Go get a Difference Maker on D

Not sure who would be available? We really need a dynamic LBer— but who would even be out there to trade for? Most teams are still trying to win and likely aren’t interested in parting with a key defender.

Not saying it isn’t possible— but unlikely.

Besides, I really want them to keep those first rounders.
We have a terrible track record of drafting defensive players honestly. I mean we hit here and there but I am not expecting us to make hay with those 4 1st's honestly. I would rather trade 2 of them for known quantities!

This is definitely an interesting topic. I’m leaning toward keeping those first-round picks, but it’s hard not to be tempted by the idea of adding a difference-maker.......especially with how explosive this offense has looked.

The real question is: who’s out there? What team is actually willing to part with a quality player, and at what price? That’s the hurdle the Cowboys are facing right now.

A real GM would absolutely go out and get the best MLB he could find and grab a nose tackle. You can absolutely play the best guys and work the lesser experienced guys in so they get reps while being in position to succeed. They did ok vs a weaponless commanders offense, lets not throw a party for them yet.

Jalen Phillips or Bradley Chubb could be had for a 4th or 5th. Chubb comes with a $20M cap hit in each of 26 & 27, but under contract. Phillips is a FA at the end of the year.

Wonder what the D would look like with Sam Williams on the bench and one of the above guys of the field.

one player is not going to make that much difference on D

we need:
two much better DL
at LEAST two better LBs and that it is IF OVershown comes back whole
we need at least ONE much better CB
and we need two much better Safeties

this is what we need for a D to be good enough to win it all along with two new OTs or at least a lot better play there for the O
you don't need that much to contend this year to get the defense ranked 15-20. one pass rusher DE, one top LB and a safety or CB and you are good enough.

No he wouldn't a smart GM would wait till you're better than 3 3 and one with a bad defense that's more than one player away before you make that move they got another week or two before the trade deadline to see if this team is worth going out and making a damn move and you know it I know it stop being emotional this team's not good enough to go waste some kind of high draft capital now if you're talking about using a 5th rounder or going out at the free agency and going bringing in a guy like Kendricks something like that yeah you can make a move like that I believe the safety I believe his name might be Simmons or I don't know his name but he's out there they're still out there Make moves like that yes but using high draft capital absolutely not that would be a dumb Jim that would be a fan running fantasy football and our defense is not good enough to add one player and everything is all fixed we have players coming back.

Keep saying this no you would be dumb with this particular team is a 500 team their defense is not fixed it is not one player away from being fixed...

But talk to me after the Denver game if they actually play Denver like we played Washington we might want to talk about that but I'm not having a conversation until we know for sure and that usually is a good spot at the bye week I believe that's right before the trade deadline then you can have a conversation but right now it is not worth it no it isn't.

I need more wins like next weekend before trying to give away draft picks, because win one lose one will not cut it.

If you trade the picks for a guy like Hendriksen— you are right back where you were with Parsons in terms of paying a DE around 40 mil per

Teams may be willing to part with a guy in the last of his deal like that— but drafting guys give you several years of control and helps keep your cap in order

I don’t think we are 1-2 guys away regardless, so those first rounders can be used to move up the board if a guy we like starts to fall a bit— or we stand pat and take a few shots to improve the quality of the roster through volume

Either way— we have to translate those 2 picks into more value than we would have had if we kept Micah and paid him.

The only one I would give a 1st(Packers) for is Crosby and I would want at least a 4th back with him.

The problem is the cap hit that comes with most of them. I would like to resign Pickens.

Well first of all way too soon you can't waste a draft pick if you're not even gonna make the playoffs if they beat the Panthers and won today we're on a little streak maybe before the trade deadline Jerry would have thought about it but right now they need to go out beat the Broncos and do it by stacking a good win on it not looking bad and barely winning or losing that game we need to show it'd be worth going after a player..

Those like six other threads about this we've already been discussing this for weeks you cannot waste valuable draft picks that are more valuable during the draft for trade value or for picking where they are You need to make sure your team is worth one player away type value and I don't think we are one player away on defense..

I mean who is this person you're talking about that literally you know for a fact that 100 percent guaranteed lead pipe lock will change this defense?

I know this when we get diggs, revel, and Overshown back and playing actual Man D on consistent bais If Matt wants to stick to getting some pressure and helping his defense out we already have help in house jerry was right when he said that i'm not agreeing with Jerry about everything but you can't go out and give it this guy you're talking about unless you know you're going to the playoffs like adding him will put you over the top and right now we're sitting at 500 just above if you count the tie and that's not good enough to go out and waste a draft pick on another player...

There's a lot of people's opinions not just mine go read around look around you'll find out we've been discussing this already for weeks..
and all those opinions are that, opinions. There is NO sure things in sports. But this offense is clearly big time and ready to go to day.

The original poster is right. We need a solid defense right now, not the 85 Bears.

He's not right because going out and spending too much draft capital on not a sure thing would be a waste for next year so we fall out not even get a wild card and get someone on defense that didn't work out and now you used up something you could have got in the draft...

I don't want to hear the nonsense there is no sure thing bringing over some player that is to be named is going to fix his defense we have our other players coming back if we just play somewhere like the Jets and somewhere like yesterday Keep making some changes yes go out and get Kendricks Gilmore and Simmons the whole free agents if you want to see if you can fix this you do it that way If you spend too high a draft capital if it don't workout you're costing the team next year now because you don't know how this team's gonna end up..

That's my point that's most people point look if you want to go out and make a trade for a 5th round pick like we did with in the past with Gilmore and it worked out pretty good for a rental just to get you through the rest of the year that's fine there's a guy out there that they're trying to unload for a 5th rounder then go for it but if you're talking about one of our 1st 2nd or 3rd round picks do you want to trade one of those no hell no no times 5...

This team is a 500 team not even really that because I don't know where you would put the ties in a half game to your favor 1/2 game to your disfavor you literally need to show that this one edition would change everything and I'm telling you I don't think Parsons on this team right now would be fixing this defense This is up to the DC and the players we have now and like I said they want to poach a free agent or somebody's practice squad that's fine but going out and wasting draft capital on not a short thing like you said would be hurting next year..

He was called Micah Parsons.

Sorry.
Don't be sorry.

I got to watch some of the Packers game. Micah has a great game including 3 sacks, and 10 pressures. He had one sack taken away from a hip drop penalty. The Cardinals tried to block him with TEs and OTs one one one and he had a field day. He makes a big difference.

They drafted Parsons and he is going to net them around 5 players and gives them the money to sign Pickens.
