Like another poster said, if Romo goes down for more than one or two games max, season is over

The only backup QBs that I've seen that could possibly, maybe, slim-chance-in-heck salvage a season for a team are Osweiler in Denver and Sanchez in Philly... every other team would likely be screwed.

As others have pointed out, Showers will probably not clear waivers. Too many people have said that he has that "something." In fact, I think Washington would be one of the teams to go after him, but I can see 3-5 teams really going after him: CAR, HOU, SEA, maybe IND or CHI.

Dallas kept Romo because they saw "something" in him. He's not protypical QB size. Before the 2006 season, before he'd even started a game, Sean Payton wanted Romo, but wasn't willing to give up a 2nd rounder for him (good on Jerry)

Not saying he's the next Romo, but of the 3 backup QBs, Showers has shown the most confidence and composure while out on the field. Even with defenders hanging on his legs, he kept eyes up looking for his receiver. He was getting blitzed often against SF and he still moved the ball.

Showers is NOT a running QB. Showers is a QB that can run and run well and run smart, but he's not a running QB. He's mobile but not a runner (like Romo)

To know Showers, look at how he has approached playing on special teams. He's plays it smart. He's not just out there flailing his arms, he's serious about it. He's a real blue-collar kind of guy.

I dunno about Dallas keeping 3 QBs b/c of depth needs elsewhere, but I think he's worth keeping. Let him be the holder....let him do what Romo did.

Bad

Passing CP/AT YDS TD INT
D. Vaughan 7/16 84 0 2
J. Showers 8/17 80 1 1
B. Weeden 2/5 7 0 0
--------------------------------------------
good

Passing CP/AT YDS TD INT
A. Tanney 7/9 105 1 0
Z. Mettenberger 7/9 91 1 0
M. Mariota 5/8 59 0 0

Tanney a guy we tossed away still playing, and looks good here, I liked Tanney , needed work but had potential.
He will have a hard time making the team here, so dallas could get him back.

I think Weeden showed his lack of durability in this game, and he just doesnt have it, he is just playing for the check
and likes the backup role.
Vaughn has not progressed and even looks worse and like he really doesnt like being out there.

Showers shows potential, wants to play , is good on ST, so I would rather keep him over vaughn.
I think they should let both vaughn and weeden go and keep showers and pick up someone like Tanney or webb from carolina
when they are cut.
churn the qb roster because what they have now is worthless.
Austin Davis appears to be on the way out for the Rams as well. Got only two passes in that game on the other side.

Coaches love Weeden. He's staying.

I know, they will keep weeden and vaughn over showers or any qb they look at.
Same for all the other positions.
I dont think street is that good, but no way they keep porter or jenkins over him.
Some they keep to ps but the good ones other teams will just grab them.

to me its an easy decision. showers has more talent than weeden and vaughan combined. i dont care how much more experience weeden and vaughan have over showers, we are doomed if romo goes down so ill go with the upside back up and that is showers.

:clap:Thank you, I have been saying this for over a week !!!!

Weeden just looks slow in his reads, everything is a second late. Vaughan looks like he has no touch and can't adjust while moving. Showers needs work but his general mobility and pocket awareness are harder to teach than the things he needs to work on. Weeden and Vaughan don't do well with a rush and both tend to lock onto one guy very early. Just keep Showers to see if he develops and play him on ST. Weeden doesn't have it and he's had more reps than most backups get in 2-3 years during the last year. He may understand the offense more now, but he has fundamental flaws that have not changed and likely never will.

We know what we have with Weeden. We need to give showers more playing time to see what we have in him. More than anything, it may prove time to stop playing around at the qb position and look in the draft for a successor.

YOu said it and said it well !!!

Showers has more upside than both of them put together. He did well tonight with the front line he had in front of him. The sad thing is he's gonna be cut and we're gonna go with Weezy and Dusty.

You are likely right
They could give up on Vaughn and go with another vet but most likely Vaughn is Weeden backup and showers goes to the ps
I like the way showers battles out there but I still think he clears waivers

Wow, you hit the nail on the head, I just hope your wrong and Dusty gets the boot right now out of town !!!! Showers has too much up side and needs to be part of the 53. :hammer:
