Getting out of terrible QB contracts

It's disgraceful that we have these two guys running our team into the ground. Every other team sees problems as they happen and whether they can fix them or not, THEY TRY !! The 2 Bozos in Dallas can't be bothered to work hard at admitting and correcting THEIR mistakes. I don't like throwing this word around but I'm truly beginning to hate the Jones'. Hate them for buying and owning the team that I fell in love with in 1970
yes it is sad they own the team and play with it like a personal toy just for their own amusement.

About cousins and big contracts, SMART GM'S always have an out to get out of a contract that goes sour!!
Jones boys dont do that.

I thought cousins contract was all guaranteed ? evidently not?

For starters Cousins was a free agent. Dak was under contract when he signed. Two completely different situations. I don’t think it’s possible to re-sign someone then not take a cap hit a year after the extension was signed.

Ding ding ding.

The Cowboys have mishandled Dak's contract situation from his rookie deal on. Putting the franchise tag on him was beyond stupid. Look what that led too.
Yes.
Smart football management executives adopt the elementary approach that a good quarterback has more assets than liabilities to work with.
Jerruh and Stephen don't seem to get this concept

The economic theory that states "don't throw good money after bad" is called the "sunk cost fallacy"; it essentially means that when making a decision, you should not consider past investments (which are "sunk costs") that cannot be recovered, and instead focus on the potential future benefits of your current options, even if it means abandoning a project you've already invested in.

If only the idiot would put his ego aside for 2 seconds...
Great post.

I mean it’s a new team and a new system seems like the guy should’ve had a longer leash. I don’t entirely get the Falcons….they spent a top 10 pick on a tight end…then did it on a running back….then signed Cousins to a big deal when the draft was coming. They draft one of the older quarterbacks….just odd managing of the cap.
Very odd. Goofy Falcons have only won seven games this season. Clearly don’t know what they’re doing.

It was a ridiculously stupid contract that is going to set the Cowboys back years. Of course they will ride it out too, until Dak is 45 taking snaps behind center. Other teams move off their mistakes. You see Denver moving off Russ, Minn moving off Cousins (and now Atlanta will be), Green Bay moving off Rodgers, 49ers moving off Garoppolo, Texans moving off Watson, and the list goes on. Not in Dallas though. We commit to mediocrity.

They won't even draft QBs to try and groom somebody. The Jones' boys seem to think starting QBs are just easily found in the 4th round and higher or UDFA. It's not like it's an important position in football or anything.

At first I was perplexed with the QB thing, but after they explained the logic it made sense. As things developed, they aren’t now screwed.

I was fully against a TE at pick four but people around here were saying he was a freak, impossible to cover, matchup nightmare, etc… Maybe in college. He seems to be a bit above average in the NFL. If you have the fourth pick and it’s your own, you have much larger problems than TE.

A special RB top ten is fine when it’s a final piece type.

I’m concerned Jerry will draft Jeanty as he thinks this team is better than it is per usual. I don’t see how he resists.
If Jeanty can get near his average rush yards per game vs. Penn State he’ll be a top ten pick. Otherwise he’ll certainly be there when Jerry picks. Hopefully Jerry picks the best lineman available when it’s his turn.

After signing Kirk Cousins to a 4 year 180 million dollar deal just NINE MONTHS ago, Atlanta is changing direction and letting him walk…with a very reasonable cap hit. Anyone think Booger and Chuckles would ever admit fault and do this??? Knowing them, they’ve backed themselves into a cap hit corner from hell….just amazes me how smart some teams are to bite the bullet and correct things….meanwhile, we have the Clapping Carrot at HC for almost a decade. Next season will prove that Dim’s extension was the worst in Pro Sports history.
Only $90M was guaranteed for Cousins.

Big difference in dead cap between Atlanta and Dallas. If they release Dak after this year it's a 151m dead cap. Post June 1st and it's 89M and 62M. It makes no sense to release him. Especially when the Cowboys don't have an alternative sitting on the bench.
