He is not getting paid.

Addicts do recover, but it usually takes more than 1 try.

Many players are irritated about the rule against weed and the NFLPA could make it an issue.

Weed is not banned in the NHL. Many people think the NFL will either quit testing for it or loosen the rules at some point.

He's had numerous tries, he's been suspended three times and failed a test while serving his last suspension, I hope he gets some help, but it's shouldn't be the Cowboys problem anymore, they've tied....If you can't stop smoking weed to make millions playing Football, you have a problem, and maybe Football isn't for you!

Excuse me? I'm a Software Engineer. At my level, they do not test. Do you think they test the CEO of Apple?

The CEO of Apple has a very different contract than the data-entry clerk in accounting. The CEO went through 50 interviews and background checks to get his job (unless he started the company). The clerk got hired in a day.

If he was really in rehab and getting regularly tested then I think he needs to fight it in court. Those test should be sufficient for the NFL

The league determines the protocol. That CBA was negotiate by a blind monkey on the player's side. Every time a new CBA comes out it's shocking how crappy the representation is for the players. But he knew the rules, he broke them, and he got the punishment.

So during this 1 year ban can he be tested again or can he smoke all the pot he wants?

You can't have an addiction without at some point doing drugs. Spare me the addiction is a diesease. Addiction is about as much a diesease as stubbing your toe on the corner of the coffee table.
Another uneducated person on this board. Amazing. If it was as much of a disease as stubbing your toe, the amount of people in treatment centers wouldnt be as high as it is. In your country or mine. Id love to see you watch a person detox from heroin and tell me its not a disease.

It's a shame Gregory did this to himself. Whether it's stupid or not, NFL has rules that were collectively bargained and Gregory broke them, multiple times. This is no conspiracy against Dallas. This is Dallas gambling and losing. It happens.

Best of luck to Gregory and hopefully he can find his way back. Until then, out of sight out of mind. Perhaps he does actually get better and can contribute for next year's playoffs.

So, wait until you're in demand and THEN start doing drugs.

Got it.

But he was then released and is out of the league.

Only because the King County Sheriff released information about he case publicly and the Giants and NFL had egg on their faces again.

If they never release that info, Brown is likely still playing.

So he's suspended until next years playoffs or how does this work? Just a shame.

He has a indefinite suspension, and he's eligible to try to get reinstated in one year. As long as he wears the star there is pretty close to zero percent chance they grant him reinstatement, so I'd say his days as a Cowboy are over.

Got it.

If you're in that kind of demand, you're either clean, or you've really shown the ability to produce while on drugs.

These kind of things almost always take somebody down before they ever get that far. Even the legal stuff like booze or women, especially in a social media world.

Empathy comes from his family, not his employer.....if you had the same problems as Gregory at your job, they'd move on from you too...the cowboys gave him enough chances..he's not bi-polar, he just likes Weed..
Empathy comes from everyone sir. Everyone needs it. Are you one that can see someone who lives in poverty and blame them 100% for their circumstance? His employer does empathize. The Cowboys have stood by him and continue to do so.

No chance in the playoffs next year. In a year he can apply for reinstatement. Do you think there is any chance that would get granted as a Cowboy player leading into the playoffs?

That's your choice. Good luck ever finding a really good job.

I hope you young-uns pay close attention to this. I have fired dozens of people in my career over substance issues. Their work suffered greatly from it, and it was no surprise when they didn't pass their test. I'm not running a daycare, and I need your full ability at work. Or you're gone. Capiche? Please get out of your own way in life.
Yay you get to fire people Erod. Congrats!

If he is not getting paid then it really does not matter.

His probability of someday contributing is similar and possibly higher (pardon the pun) than the probability that some practice squad players will ever amount to anything.

Cut this waste of space

Seriously what a joke this is, and Goodell, Mara and the NFL should have collusion charges brought against them. Bell can fail how many tests and only end up with 4 game suspensions? Hell Brady cheats and it takes forever to get his suspended, and yet it takes days for Gregory. Goodells dog and pony show he pulled was BS. He knew he was suspending him before he even showed up in NY. God hate that mother ****er

I have no problem with the suspension...rules are rules, whether I agree with them or not.
I just really want to see him redirect his addictive behavior and be successful.

I've known lots of people with addictive behaviors, alcohol, drugs, sex, and I've seen them get just as addictive to other less destructive behaviors, reading, working out, making money. Honestly, it's still a little scary, even when it's reading or working out, but at least it's not as negative.

I honestly don't get how he was suspended 10 games and then a whole year.

Please someone explain to me how Bell has now had multiple counts of weed use and only missed three games? I'm genuinely confused and would like to know the difference in what they did.

That was way before social media. And that stuff took down a lot of companies, which is why it's watched so much more closely now.

Look, businesses can set drug policies. It's their right.
