I think a big part of the problem is that too many people refuse to step back and realize that they made a decision in the heat of the moment and jumped to conclusions, rather than think rationally.Yeah, what people are seeing are just bad calls. Could a ref, in OT, sway the outcome? Sure he could. But how the hell would he know it's going into OT? He couldn't put money on it based on that.
That said, there are some plays that make me raise my eyebrow. But they are extremely few. Remember back in 2018 when we beat the 10-1 Saints 13-10? Late in the game they called Gregory for neutral zone violation on a play Brees fumbled. I called that ref out as my coping mechanism. It was a terrible call to start. And he waited until Brees was in trouble to throw the flag. But after I cooled off I just realize these refs are just bad.
I'm often like you, in that my first, emotional reaction is to think someone's cheating. Once I step away from it and look through unbiased eyes, I can make a more rational observation.
