Okay, but are these articles really knocks on his character. Perhaps the AK-47 is over-compensation, but driving a Bentley does invite a certain degree of negative attention from woodbe theives. It's not uncommon for people to view a Bentley as a TOP (target of opportunity) priority when enroute to doing something else of an illegal nature. Furthermore, aside from possession of an illegal firearm and speeding (something we have all been guilty of) his record is pretty much clean. If there were reports of aggravated assault or something that shows he uses the weapons for something other than feeling safe in his prized possession, I may make assumptions in the direction that he is just another Pacman. But this case seems to be slightly different.

On the other hand, I do wonder is that if that is the only reason the Jaguars let what looks to be a great young SS prospect walk.

The Cowboys took a step toward filling a hole in their secondary by agreeing to terms with safety Gerald Sensabaugh on a one-year deal Tuesday.
Sensabaugh, 25, started a career-high 13 games last season in Jacksonville and was credited with 82 tackles to go with four interceptions and four pass deflections. A fifth-round pick in 2005 by the Jaguars, Sensabaugh played in 50 games with 24 starts and had 168 tackles and six interceptions.
He has played mostly strong safety but started three games last season at free safety. Sensabaugh, 6-0, 204 pounds, played for secondary coach Dave Campo and special teams coach Joe DeCamillis in Jacksonville.
Having cut Roy Williams and with Keith Davis testing the free-agent market, the Cowboys had a major need at secondary. Ken Hamlin has started the last 32 games at free safety but there was little depth behind him. Patrick Watkins is coming off reconstructive shoulder surgery and Courtney Brown and Tra Battle have little experience. The Cowboys also signed Jerome Carter in January.
Davis has visited Kansas City but could still return to the Cowboys because he plays a vital special teams' role.

Surgery on both shoulders for a SS might be a red flag too.

I have a hard time thinking JJ is going to clean house of trouble in the locker room only to bring in someone without him and Stephen doing their homework on them. If SJ signs off on him then I think I'll allow it.

Nice -- I recall there was some interest on this board in drafting him.

I still want KD back though - I expect he's being allowed to shop for potential starting gigs as he did last year.

I searched for lists of the top 2009 free agents and looked at 5 of them. The only one he even appeared on had him listed as the 38th best DB. Is this guy really any good? Is he just being overlooked because of his off the field issues?
