In Gregory's case he couldn't be in contact with the team or at the affiliates so
how the team has kept up with his behavior will be important.
If somehow they are confident he's been clean and had been conditioning then
there is certainly someone on the team less skilled then Gregory.

This is the crazy part about the NFL rules. Removing an addict from his support system is definitely the best way to help get him on track.

In just a little over month from now, he's eligible to apply for reinstatement. I hate to say this but with Randy, being eligible and clean are two different things. My approach is ANYTHING we can get from him THIS YEAR is gravy. Hard to imagine his conditioning anywhere close to NFL playing standards.

Randy Gregory's season is over after two games. The NFL announced Thursday the Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman is suspended without pay for "at least one year" for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Nick Eatman of the Cowboys' official website passed along the news, noting Gregory is ineligible for the team's playoff run. The team announced guard La'el Collins would take Gregory's spot on the roster.

Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network provided the official statement:

Gregory can apply for reinstatement on Nov. 6, 2017, 60 days prior to the one-year anniversary of his suspension, per Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

My approach would be cut this loser. He brings nothing to your football team but a distraction. He needs to be as far away from this team as possible.

Exactly. I suspect the policies and rules regarding contact with the team while suspended was primarily directed at PED and behavioral issues, not necessarily addiction. The support system is vitally important in the treatment of substance abuse.

Loser? Ouch, Howey.
What do you call someone with a tremendous amount of talent that can't get out of their own way? I think loser is too nice. I can think of several other words that probably more adequately describe what Randy is.

A player is only banned from the facility and team once they reach the banishment part of the Drug Policy

RGregory was allowed to go to meetings and workouts(not practice) through his first failure, his 2 game fine, his 4 game fine, his 2 game suspension, his 4 game suspension and his 10 game suspension

That support didn't seem to help him very much

I would hope he has and is seeking professional help during all this time. Would hate to think he is doing nothing about it

He already went to intensive rehab a couple times last year

Rehab for addiction is not a 1 time thing, Alcoholics do not just going to rehab and all is good, it is a life long battle. For Gregory I see this as a real addiction, anytime any substance can control you then you got real problems and will not go away without professional help and support.

RGregory doesn't have a problem with weed....... he has a problem with the NFL rules

He has obviously chosen marijuana as part of his daily maintenance routine

I have a problem with the NFL rules, too!

A lot of folks do. A lot of players do. The people playing the game.

This will be changed, eventually, but by then RG's career window will have long since passed.

Tragedy. Over a plant.
