Grade Lance's performance

D-

Which stands for "Dak minus"

Which means he played just slightly worse than Dak would play.

Which is not good. But also very depressing considering the D is locked in for the next 5 to 7 years

That missed throw to Dowdle was just horrible. A good high school QB makes that throw. It just emphasized what a lack of natural throwing ability he has... almost like a girl throwing....just completely unnatural.

But he's only somewhat worse than D

I give Lance a C+ / B-. He hit some throws on target, but missed seeing open receivers. The 40+ yarder to Tolbert was both on one play. Tolbert ran a deep in to the middle of the field and was wide open, but Lance never saw him. Tolbert smartly peeled back outside as the defense converged. Lance suddenly sees him and lasers a pass to him in stride.

I don’t ding him too much for the miss to Rico. Staubach talked about how he missed Jackie Smith because he was so wide open and took too much off the ball.

The potential is there with Lance. The tools far exceeds Rush’s. I’d be fine going into next year with Lance as #2. The issue is whether he wants to stay here to understudy for at least 2 more years at a backup salary. I suspect there will be other offers giving him more $ and opportunity.
Lol Staubach's pass to Smith was catchable and slightly underthrown.
The pass to Rico was absolutely terrible, bounced three feet in front of him and not catchable.

It's a stupid question. Why was Lance more accurate than Daniels? You say he sucks. Does Daniels suck too?
For one.single game..wow..wow..WOW.

So let's take that single game and extrapolate it to 17 games and into the post season and.lets make.an assumption that he will be better year over year and viola he is a HOFer

Come on dude

One just took his team to playoffs in his first year.
The other is a 4th year player that was a.3rd stringer

Seriously. Take your head out of his *** for a.minute.and breath.

That's the thing - some folks act like he's a raw rookie who's never stepped on the field, who "hasn't had a chance to show what he can do".

He's had 5 starts, has played in 12 games and has had 3 years to show what he can do in those 5 starts as well as pre-season games and practices.

I'd agree that's not a lot of game experience but for SF, with a proven record of talent evaluation at quarterback releasing Lance for a last pick in the draft player.

Now if Lance would sign a 2-year contract for the veteran minimum, fine, keep him, at least he's young and can run, and has played in the league. But otherwise keeping him because he might finally "blossom" is far too big a risk....
What was Aikman's record in his first 12 games?

The guy hasn't had much of a chance to put together any kind of body of work. He's had injuries. He hasn't been getting any meaningful reps in practice and he's never played with the starters. All I'm saying is give him a real chance before declaring he can't do it. How exactly is keeping him on the team in a backup capacity too big a risk?

One thing I started thinking about today: we believe 1st round quarterbacks ahould be ready to play from day 1 and mid rounders should carry a clipbard and learn for a few years. Is that really true? Because it seems like the mid round success are ready to start from the beginning whil late career success stories are mainly about first round picks on their second or third team.. Lots of recent examples, espe ially this year.

Actually, Staubach's pass was behind Smith. Absolutely Lance's pass was nowhere near as close as Staubach's, but the reasons were the same. Both Smith and Rico were so wide open both QBs took too much off the throw instead of just making a normal throw.
