That is absolutely 100% absurd. Is reaching the playoffs enough to be happy about? No, of course not. But it's sure as hell sufficient not to fire the coaching staff even if he is kinda fat.

If Wade looked and talked like a drill sergeant he'd be the toast of the town right now. People would exclaim how we lead the NFC in scoring defense and wreak havoc on opposing QBs.
The last guy looked and talked like a drill sergeant and I was one of the people happiest he was gone. Why? Because he did not win.

I don't blame the fans either. Reaching the playoffs is not enough. We need to win some post season games.

Other regimes have also failed in that regard. Most recently, the Parcells regime, though we can argue that he may have had slighly less talent to work with for most of his tenure.

At some point, the players have to want it, and play like they want it at critical times.

I was happy to see him go because he was too hard-headed and stuck in old ways. I'm glad to see that nitwit gone. His ego was entirely too big to be an objective coach. Everything was subject to Parcellsisms and Parcells guys and Parcells style.

I was glad to see him come when he came and was even happier to see him go.

I did like him back when we ended up with Wade. Good memory. It must offend you somehow to remember that and assume this.

???
I just remember you giving him props and thought he was the man. Do you think he would have the Cowboys at a better place as a team? Not sure what you are talking about when you say your opinion "offended" me.

Of course I never said being a drill sergeant alone was sufficient did I? So this is completely irrelevant.

If Parcells had Phillips' record and Phillips' defensive mind he'd have been loved. People hated the defensive collapse that happened under Parcells. It was evident Xs and Os were beyond him.

I do give him lots of credit though. He inherited a train wreck of a team that had three 5-11 seasons in a row...and even willed a Quincy Carter QB'd team to the playoffs.

I knew the drill sergeant description would not really be the point once it was refuted.

I don't think Wade is. It's said often enough and interpretations of Jerry's comment not withstanding, the truth is a show of progression - which already exists even at this point - is enough to validate his theory for keeping Wade this season.

Teams have to grow together and I think the most important change in Jerry's behavior might be to finally accept this, which I have the feeling he has. The one hit wonders don't provide a blue print for team building at all and 3 years is in no way adequate time to really let a team grow into a true working unit.

I really believe Wade is going to be HC of Dallas next year. But then I also believe he's going to kill one of his own demons and this team will go far in the post season.

The guy who said Jimmie Johnson never had a losing season.

I didn't say that. I got to thinking about Chan Gailey and how he had a winning record and still got fired. Then, I got to thinking why Jerry would fire someone with a winning record. Then, I remembered that he fired Jimmy Johnson after the guy won freakin' two Super Bowls back-to-back.

So, then I wrote, "Or Jimmy Johnson!"

It's spelled J-I-M-M-Y by the way.

The game in the new era has surpassed him. You can see this from his choice of QBs, such as Bledsoe and Testie. And it wasn't just on the defensive side of the ball, imo.

Dunno, just the tone when I read it I guess.

He was demoted to LB coach and people were kind of indignant about my having liked him. Now he's back to being a DC and HC candidate. I'm not shocked. I just think the guy is a really good football coach.

I do not want him over Garrett. Never have. Not even then. I just prefer not to go retread on Head Coach.

So? I think you liked him early and late in the coaching carousel of the Cowboys. Does he bring more to the table than our current coach or did I miss something in the thread?
He certainly hasn't been able to get that defense back where Wade had it. And it's amazing to me that he would bench Antoine Cason when he was having such a great season. I don't think the guy is all that bright and don't think he's highly thought of around the league.

And he never coached under Wade.

I am pretty sure I did not call you out on it at the time. To tell the truth I was not sure what direction we were going to go and who the coach should be. I am glad it has worked out as well as it has.

You may not have. Like I said, just the tone in my head when I read it. Paranoia? Dunno?

Sure I did. I was just laughing at the irrelevant claim.
You were only laughing because you didn't understand it. I said if Wade were a drill sergeant he'd be loved. This means that a coach would have to have Wades defense and Wades record in addition to being a drill sergeant.

Parcells had neither so bringing him up is irrelevant.

And I will merely repeat again that Jerry himself said he would like to be rewarded with some post season wins. To me, that equals the hot seat.

I don't think it has anything to do with any other reason. What Wade looks like. How he sounds in PCs. What his zodiac sign is. Whether he puts 2% milk on his cold cereal.

It is about post season wins. Wade needs them to save his job. We cannot look bad or he will be gone.
