All good points BUT..montgod;1468073 said:I beg to differ. Are you telling me that at this point you are fully comfortable depending on all of our Olinemen to make it throughout the whole year at a high level? Flozell didn't perform at a high level last year, we have all heard the knock on the star signing of Leonard Davis, and Colombo isn't out of the woods yet in terms of a possible injury. This doesn't make me feel totally confident in giving up valuable picks for one player and not addressing the needs of the team as a whole. Drafting a young Olineman in the first three rounds would be ideal to make sure that Romo, JJ, Barber, etc can do well offensively for the whole year. Don't let me remind you how well the offensive line was when Flozell went down for the year.
Then to add that the Boys biggest weakness last year was the secondary, it would seem smart to draft a first or second round talent to help fill in this void which would give insurance if Henry or Glenn go down in to injury. Don't also forget that Hamlin is just a year from his major injury as well. Whose to say he won't go down ...besides the fact that he still doesn't truly answer the FS void. Depending on a fifth round choice in Watkins is silly when you have FS availble early in the draft who have been compared to the likes of Ed Reed. There was a reason why he was benched.
We already know about the Wrs, I think it can go either way, but I agree that they don't produce normally until the second year, but at least the Boys would have someone in the wings with talent.
Yes, drafting AP would be a possible superstar who might do better than JJones and push our running game to another level. Lots of question marks there though. On the flipside, AP could also get injured in the beginning of the year, not be able to adjust to the NFL, or suffer from a depleted Oline if someone gets injured.
With JJones and Barber last year, the Boys know what they are getting and were very successful in the running game last year. With an upgraded line from FA and the draft, the sky is the limit. I wouldn't even rule out JJones coming back to form with a line that could actually give him holes to run through.
Then to add all the other valuable team players from the draft, the Boys would be strong on all aspects and not susceptable to injury or lack of talent.
In the end, next year as with any NFL team, depends on how long you can last and keep your team playing at a high level. With multiple great players versus one potential superstar, I think Dallas would be much more successful.
Almost your entire argument hedges on our players getting hurt.. Well, you could use that argument for any team or any position.. What if Peyton Manning gets hurt? But more importantly, I just don't think that line of thinking holds up.. We have good, solid backups already.. You can only go so deep at each position.. Do you really think that a 2nd and 3rd rounder this year are gonna be the difference makers?
