I guess salary cap doesn't matter for Jerry Jones during the Gailey and Campo years for the Parcells' homers? According to them, all should have been fine and dandy in Texas...

Cap hell is having to carry Brandon Lloyd on your roster because you can't afford to cut him.

For 2006 the Commanders had to release Walt Harris because they couldn't afford him because of their cap situation. The Skins pass defense was atrocious that year and Harris went to the Pro Bowl. Then in 2007 the Skins were outbid by the Bills for Derrick Dockery's services because of the Skins cap situation. The Skins could have used Dockery given the injuries to the O-Line.

Yep, no cap problems at all.

Unfortunately for the Skins, indeed Taylor's accelerate into next year's cap as though he had retired. There is no relief, from what had been reported earlier, for the death of a player. It's more or less treated as a career threatening injury and accelerated onto the cap. Though, I believe that Taylor was in the latter years of his rookie contract.

Yeah that's been discussed before. Personally, I think the NFL should make an exception for Taylor's death.

thank you, I needed that. And to think how impressed the whole fan base was the day they pulled off the trade.....:laugh2:

I believe they all got behind it and referred back to his big game vs Dallas.......what a bunch of suckers....and knowing how that sad sack Snyder thinks, thats prolly exactly why he gave him all that loot!

Wow, thats some serious cash for a man that catches 25 footballs in two years and ZERO TD's! :laugh2:

you have no idea how bad i want to go back into Fed ex field and confront all those losers that pretty much looked right past Seattle and got in my face and guaranteed a Skins victory in Dallas......it was so funny watching all those drunk morons claiming that Seattle was not going to be a challenge and that they "own" Dallas..........:bang2:35-14 later, and even their owner still believes it.......I tried to let each of them know, that they would not beat Seattle, but talking to them is like talking to a friggen rock.

:D What's funny is that Commander fans like Snyder and think Jerry is a Joke, but when I look at the Commanders, I think they built an old team under Norv, and they built an old team under Gibbs 2.0alpha. :D Under Snyder the Commanders will always be an old team.

Skins fans honestly seem to believe that Danny Boy has come up with a secret nobody else has figured out... LOL...

I just point out to them that there's a reason why nobody else is even trying to do things the way the Skins are doing them these days-- IT DOESN'T WORK...

I mean, Danny Boy has owned the Skins since 99, and in those 9 seasons, the Skins are 68-76, have never won an NFC East championship, have had 3 winning seasons in 9, none better than 10-6...

And after 9 years of this madness, the Skins are sitting on the oldest team in the NFL, and with the worst cap situation of any of the 32 teams going into the offseason... and oh yeah, they'll be breaking in their fifth new head coach in that time...

It doesn't work, friends... one wonders how long it will take for the Mad Midget to figure out it ain't working...

Skinfans: Our team keeps squandering first half leads.

everybody else: That's a sign of an old team running out of gas in the second half.

exactly, other owners and GM's know exactly how to work the cap the same way, but why when it dosnt fricking work!!!!!

Look at the Colts, all 22 starters have "never" played for another team.......now, not all teams can be the Colts, but thats outstanding and they are the returning SB champs and # 2 seed in the AFC.......

But your 100% right, and everyone has figured it out BUT skins fans....but thats fine by me, i hope they continue to be ******** and i hope Snyder continues to do the same thing year after year.

Every year, they overpay a bunch of mediocre free agents, have a mediocre season, then cut overpaid players to get back under the cap. Then the cycle begins again. And their delusional fans think they don't have any cap problems whatsoever. I guess they haven't noticed that they have the oldest team in the NFL, their last division title came in 1999, and they haven't posted back-to-back winning seasons since 1992 because they can't afford to keep players and create any roster continuity.

That sums it up right there.

That might as well be their mission statement.

Maybe they can put that on a t-shirt, too.

Adam-what's the true status of Cooley's contract? Some places report that he has an $11 million roster bonus due, while most claim that he signed for $14 million guaranteed, 7M in '07 & 7M in '08.

He got a $3 million bonus when he signed and has an $11 million roster bonus due in 2008. Washington has the right to prorate the bonus, which they obviously will.

Also what about Sean Taylor? Will he be treated as though he had retired early? I think releasing him would increase their cap number by about $2.3 million.

They already released him in November, right after he died (or perhaps he was automatically released, by rule). His accelerated bonuses are already counting $2,479,000 against their 2008 cap.

But it is working for Snyder. The fans, heck no, but Snyder is the most successful owner in the NFL from a profit standpoint.

He found a market and capitalized on it.

Snyder successfully played up his (alleged) fanhood while purchasing the team despite never having attended a game. He doesn't do interviews but he's played the media game perfectly. He waged a crusade against the Post and most Washington fans sided with him, created a psuedo-"waiting list" to create a false impression of demand, bought out the largest message board to quell dissent, always makes a splash right before season tickets orders go out...

He has the largest stadium in the NFL, wealthiest fanbase...they might be the most loyal in the NFL but they may have crossed the line from loyalty to stupidity. He's shearing them like sheep and they're lining up to have it done.

From a pure business standpoint, his tenure should be studied in the future. I don't think a person has ever better legally squeezed every last penny from a venture in the history of mankind.
