I am as big of a Romo fan as there is. Unfortunately that window is slammed shut. Years wasted without a coach. Payton wouldn't come now to help an ailing qb win a ring. Its time to get the next guy at qb and maybe at some point a real coach ..jerry willing.

But he has an offensive line to work with. No a big fan of Hardy, but the defensive line is starting to shape up nicely. Brees doesn't have many more years either and they are strapped by terrible cap management. If you thought Dallas kicked the can down the road, the Saints have kicked a house....

No, it's not.. They already clinched a playoff birth and played top level defenses during that time...

We were struggling for a long stretch and sucked against scrubs, when the records mattered and we needed only two wins.

Nobody is talking about maintaining greatness when you lose your franchise QB.. That's a straw man argument..

And it was Arians second year.. He has his team playing top level football a second year in a row... Hell, his first year when they didn't make the playoffs, you can argue the same with him being 10-6. And in a division that had the 49ers and Seahawks as the top two teams in the NFC..

We've had our franchise QB with Garrett going on 4 years now as HC and 8 as OC..

Ok

Yea, but if we end up with a top 5 pick and a chance for Payton to draft one of the 2 top QBs, that might be real enticing. Still a lot of "ifs" but something to consider.

Do most people really not know that Payton has been significantly worse than Garrett the past four years?

Man, he had those Saints looking sharp last night. Especially the 3 TD's called back inside of 20 seconds. I shut it off after it was 28-7.

That's the discipline this team is looking for!

Unless jerry would give him full authority on personnel decisions, I don't see it happening. Even then, it's be a giant stretch. Money won't do it, that's for sure. He makes plenty there and Dallas doesn't outpay people when it comes to HCs.
Plus, we would have to give the saints several draft picks. They aren't letting him walk for free.

Give me Mike Shula over Payton. What he's done with the Carolina offense and particularly Cam Newton has been nothing short of astonishing. In his short run as a QB coach with Jacksonville he coached David Garrard into the Pro Bowl. In his short time with Carolina he's turned Greg Olsen into a 1000 yard receiver two years in a row, coached a rookie WR in Kelvin Benjamin into a 1000 yard season, and Carolina ranks 3rd in rushing yards. That's not to mention Newton who is having a MVP season and looks like a man among boys. I'd love to see what he could do with a Witten, Bryant, and a rookie QB like Lynch or Goff.

I'd have zero issues with Shula! Plus that would mean that Garrett is no longer the coach :)

You do realize in 2012, he wasn't coaching and they went 7-9 and couldn't make any decisions and the very next year they went 11-5. It's not significantly worse at all...

When did Garrett ever sniff 11 wins with Rob Ryan as his DC?

Garrett's record is better solely in last season and this year, Sean is in a rebuilding year.

If your logic is Payton has played put his term with the Saints, what does that mean for Garrett then?

Sean has a SB.. Garrett hasn't done jack squat.. His only progress was when Jerry took play-calling duties away from him..

What's it going to be then, eh?

Significantly? Not really. But he was stupid enough to hire Rob Ryan and shackled by poor cap management as well, so they are at least equal.

Payton, Schula or Hue Jackson.. Doesn't matter, get that scrub Garrett out of here.. I'd even take a look at McVay with the Commanders and that offense, considering they are running similar running schemes and play ball control TOP, with a much more creative passing game than our offense...

He fired him and we aren't brining him back, so that's not really a worry..

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...its-about-winning-games-not-running-the-ball/

And guys like Hue Jackson know what they are talking about and we wouldn't need to hear from Garrett his parroted response that we need to run the ball more to win..

“We’re trying to win games. It’s not about running the ball. Please,” Jackson said, via ESPN.com. “That’s not the only thing we do. We throw the ball, too. You asked me about running the ball and you said, ‘Are we going to jump-start the running game?’ And I said, ‘We’re running the ball.’ So I don’t understand what it is that you guys are looking for.”
