The NFL can continue to suspend players for minor drugs (which are legal in some states and headed for legalization in all) because they have no competition. It was before my time, but think back to the time before the NFL merger of the AFL and NFL (or whatever it was). The NFL has suspended numerous players right now (Martavis Bryant, Gordon, Irving, Gregory, etc). If these players had a competing league to go to, I think the NFL would re-think their policy. It is quite possible for the NFL to split if enough teams and players disagree with what the shenanigans the NFL is pulling right now.

Tell that to the thousands of medical cannabis users who have clearly benefited from the plant. The NFL needs to drop it. Players want a natural alternative to opioids.

I'm not saying it isn't great for many issues. But there is a big difference between benefits for those suffering from chronic pain vs. stuff like CTE. Again, I am 100% pro cannabis (I literally have my vape pen and a joint in my bag right now) but there needs to be substantial clinical trials before we start anointing it as a cure for everything.

You have to be clean for a month in the off-season before Training Camp..... if you pass the yearly test then you are free to smoke all you want for a year

If you get caught then quit for 3 months and you get it expunged

It’s easier to critique papers based on substance abuse in my opinion. I have had to critique a few papers and I would find it easier to go with something that uses statistics which substance abuse becomes favored more so than medical benefits in most drugs.

I find cannibas to be a plant based drug which is nothing compared to the synthetic herione that is passed around these days.

With CTE becoming the main issue I would hope the NFL use cannibas or CBD as research tool and possibly leaning more towards players abusing alcohol which dehydrates the brain

I get randomly tested but I do have a choice, I can submit to the test or I can find another job. Of course my job does not pay near as much as Gregory gets but my job is important to me and allows me to provide a good life for my family. Before working here I smoked weed daily but when push came to shove what is important in my life it was easy to put it down. To me this is not about agreeing with the rule or disagreeing with it, it is about making a choice given the reality you face. It is what it is and it is not going to change just for Gregory, NFL Owners and NFLPA agreed to these terms and either Gregory will abide by the rules or he will not play it is that simple

This is what I don't understand and why I question if the issue is just weed. I know a lot of people that smoke weed. I know people at my job that get caught and have to serve a 30 day suspension for testing positive. But every single one of them stop before getting fired. Not a single person that I know of got fired because he couldn't stop smoking weed. I'd know, word gets around quick about that stuff. This is for a 30 to 50 dollar an hour job to plow snow, how is it guys making millions can't seem to do it? Something's not right.

The players could just not agree to the weed policy
It’s there because the dollars were more important to the players.
I believe after 2020 there will be a new CBA between mgt and players
If it’s important to the players then they can get something changed
I suspect many owners would like to lax the policy on weed themselves but they don’t want to be seen as soft on drugs

I'm not sure this is is about actually testing positive for MJ. The drug policy was changed to lower infractions on weed just a few years ago

You don't think other places would have drug policies? Heck these guys could go into public sanitation and they are still gonna get tested. Even legal drugs and alcohol can get you fired no matter what you do.

Well, if you are a new start-up league and are trying to pull players from the NFL, wouldn't you think a good selling point would be to not do any drug testing? Fans sure as heck don't care about drug testing.

The NFL doesn't have any competition so it can make any rule it wants as long as the goofy union agrees.
