Part of me agrees with you, however, the other part of me believes if I was investing millions of dollars in some one, I might want them to stay free of drugs. The are paying these guys to be in top physical and mental shape, not sure weed is real conducive to that.

There are a ton of very successful men you know, or have known, that smoke.

For many, it's the same thing as drinking a beer or a Scotch.

what if the rule is stupid?

It's been stupid that it is illegal in the country for as long as it has been too, but that doesn't stop the process of changing it from moving at a snails pace. It sounds like Gregory uses it as medicine. Unfortunately the NFL doesn't care about it's players.

The league isn't paying them anything.

I'd rather them not let him play at all this year, almost like they did it on purpose.

I believe he should be around next year, and by that time we would have to make a decision we would have to decide whether to put him directly on the playoff roster.

NFL really loves the Cowboys.

Some of the reactions in this thread are absolutely hilarious.

Gregory was lost before he became a Cowboy. Failed three tests while at Nebraska. Failed a test at the combine. Failed three additional tests his rookie season. Missed two more this year.

He made his bed, he now has to sleep in it. Rules are rules. It's not like no one could have seen this coming. The league isn't to blame for this - Randy Gregory is.

If anything, it's good that the Cowboys found out now before Gregory was really to be counted on in a big spot. Now they have an opportunity to develop a game plan knowing he won't be available. I have said it multiple times - they need to approach the offseason as if both he and DeMarcus Lawrence are not on the roster when it comes to assessing the DE position.

NBA television ratings are putrid. Same for baseball for national games. A playoff game in baseball gets lower ratings than preseason NFL games.

You now see the ratings dropped 8 percent this year for the NFL. Off the field stuff is chasing people away. The thuggery, the women abuse, the PEDs, the drugs, the illicit behavior. Stuff just like this. The league is better served to tighten its rules, not loosen them.

Ratinh dropped due to poor product and over saturation. The league may as well be Alcatraz compared to the days of LT being coked out of his mind

I don't think the off the field antics by players is chasing viewers away. Drugs and off the field transgressions were quite prevalent in the 80's, 90's and the 00's when ratings were at their peak. Aaron Hernandez is a multi time murderer and that hasn't stopped Patriots fans from selling out Gillette Stadium and tuning in to see them play.

And Gregory is likely drawing sympathy from fans due to the turn in public opinion on the legalization of marijuana.

There are more mitigating factors in the down-tick in the NFL ratings. The internet has ways to televise games that can't be accounted for in the ratings, the entertainment of the game, the stripping away of the violence in the game, the knowledge of concussions, etc...have all played major factors in the decline in the popularity of the game.

Well, we know what our biggest offseason need is. Must sign/draft a DE.

I feel like these days if anything this is negative PR for the NFL.

I don't know his saga intimately. It got too complicated. Can someone explain in layman's terms, how he got suspended 4 games....then 10....now an entire year?

Then why the heck did they bother activating the guy and cutting someone to do it?

They played him to see what he had before his year long suspension. He has motor and speed. No technique. How the **** is this a surprise? He's below average because he has barely had a chance to improve since he was drafted due to suspension.

the way i read the ruling is he is suspended for at least another year...he would have to re-apply to get re-instated....its not a given he can be back in one year.
