Not all. If there was one backup I would trade for it would be Austin Davis. Plays similar to Romo and even wears #9 for the Rams. I would dangle a 3rd for him to see if the Rams bite.

Yeah, I like the spunk in that kid. He's a decent backup. But Mettenberger could be a starter one day.

Osweiller too IMO.

Maybe. Some of the really young guys are 3rd stringers for now, so you can't tell, but generally starters are starters from the get go. Osweiller has a pretty good guy to beat out for the starting job, so maybe he's going to be good.

Showers has more upside than both of them put together. He did well tonight with the front line he had in front of him. The sad thing is he's gonna be cut and we're gonna go with Weezy and Dusty.

As a fill in for a quarter or half, I can see a slash type player as an interesting option at QB. The game plan would be different from the defense. But if he had to start, whew, it could get ugly against some of the defense we play this year.

I've only watched the first half but after seeing it I think Vaughn was bad but not horrible. Vaughn is a guy that "is what he is" as Parcells would say, if you give him a ton of time in the pocket he can make throws, if you don't he is still going to look like a Div III guy still playing in Stanton, Texas. He had a bad game but some of that was partially on the WRs (like the one INT thrown to Whitehead).

The net effect of this game is that Vaughn will be on the PS instead of the active roster, which is probably a good thing in the long run.

Can you imagine Vaughan or Showers having to face Miami, New England, Buffalo, Seattle or NYJ?

At least Showers could run for a few yards. Just instruct him to throw deep balls to Dez, Handoff to DMC/Randle, or take off running.... I think thats a better attack then having Vaughn, stand in the pocket. Probably goes for Weeden too;

Showers big problem is that he's inaccurate as hell.
He is athletic and is not scared to turn it over. Very risky with his throws. Looks like a good PS guy. I think Vaughan and Weedon are about the same, with BW a little better because of experience. I'd like to see Showers get reps with some better players around him.

All backup quarterbacks suck. It's a dumb topic to debate.

I agree that all backup QB's suck, the problem is finding one that is less sucky and and might keep you in a game or two if called upon. I do not believe we have such a QB on our roster.

Erod said its dumb to debate this topic, then proceeded to debate the topic!
