Not sure if he will. It isn't like he's some developmental QB whose talent just finally crested. He's an up-and-down player who had an up moment. Most teams want more consistent players than him as their No. 2 and players who are more developmental as their No. 3.

He is only fifth year, though, so some team might see this as a sign that he can grow into the player he was tonight ... like Dallas did a couple of years ago when the Cowboys claimed him.
Two seasons with Carolina - with his only regular season playing time was the last two games of his rookie year.
Then two with Dallas...but couldn't unseat Rush for the backup role.
Grier turned 28 this past spring. His opportunity to become a starting NFL QB probably is gone...but remaining in the league as QB2 remains a possibility.

I don't think Cooper Rush ever had 4 tds in a game. I could be wrong.
No but he has four wins against real competition in his CV. No wait, five. Not only that, he kept a team alive over more than a month when it had a crashlanding for a season start. Rush may not have the better arm, but if I had to go with either of them in a real football game I'd go with Rush.

Oh, and by the way, just in case "it was the team" that won Rush's games, I guess it was also "the team" yesterday, eh?

I never got the Grier fans. He was never any good. And I'm not saying this in hindsight. The game yesterday was a nice job application video though, good for him. Wish him well.

I hope Dak calling the plays tonight opened his mind to different choices during the real season. His play calling made Grier look impressive. Hopefully Dallas can trade Grier for something in return.

His play calling did make Grier look good… but that was against backups (or worse) who hadn’t game planned at all for that offense.

I do think this offense is going to do well this season, so don’t think I’m saying anything negative about it here. I really like what they’re doing and the OL coach they have now is very good and his lines play aggressive. Schottenheimer and McCarthy emphasizing the run and play action passing is going to help that side of the ball in a huge way, IMO. And taking away some of the WR options is going to go a long way towards Dak lowering the INT’s.

However, playing against the Raiders backups and people who won’t make the team helped Grier out, I’m sure. Even more importantly IMO, the defense not game planning helped him have larger passing windows and left huge gaps for the QB to run through.

It will be tougher sledding when the games count.

And yes, I know Grier was playing with plenty of backups too. He really did have a nice game, regardless. Good for him.

It looked to me like a preview of Dak's career once he retires from playing QB. He called a great game. It might be a natural career transition for him.

Game planning. Raider's defense was not expecting this. Grier was playing against 3rd teamers. Not sure it was a smart move showing some of your offensive plays before the season starts.

I wish the young quarterback a smooth road and quickly to another team.

That games should tell you all you need to know about Grier. Why hasn’t he played like that from day 1? He obviously isn’t internally motivated to be that guy, to be his best all the time. He was satisfied just being on a NFL roster and doing just enough to stay on one. Take that spot away and he plays lights out? No thanks. He will never be great because that’s not what drives him. He was happy just being a backup or 3rd QB collecting a NFL check.

Let's not martyr him.

He wasn't good enough in any other game

I know it's backups, but Grier is the second best quarterback on our squad. Grier has shown heart, the ability to create in off-script situations and he has pretty good touch on his downfield passes.

Rush is solid, but he's pretty much a dink and dunker and it's highly unlikely you'll get 300 passing yards out of him. Rush is a solid backup but he's shown that he barely passes for over 100 yards a game.
And yet he is 5-1 as a starter. He is your backup just because he plays well within the offense

Not too complicated to see the NFL at its core is a player development league. Rush and Grier are at their ceilings and Lance presents an opportunity to develop a young player and improve the roster capital. Why keep both Grier and Rush?

I was glad that DC gave him the opportunity to audition and he played with class tonight knowing this was his last game as a Cowboy. Good luck Will!

yes he did show some class, not sure I wouldn't have pulled a couple of stunts like this. Good for him hope he gets picked up.

Funny, he picked up his game after the trade, similar to people all of a sudden playing out of the minds in a contract year.
Or....................................

Different playcaller utilized his skillset. We went to a short pass O, which appeared to fit Grier.

Previous to this season, we've been operating a mid/long range passing O. It's more than possible that it just didn't fit him.
