Grier's great game and gets cut

Or....................................

Different playcaller utilized his skillset. We went to a short pass O, which appeared to fit Grier.

Previous to this season, we've been operating a mid/long range passing O. It's more than possible that it just didn't fit him.
We saw when they tried deep passes. The short stuff was working.

His play calling did make Grier look good… but that was against backups (or worse) who hadn’t game planned at all for that offense.

I do think this offense is going to do well this season, so don’t think I’m saying anything negative about it here. I really like what they’re doing and the OL coach they have now is very good and his lines play aggressive. Schottenheimer and McCarthy emphasizing the run and play action passing is going to help that side of the ball in a huge way, IMO. And taking away some of the WR options is going to go a long way towards Dak lowering the INT’s.

However, playing against the Raiders backups and people who won’t make the team helped Grier out, I’m sure. Even more importantly IMO, the defense not game planning helped him have larger passing windows and left huge gaps for the QB to run through.

It will be tougher sledding when the games count.

And yes, I know Grier was playing with plenty of backups too. He really did have a nice game, regardless. Good for him.

To be fair it's back ups against back ups, which is a pretty level playing field. We are also sure they didn't open up the playbook for a preseason game. Dak demonstrated a good feel for the game.

Gotta throw deep now and then to keep the S's from simply coming up and jumping routes. The deep throws help the short passes work.

Could be not going to dispute that.

There are about 12-15 legitimate NFL starting quarterbacks in the world at any given time.

The rest are just fodder.

On second thought, I wouldnt be surprised of they did cut Rush instead...

Nothing this team does surprises me anymore.
That would not be a bad idea, Rush already shopped around this year in FA and got no bites. Is he PS eligible?

This is a classic Jerry move.

Too Little Too Late .

You got to be consistent . Grier can be inconsistent in another team .

I don’t disagree, and yeah I mentioned in my last sentence that his teammates were all backups.

My main point was that when the games are real, it won’t always be so smooth against starting defenses.

I will say this: if the backup OL was doing that well against other backups… usually that means you have an effective OL coach (Solari) and run game coordinator (Schottenheimer), which typically means the team’s run game will have a good year. After enough time in camp and a couple of preseason games, the OL is starting to gel… showing the excellent scheme and coaching that unit is getting.

I have wanted Solari in Dallas going all the way back to his decade in KC. The guy is a very good coach and those lines played like the best in the league. Like Martin said, he coaches with an edge and it shows in his lines.

And yet he is 5-1 as a starter. He is your backup just because he plays well within the offense

5-1 as a starter while barely throwing for 100 yards. He played solid ball but can we please stop tossing up that 5-1 as if he tossed the ball all around the yard.

If that's the case, according to your logic..... Trent Dilpher is a better quarterback than Marino and Jim Kelly because he is 1-0 in the Superbowl.

I assume you believe Dilpher was a better quarterback than Kelly and Marino because they failed to win a Superbowl huh.....

Nice post, good to hear about Solari. He seemed like a mediocre signing at the time, but that's probably because very few (me) actually have any knowledge base when it comes to oline coaches in general. Good to hear he has educated fans who support the signing.

I agree with you on Grier as well. It is funny how well he played knowing it was his last chance to impress. He probably locked himself in to another roster. Good for him.

As long as he plays within the system and helps the team to wins, he's doing his job. Nobody is mistaking him for a starter.

the post-game interview with Grier was a tough one to watch.

but Grier is a tough guy. He was a real worker at WVU and has been in the NFL, that's why he's still around.

He'll use what he learned in Dallas to hopefully compete for a QB2/QB3 spot elsewhere.

IMO: MIA, LAC, MIN, ATL, ARI, or LAR

Not a big deal. If they still like Grier a year from now then they might be able to bring him back to camp again to compete for a backup job. But torching the Raiders backups in the final preseason game is not the same as Rush already showing that he can win real games. It may not be flashy but Rush knows the system and proved that he can keep the team afloat if Dak is out for a few games.

Maybe Grier can find a landing spot in LA with Kellen though.

Doubtful, especially knowing we're going to cut him.
If a team likes Grier, they can give a conditional pick to make sure they get him instead of hoping he falls to them in waivers. A QB that shows he can play is worth something.

Don't get me wrong, I REALLY appreciated Rush for his contributions. I'm actually on record last season saying I think Rush should keep the starting job for the remainder of the season if he was able to lead us past the Eagles.....

We all know how that worked out for him. With that said, Rush is a solid backup and that's commendable.

But for those fee low football IQ trolls to say he's better than Dak is just comical.

Not ONE of those trolls answered my question as to why haven't the the other 31 scouts, GMs, offensive coordinators, and head coaches realized in the last 7 years that Rush is a better starting quarterback than Dak. Where are the phone calls to give Rush a max contract and require his services???

Why is it so hard for the Dak haters to answer these simple questions?
