Plenty of cap room going forward. Deal is most likely front loaded and Robert won't get a new deal for at least 2 more seasons.

Notice that this is the Commanders "biggest" signing this offseason, and its not even in the middle of deals compared to most of the deals FA's are signing

lots of cap space and not many good players of your own to re-sign is a problem long term.

Moving goalposts huh?

Gotta start somewhere. A veteran starter who will be gone in 3 years with minimal cap consequences that helps an area of need is a nice signing. Not quite Tiffany's but not quite the Walmart FA's that the Commanders have signed so far

Ugh!!! Im betting that Cowboys FO handled this poorly also like they did Ware. Jerry really needs to step down from his GM position, NOW.

Handled Ware's situation poorly? lmao. Sure. So overpaying Ware is the way to go? You do know that ALL SIGNS pointed to Ware not wanting to take a paycut. Sorry bud, but the right move was made. Oh, and letting Hatcher walk was the right thing to do as well if you ask me.

I'm betting that Hatcher is gone before 3 years... but I could be wrong.

The move just doesn't make sense for you guys though. With all the positions that you needed to fill, spending that money on a position that can be filled by just about anyone doesn't make sense. It seems like you would save your money for the impact positions and fill these kind of spots with low priced guys.

Oh well... I don't pretend to know what the Commanders are doing, so maybe they have something else planned besides just playing him at 34 DE.

More then likely Bowen gets cut/injury settlement and he plays in the 3 tech on 3rd downs as a pass rusher.

If the team moves to a 1-gap scheme and away from the current 2-gap scheme (which is what signing Hatcher and re-signing Baker indicate) he will be a good fit there.

The Commanders have needs at literally every position on the roster, so signing anyone of consequence helps. With cap room this year, and for at least the next 2 years, having Hatcher on a 4 year deal with the cap going up is not a big deal at all. Especially seeing that he is the only "big" signing this offseason thus far

Right moves....Absolutely..... its about time the Cowboys make the right moves...long overdue....does it matter if your 8-8 and missing the playoffs or RISK a possible 5-11, 7-9 year and rebuild for a championship...... Its been a long time since I thought the Cowboys were moving in the right directions.....I am actually excited about what the future brings....not the past headaches....

This sucks. Not so much for him in WAS, but for officially having a bigger hole here in DAL. As for Hatcher in WAS, he's dead to me. I hope he gets piles.

I thought the entire reason for cutting Ware's salary was so that we would have the cap to resign Hatcher?

Not so much huh?

I think with Hatch it may not have been salary but years, I'm surprised that he got 4 yrs for a soon to be 32 yr old. Which may be the reason he wasn't offered a contract until now. Again I like Hatch but I'm glad he didn't get that contract from Dallas. Let's get younger and stronger in that front 7.

The odd thing is, that was more fans speculating and the team has been amazingly silent.

Even in weeks where there is nothing going on, you can count on one of the Joneses for some idiotic soundbytes.

Creepy silence right now other than waving goodbye to Ware.

Hatcher was Pro Football Focus’ fourth-rated pass-rushing defensive tackle in 2013, behind only Gerald McCoy, Ndamukong Suh and Jurrell Casey, amassing seven quarterback hits and 33 hurries along with his 11 sacks. Moreover, when playing end in a 3-4 as he did in Dallas before 2013 and will for the Commanders over the next few years, Hatcher was able to bring just as much overall heat on enemy quarterbacks. He amassed eight hits and 29 hurries as a right defensive end in 2012, slipping inside to tackle when the Cowboys went to their nickel and dime fronts

Ask yourself this question: If he's so good, why was he available?

Do you know that for sure? I don't know what the contract was, but do you know if another team offered him the same kind of money?

No but I'm thinking Hatcher is not a fool to sign with a non-SB team for less than another team will give him. Perhaps he and his agent are both tupid.
