"We anticipated [the suspension of Randy Gregory]," said Jones, via 105.3FM the Fan on Friday morning. "We knew the circumstances.

and so should everyone else when jeri mentioned prior to his suspension that it wasnt certain Gregory would be available for the playoffs, when jeri isn't uber optimistic about something, thats a neon flashing light telling you theres a problem.

I don't remember that one. Was the officiating controversial then also?
2005 Steelers vs Seahawks 21-10
2008 Steelers vs Cardinals 27-23

The two wins over the Cowboys had suspect officiating as well. Everyone knows the Fred Swearingen atrocity in Super Bowl XIII by now, but in Super Bowl X, the Steelers managed to be called for zero penalties in the game.

Yeah. There was a horrible no call on james harrison for blantant and i mean BLATANT unsportsmanlike conduct. And the biggest one was the "fumble" from Kurt Warner which was an incomplete pass. Arm was fully moving forward, refs didnt even bother to review it.
I'm not really a conspiracy theory type, but the issues with the officials and the Steelers really makes me wonder.

It's time for the officiating process to catch up to modern times. The review process is antiquated at this point. They still have a review booth on the field. That is dumb, IMO. I actually thought they had gone completely to a replay official because they rarely show the replay booth anymore, but it's still there. Why? They have the system in place for a replay official and everything is setup for multiple people to review plays back at the NFL offices. Just let the person of people watching the replays from their comfy seat make the decision. It's just wasting time for the on-field guys to go to the replay booth on the sidelines.

If we the fans and the TV broadcast crew can watch multiple replays in a very short period of time, then the people in the NFL office should be able to do it also. They shouldn't just be reviewing calls made by the on-field refs. They should be viewing the game as it goes along and be in constant live communication with the on-field head ref. Any bad call or non-call should be open to be overruled by the replay officials at anytime.

The reason the overall system does not progress is political. The on-field refs don't like to be overruled and they don't like to feel that their importance is being diminished by technology. The refs union is strong and resists changes. It was interesting to find out back when the went on strike that the replay refs were not part of the union.

Yes, this is the reason why they call it the Idiot Test. You literally have to be an idiot to fail it, because they routinely tip people off before the test if they aren't in the program.

You know who fails this test? Idiots or addicts.

In other words, two types of people that you don't want on your team. Decide for yourself which category Randy Gregory falls into.

I would call players like Gregory low-hanging fruit the league picks off to project the illusion they have an effective drug program. Many of the players they harvest are not dumb, just people who grew up in a culture much different than the one they find themselves after they enter the NFL, a place where players can smoke pot with impunity during the preseason, season, and playoffs, but are at risk of getting a death penalty of sorts for firing up a blunt back home in a Nebraska corn field on a summer afternoon. It doesn't make any sense to me, so it comes as no surprise it makes no sense to a few players here and there who decide to just ignore it.

He should have just beat his wife or girlfriend. Would be no big deal and he'd be playing right now. Or get so plastered drunk you don't even know where you are but get behind a destructive piece of machinery (vehicle) and drive He's still be playing, too ala Michael Floyd.

But don't you dare smoke a natural plant!

we can legalize drugs if that's what society wants (which I believe will occur), but what will happen is that the consequences will merely shift and be absorbed within the framework of a society that finds marijuana use legally acceptable. You can't avoid the inherent consequences of a thing.

Yes sir, consequences will follow whichever path we choose to take.

I've never done drugs beside pot a few times and didn't like it, so I never really thought much about the subject. I pretty much passively acquiesced to the idea of the "war on drugs" until I started paying attention to its consequences and now I am convinced the "war on drugs" is an abject failure that will never be "won". I'm afraid the better path is to end the criminalization of drugs & hopefully severely damage the various cartels that profit from it and then spend the money previous used for prisons and fighting trafficking and use it for education and treatment.

I dont believe a perfect solution exists so no matter what we do, there will be consequences we don't like or anticipate.

There should be some type of independent replay review team for Super Bowls. They should have a big red button that they push if an egregious officiating error is being made.

If he lived in Denver, would outlawing marijuana be a violation of his legal rights?

Yeah, this whole system of how they determine who gets what punishment is a joke.

Also, doesn't Goodell have one of those smug faces you would love to just punch?

They all know going in that a missed test will be construed as a positive test, unless they have an absolutely solid excuse for missing.
If I had to take a test periodically at 5:30am in the off-season, I would probably end up missing one eventually.

Companies can test for alcohol which is a legal product.
alcohol/marijuana<performance enhancement or addictively unhealthy/life threatening?

Do legal marijuana states even add a limitation on consumption?

The list of acceptable states just increased by what, 12 this election?

I don't understand what you saying or asking.

The NFL would have to justify why they made a legal action unacceptable for their employment. Unless it adversely affects their sport, they can't.

Marijuana, doesn't affect performance as to enhancement of ability...nor is it addictive on basis of criminal categories. The NFL would then be laughed out of court, if brought under judicial review by either players or the Player's Association.
