I've seen worse. But I've also seen guys drafted in the 6th and 7th round do better. He's not a rookie anymore and that's the biggest knock. If this is all he learned from his time sitting get rid of him.
That's the thing - some folks act like he's a raw rookie who's never stepped on the field, who "hasn't had a chance to show what he can do".

He's had 5 starts, has played in 12 games and has had 3 years to show what he can do in those 5 starts as well as pre-season games and practices.

I'd agree that's not a lot of game experience but for SF, with a proven record of talent evaluation at quarterback releasing Lance for a last pick in the draft player.

Now if Lance would sign a 2-year contract for the veteran minimum, fine, keep him, at least he's young and can run, and has played in the league. But otherwise keeping him because he might finally "blossom" is far too big a risk....

I give Lance a C+ / B-. He hit some throws on target, but missed seeing open receivers. The 40+ yarder to Tolbert was both on one play. Tolbert ran a deep in to the middle of the field and was wide open, but Lance never saw him. Tolbert smartly peeled back outside as the defense converged. Lance suddenly sees him and lasers a pass to him in stride.

I don’t ding him too much for the miss to Rico. Staubach talked about how he missed Jackie Smith because he was so wide open and took too much off the ball.

The potential is there with Lance. The tools far exceeds Rush’s. I’d be fine going into next year with Lance as #2. The issue is whether he wants to stay here to understudy for at least 2 more years at a backup salary. I suspect there will be other offers giving him more $ and opportunity.

I don’t think he watched the game-He had multiple throws to the middle of the field . He was very careful in the red zone though-too careful to not throw picks. I am not saying he is the answer but he would have been a better decision than paying Dak 250 million
he is not even on the same continent as Dak....seriously.....

but then again if Lance starts, we probably end up with 1st over all pick and if that's Manning, then heck yes

Anybody can see he is better than Rush. There is a decent chance that Lance can be better than any qb in the upcoming draft.
he can throw harder than rush (who doesn't). he can run a little... but he doesn't see the field. he is not accurate and he panics too easily

Manning isn’t coming out next year or the year after. He will most likely start for three seasons at Texas. The Manning watch starts in 2028(possibly 2027) so it doesn’t matter what Dallas does next season record-wise.

I thought he did ok considering he’s literally not played in what, 3 years??
He certainly missed a few passes, including a simple TD, but the only way to truly judge him is by letting him play 3 or 4 games in a row so he can find some rhythm.
And it really is ridiculous that he wasn’t allowed to start those last 4 games when it was obvious we weren’t making the playoffs.
