Hard Knox Chat

I don't know that fans like us (meaning us on all the various messageboards) would ever be able to learn much new, because it's posted here and elsewhere in minutes.

However, I do get what you're saying, because there was stuff shown that we already knew had occurred. Pac catching six balls, for example. And some of the sequencing kinda threw me off. But if you didn't follow the team closely, all of that would've been fascinating and brand new.

I thought it was a good introduction to the team. Very straightforward with a few chuckles along the way.

Of course, what I think is REALLY interesting is what happens when we make roster decisions -- that to me was the most compelling stuff last time and obviously we didn't have much of that (aside from the Jerry stuff with Glenn). I do worry that Jerry let the Glenn saga go on for so long so that he could do it in front of the cameras though.

I do think that if they wanted to concentrate on the human side of things that we have two great stories that could have been covered and would have been far more compelling (Ware and Dixon)

Yowza man. What did you want to learn? You do realize none of our players are secretly spies in the offseason or anything like that. I've never seen that side of Jason or his kids so was actually kinda cool I thought.

Yes, but there are better stories to be had - as I noted in the previous post.

Don't know about the Jerry theory, but roster decisions will always be compelling. It just sucks, because I hope they don't show them cutting the guy like they did in the first one. That's pretty raw to me. I've hated getting fired or let go or laid off or whatever and that would suck to be captured on video for eternity.

Only so much they can cover in 50 mins abs. Lots more stories to tell. And with the history of Hard Knocks they seem to always go after the bottom of the roster type stories. Dixon may very well come up unless he's instructed them not to cover his story.

Sure -- but the choice of stories... I could have used a bit more meat than given by seeing someone try to catch six balls, or sing into a microphone with two...

I really liked it but some of it was really staged. I wish they would just air the true stuff.

That call to Ray Lewis was so fake. I mean they just happened to have a camera there. And they both sounded like they were reading off a script. lol. I mean no one could really believe that was a genuine phone call.

But some of the other stuff was really good.

This is already my favorite show of all time. Lol. I seriously got chills, even during the corny dramatics at the beginning. The whole team duplicating a scene from Remember the Titans? Priceless. Adam Jones soaking Felix? Hilarious. That package on TO's dominance? Brilliant. Wade's goofiness? Great stuff.

I love America's Team.

You have a point, but remember also this is going out to a wider audience than just us. Much as we might wish, the whole country's not Cowboys' fans, and some aren't even football fans. It's inevitable that HBO decides to emphasize things (the 'human interest' part) that some of us could care less about.

Things like what goes into making roster decisions may not get much time, other than the reality angle they want: seeing a player's face when his dream is shattered and he has to go somewhere else.

I watch very little TV other than football and hockey; don't have much use for it otherwise. But considering what HBO peddles, this sounds like their kind of style. The fact that it's the Dallas Cowboys just makes it watchable.

Great show! It's always cool to me when us fans get to see some of the inner workings of the team!

Best line to me of the whole show was when Garrett started talking about swagger, they showed a clip of Romo throwing an out route and while he was throwing he said under his breath..."that's like stealing money". :D

Got to see that play where marion barber just completely destroyed that linebacker. Felix Jones got a bucket of water poured on him. It was pretty sweet getting a look into the war room, it was basically jerry jones just telling all the coaches that he was gonna pick felix.

I got the impression that it was Garret's remark......put the icing on the cake for Felix.

Martellus Bennett reminded me of when he was one of the top HS recruits in the state of Texas. He called a press conference to announce which school he was going to commit to. He stood in front of a lot of microphones and flashing cameras and said (paraphrasing0 "After a lot of soul searching, I decided I'm going to go to the University of Miami (I'm don't remember the actual school), and put on a Hurricane cap. Then he took the cap off and said "... but then I decided I wanted to go the University of Texas" and put on a Longhorn hat. Then said "but then I finally decided Texas A&M was going to be my home" and took off the Longhorn hat and put on the Aggie hat.

It wasn't enough to just declare your commitment, he had to make a spectacle about it in front of the media and tease other school's fans. It left the distinct impression that, even at 18 years old , he kind of had a healthy opinion of himself.
how did we miss this? seriously? Forget the Cowboys...this guy does not seem long for the NFL?

I agree that was probably the icing on the cake but they left out some of the other reasoning, such as work ethic that we heard about before. They probably left it out so as not to make the team look like they were taking shots at Mendenhall.

I would, but I am curious about what you were expecting from the show and maybe what would've happened on the show that you would've found exciting.

Nothing wrong with not really liking it. Just curious, cuz you're about the only dissenter right now. Almost bbgun-like. lol

Or maybe others are relentlessly positive. Anybody would look like a "dissenter" compared to people who are 100% in the tank. The Crayton/Rodgers thread is illustrative of that.

I didn't see the first episode of the Chiefs' edition of Hard Knocks. Did they focus on the lesser-known players right away?

My impression was that last night's episode was sort of a scene-setter, getting the main characters (Owens, Romo, Adam Jones, coaches, etc.,) out of the way and introducing a few of the lesser-knowns, but that the real storylines will develop in later episodes. After only 10 days or so of camp, it's difficult to know which lesser-known players to focus on. Who knows, the next episode could focus almost completely on guys such as Lowber, Lattimore, Amendola, Dixon, Terrell, Butler, Jefferson, etc.

By the way, can anyone figure out Jerry's chicken scratches? After "1st Day" and "1 on 1 =", I can't tell what he was writing. The third line looks something like "Woo Aubley."

How bout that akward ending to the Sam Herd and Jerry conversation where Sam goes to shake Jerrys hand and Jerry is just pointing at him over and over.

VERY akward.

Nothing wrong with taking a positive view on things....or in some cases not particularly giving a **** about the things that might drive other people nuts. (Crayton/Rodgers thread also illustrative of that, as well)

I liked the episode and I also thought there were some things that could've been better. But since he was about the only real critic of the show, I wanted to know more about what he thought.

Comparing him to you wasn't really a knock at you, more like an observation.

Just admit to the fact that you're a happy-go-lucky do-gooder that sees the donut rather than the hole... ;)
