Up until late in the season the mental toughness of the Giants was in question as well. They caught fire at the end of the year and that helped propel them into the SB. As I said I commend the Giants on their championship but I don't think the Giants are head and shoulders over the Cowboys not even with bringing Hall into the fold

They won 11 consecutive road games, including the playoffs where they won in Texas Stadium and Lambau. That goes beyond just getting hot a few weeks at the end of the year. They're very mentally tough.

It's not like they just caught on fire and played out of their heads. They played bad football in extended stretches of the playoff games. All of their games were struggles that were closely fought, and they came through in the clutch while the other team folded. Again, another sign that they were just mentally tougher than the field.

You guys need to watch him more before you defend him. There is a REASON why Atlanta wants him gone.
IF the rumors are true and the Giants are after him, do we easily dismiss Jerry Reese's (Giants GM) opinion after he put together a Super Bowl winner? IF the Giants and Reese really do want him and would give up a 1st, doesn't that say Hall is not crap as some have described him here?

I know what they did and I also know many question about their own mental toughness was in question earlier in the year. They did get on a hot streak heading into the playoffs and that did help propel them thought out the playoffs much the way Pitt did a couple of years ago but then what happened to the Pitt mental toughness a year later or where was that Giants mental toughness last year? Evidently mental toughness must come and go from year to year? I know it is a phase that is thrown out there allot but I think in the end they just started playing better ball late in the season

I hope this doesn't happen.

I am against anything that makes the Giants roster better.

You wouldn't have to worry about that according to tons of posters on these forums. Hall wouldn't make them better he'd some how make them worse.

Overrated Cornerbacks

DeAngelo Hall
This is the second consecutive season Hall makes this list. He receives this honor because he once again made the Pro Bowl, despite posting simply abysmal metrics.

His 9.2 YPA ranked 76th among cornerbacks. Hall's 47.1 success percentage was solid (31st in the league), but his 17.9 missed pass percentage was one of the highest in the league. That means a large percentage of Hall's success was due to luck.

His supporters would point out that many of the big plays he allowed were due in part to not getting good help from the Falcons' safeties. That might be the case, but Hall's overall YPA was still only .8 yards better than Jason Webster's figure. Furthermore, Woodson had just as little help from the Packers' mediocre safeties and still put up great metrics

He's overrated by a perennial Pro Bowl standard ... but he's still a dramatic upgrade over Sam Madison. That's all that really matters ... are the Giants a better team with or without him? And Hall + Webster + Aaron Ross would be very dangerous when you combine it with maybe the best pass rush in the NFL.

In the Cowboys case it seems to be remarkably consistent from year to year.

Well up until this season the same could be said for the Giants.

Putting aside the questions about whether or not he is overrated, I would question the Giants making this move. They already have a locker room full of strong personalities between Jacobs, Burress, Pierce, Strahan, Shockey, etc. For their run last year, they managed to jettison two of the "trouble makers" in Tiki Barber and Shockey... everyone was talking about how you could see the difference in the demeanor of the team.

Now they want to get a guy who is probably worse than all those guys? It's a questionable move before even considering that Hall might be overrated.

I remember that list saying Newman was overrated last year because he also had a high amount of "lucky passes" go incomplete.

So.... if you want to use it to justify Hall is overrated; fine. It needs to be used on Newman last year too..... when so many here complained Newman got screwed over from a Pro Bowl.

Even if Hall is overrated by Pro Bowl standards...he is a younger upgrade over Webster and Madison. Additionally, he is an athletic playmaker going to benefit from a good pass rush.

I'm not trying to be a smart alec. Are you related to Hall? If not, why are you taking other people's opinions about him so personally?

I would concede that he's better than what the Giants have opposite Aaron Ross.

And I think he would be an improvement for them from that standpoint.

But I also think he's vastly overrated and not worth what the Giants would be paying for him in terms of salary and 1st round draft pick.

I'm all for the move as it would end any talk of him coming to Dallas.

With that pass rush you can have a Corner who takes alot of gambles and gets away with it. Hall will be really good if the Giants actually go out and get him. You guys are kidding yourselves if you don't think he's going to make a big impact.

QBs have to get rid of the ball fast against the Giants, so if he jumps a route, more likely than not the QB probably will have thrown that ball.

I'd rather the Giants draft a CB with their 1st round pick.... as I don't think they'll get a better CB at 31 than Hall.

They'll have a nice young, athletic CB tandem.... and Hall's aggressiveness might be better utilized in NYs defense that has better talent and a good pass rush than has been in Atlanta....

It depends on who is there at 31. I'd rather they get Hall. More expensive.
