to me its an easy decision. showers has more talent than weeden and vaughan combined. i dont care how much more experience weeden and vaughan have over showers, we are doomed if romo goes down so ill go with the upside back up and that is showers.

I'm not a fan of any of the backup QB's we have. ....but I'd certainly take Weeden over Showers and Vaughan.

It looks like a keep only two QB's kind of year.

You don't 'develop' 30+ year old players. Weeden is a fill-in. We really need to start looking for the Romo successor now.

Showers has more upside than both of them put together. He did well tonight with the front line he had in front of him. The sad thing is he's gonna be cut and we're gonna go with Weezy and Dusty.

No way we keep Vaughn now. No way.

I do think we practice squad Showers. He shows more development potential and poise than any rookie QB since Romo. Give him a season to be the scout QB and have him learn NFL defenses for the next 365 days and lets see what we have with him in 2016.

Its nearly impossible to evaluate Showers from this game. He was throwing to guys who were just signed days ago, being protected by an OL filled with "paper or plastic?" guys against a defense that was holding nothing back from the playbook. I'm not sure what he actually is, but I would rather keep him over Weeden or Vaughn. He at least has upside whereas Weeden is what he is and it's not near good enough. At least Showers is a lottery ticket and if Romo goes down for more than a game, 2 at most the season is probably over no matter who the b/u is.

Bad

Passing CP/AT YDS TD INT
D. Vaughan 7/16 84 0 2
J. Showers 8/17 80 1 1
B. Weeden 2/5 7 0 0
--------------------------------------------
good

Passing CP/AT YDS TD INT
A. Tanney 7/9 105 1 0
Z. Mettenberger 7/9 91 1 0
M. Mariota 5/8 59 0 0

Tanney a guy we tossed away still playing, and looks good here, I liked Tanney , needed work but had potential.
He will have a hard time making the team here, so dallas could get him back.

I think Weeden showed his lack of durability in this game, and he just doesnt have it, he is just playing for the check
and likes the backup role.
Vaughn has not progressed and even looks worse and like he really doesnt like being out there.

Showers shows potential, wants to play , is good on ST, so I would rather keep him over vaughn.
I think they should let both vaughn and weeden go and keep showers and pick up someone like Tanney or webb from carolina
when they are cut.
churn the qb roster because what they have now is worthless.

Coaches love Weeden. He's staying.

Showers given time could be a poor mans Russel Wilson. Mobility, smarts, good arm. Just needs more time in the saddle. The only question is accuracy, but I would need to hear from the team on whether he is normally accurate when he isn't running for his life.

I think some of you are being way too harsh on Weeden. He made a nice pass to Escobar that should have netted a first on his first drive, and his protection broke down on the second drive. He looked pretty decent vs San Diego as well.

This. There's something about the guy that this coaching staff really likes. If healthy, he will be the only other qb on the opening day roster. Flowers will be a PS guy but could be the next Matt Moore if another team scoops him up.

I've been supporting the idea of retaining Vaughan all along so far but that notion has come to a screetching halt after seeing his performance last night in San Fran. His accuracy is virtually as non-existent as his poise. His ability to sense pressure coming also does him absolutely no favors. It's now time to bid him adieu and give Showers enough reps to improve some. At the very least, Showers looks to be of service on special teams. As raw as he is at QB at this early stage, he's been more productive than Vaughan and owns more upside as well.

The Cowboys have taken chances in several critical areas....... Not addressing backup QB, RB properly, & KR could be the difference between the Super Bowl and/or the Division. Its early, so no stress it now, see them play first..... I still believe in Randell's talent..... but they should have invested in these areas in the draft, free agency or trade. And I keep hearing "but they got romo, no one else is going to play".... But I clearly remember the role Steve Berline played in our 11-5 campaign, and Bernie Kosar during one of our championship runs... Weeden, McFadden, & Lucky need to right this quick....or be replaced...

and Showers is a practice squad player..
