kickers arnt worth 3 million a yr...they dont make THAT much difference...

besides, if you have a good enough offense your kickers are used more for PAT's

that said, we need a solid, above average guy here to make the gimmee's...

David

Why is that? because they havent had THEIR payday yet?
Kicker made a difference for New England SB Victories - THREE to be exact
Kicker made a difference for Buffalo and their first SB loss(shoulda won)

also ask the Colts if it makes a difference....

etc... etc...

You should have done that last year when our "bargain" kickers were shanking away games. Flat out losing football games.
How do you know I didn't? I hate kickers. I hate it when they can't do their job.

No kicker deserves that kind of money. Period. I bold the word deserve so hopefully you can make a distinction in what I am talking about. I'll understand if you still can't. Sometimes synapses just don't fire.

Would adding Vinatieri make sense? Of course it would. I'm not stupid. I do know the difference between a Draw and a Delay. Doesn't mean I have to like it and I don't. If that gets your panties in a wad...oh well, what else is new?

Welched on any more bets lately?

It makes a differance to have a great kicker no doubt but you can get a great kicker without being stupid and overpaying for a position such as kicker.

I agree 2.5 to 3 mill is way to much to be paying a kicker. It is not like they kick the ball any better for an extra mill and other teams do not seem to be wanting to pay that much either which is why these guys are on the market.

Lets see if you think a kicker is worth when we get a lesser one and he "folds", "chokes", "Shanks" under pressure....

when you and me and EVERY Dallas fan crashes to the floor and screams out.... "we would have made that FG if we just would have sign Vinatieri....."

I myself DO NOT want to go through that....

damn shame that kicker allowed a team to convert on 3rd and 27, 4th and 15...AND gave up two long tds on the same type play in less than 4 minutes...and I bet it was the kickers fault too when we had the ball right at the 50 with plenty of time to get into GW GS position, but we couldnt even muster a first down

damn shame that kicker allowed a team missing top 3 WR's drive 80+ yds in less than 2mins to tie a game we should have won, and I bet it was the kickers fault that Bledsoe threw that horrible pick to seal the loss wasnt it?

that kicker blow those play calls at the end of the loss to the lowly Raiders?

damn shame that kicker allowed NYG to score a td in 2 plays to send a game to OT

damn shame that kicker laid down in OT of Denver game and let a scrub RB run for 50+ yds for a TD

damn shame that kicker let all those QB's stand back there long enough to read a King James Bible when games were on the line

probably the kickers fault we got mauled by Washington in December too

yep...that kicker...really did us in last yr

If those kickers were worth 2.5 to 3 mill their own teams would be holding on to them the fact is these teams have no intention of paying that kind of money for a kicker and no one in their right mind would be paying that kind of cash for a place kicker.

You, me and JJ & BP will feel even more stupid when it costs us in the tournament....

again....get a good enough offense and kick PAT's instead of having to settle for fg's

and yeah ask the Colts....they have a GREAT kicker and still lost a game because of a missed kick...proves my point even more

I'm not saying don't go out and get a kicker I'm saying be smart and not overpay for a damn kicker you can't seem to figure that out. Just because I need a kicker does not mean I have to go out and overpay for that position. Geez guy use some damn common sense for a change!!!

Here... be smart and read this....

"In Dallas, the Cowboys have never spent $1 million in a season on a kicker, let alone $3 million. But owner Jerry Jones is on record saying that the team will sign a veteran kicker after missed field goals cost the Cowboys a playoff berth in 2005. And there’s no underestimating the pull of head coach Bill Parcells, who gave Vinatieri his start as an undrafted free agent in New England a decade ago."

I read that and no where did Jerry say we would go out and overpay for a kicker, he talks of getting a vet kicker I agree but you can do that without overpaying.

I'm not sure other than Vinatieri and Edinger who is available? Who are you advocating at this point the Cowboys take a look at? I must admit I would prefer AV, but that $3 mil per year is not a price I would like to pay. Is it time to look into the draft or is there anyone still left in free agency that is still worth something that can kick the pat's and fg's as well as consistantly kick off inside the 5?

"Change" is hard for some people....

IF times are changing and kickers are becoming more and more important in a time where coaches are coachin games conservative, not to lose... etc.... then the value of the kicker INDEED has gone up....

based on the "I can't seem to figure that out" tells me that

some people just cant accept "change".....

times are changing... kickers are more important now more than ever...

Lets stop with Cliche's -

1) Salary Cap went up from $85M to $102M.
2) Paying a critical kicking need is sound (effects 4-5 games) $3M is nothing
3) You don't pay FS
4) You don't pay for DT depth - Fergi was paid

Lets face it - we were beat out of the gate by NFL. We can lament and explain it away. Potential targets to spend $20M on are dwindling. If our plan was to save it because rest of NFL has gone mad, lets just say that JJ and man up like Indi did. We are acting like a small market team here.

I agree with everything you stated Nors. This weekend reminded me of the 2004 offseason. We had just gone 10-6 and made no moves because JJ and Coach Parcells believed their own hype while the rest of the league and division made moves. I hope that we make some key additions soon as well as have a sound draft because when I look no further than the team in my backyard getting Lloyd (24yrs old) and Randle-El (26yrs old) to go with Portis (20 something), Moss (20 something), and Cooley (20 something) I am starting to get anxious.

You talk till your blue in the face but you don't spend 3 mill for a fricken Kicker if I spend money like that the guy better do more than kick a damn ball that is more in line what you pay every down position players not a kicker. Dallas can go out and get a quality kicker and not spend that kind of money to do so.

It's not? so the extra money makes his kicks longer and more consistant? get out of here with that. You may want to hand over 3 mill but I think that is down right stupid.

Vinatieri would top my list, of course. I just don't like the price. That's just plain stupid.

My 2nd option would be Vanderjagt I guess.

3rd would be the college ranks or CFL.

I wouldn't give Vinatieri or any kicker 2 million per year unless he could regulalrly hit from 60+ yards out and kicked every kickoff out of the back of the endzone. That human being doesn't exist.
