Opiates are for pain, my brother, Herd.

Antidepressants (MMOIs, SSRIs, etc) and anti-anxietals (benzo's) are for depression/stress.

Weed is also effective for certain folks with stress (and to a lesser extent, depression), as well as pain management.

Whatever to me, NFL players are more harshly treated on this than any other major sport. Don't even have to talk about the salary thing, from a player prospective, they are getting screwed.

NHL doesn't even test you at all if your on a Canadian team (actually if your a hockey player at all, only street drugs). MLB, only if its 'reasonable cause', whatever. NBA just looks away and even if they do its 5 games in an 82 game season after several warnings, they look away.

NFL policy just takes it too far. The percentage of games they take away is extreme. I don't smoke anything, never have, but this issue is just Goodnell and Mora dumb. Really dumb.

I agree to an extent. I believe they can/should test during games, because if you are impaired while playing there could be serious repercussions and then the NFL is liable for the injuries. Businesses should have the ability to protect themselves from liability.

Yes, but if one is doing it, they are crazy. If two are doing it, well I might pay attention a lil.

If all other 3 major sports here are doing it, might wanna look in the mirror...just saying.

Should've tested Rodman to see if he was drunk at halftime, he would've been positive.

You need 4 failed tests before you miss 2 games

The NFL drug policy is a joke......one test a year and you are in the clear

Has he even stayed in shape? He was a weakling when he was on the field I can't imagine after a long lay off.

The thing about THC is it affects everyone differently. It actually made my depression 10X worse, to where i was damn near suicidal.

Agree we need to free Randy, and don't want to compare pee streams, but check the latest news.

Opioids are beginning to be routinely prescribed for depression and mood disorders. I'm part of a group helping analyze the results of a study looking into the use of opioids for a variety of mood disorders. My area of input is mostly related to my experience as an endurance athlete. The body produces endorphines during extended activity, which is one natural brain opioid which absolutely affects moods in a positive way.

We're not exactly sure why or how, but there are many other opioids produced in the brain which have similar effects. The key in a healthy individual is that the body produces these substances in a way which allows the body's various opioid receptors to regulate mood and anxiety.

Those with depression and/or severe disorders seem to have problems with either overly reactive or non-reactive receptors. Since opioids in general tend to enhance or suppress one or more of these types of these receptors, it's becoming clear why opioids work to help with mood and anxiety, but since each individual is unique there is no one "cocktail" which works universally. And of course the addictive nature of any opioid makes using them a risky proposition.

Considering how many drug test you must fail before you are giving a 4 game suspension I don't feel sorry for the players on this.

If he is in a good place he should apply to be reinstated...what can it hurt.

Nothing to lose, cowboys have young players on the dline and if he ever works out fine...if not oh well.

Was that ever confirmed? I guess the NFL won't say anything since he's still serving his 1 year ban. (?)

Was wondering the same thing. Can anyone on either side comment or is that verboten so that no confirmation doesn't mean anything?

Whoever was giving you opiates for depression and anxiety should be reported to their medical board.

The medication Tramadol has similarities to anti-depressants.

Tramadol is an opiod that has been found to possess the following actions:7
Serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SRI) and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI); hence, an SNRI. Similar to the antidepressant Effexor.

I think it would have been reported if he failed another test even while he is out.

Medically there should be legal drugs to deal with his anxiety or depression. Nobody has to use weed for those issues due to all the legal alternatives.

He is super talented. He is a true speed rushing RDE. The years he was in training camp, he dominated everyone except Tyron. In college he dominated current Giants LT Flowers both as a pass rusher and run defender, he he did it way more than any Cowboys players have done against Flowers in the NFL.

The Cowboys can keep him indefinitey. He does not get paid or accrue time towards free agency while suspended.
