Concord, your list two posts up left off last year's winner, Sam Bradford.

It's from 2006 before he won it.

I just looked up 2006 Heisman Voting for Troy Smith and that page came up.

Gerhart really didn't play against great compatition either. I mean, he certainly had a great season but if you look at the defenses he faced, the toughest Rush Defense was Arizona St. ranked 18th but that is the only top 20 run defense he saw.

Here is how that schedule broke out as far as defensive rankings Gerhart faced. The first number is total defense. The second number is rush defense.

Washington St. 120th/117th
Wake Forest 73rd/82nd
San Jose State 109th/119th
Washington 79th/67th
UCLA 38th/60th
Oregon St. 50th/25th
Arizona 21/22nd
Arizona St. 12th/18th
Oregon 32nd/38th
USC 42nd/42nd
California 70th/27th
Notre Dame 87th/90th

You compare that with the defenses Ingram, Tebow or McCoy and it's not even close.

Suh had a monster game against Texas, in part, because I don't believe Texas schemed him very well at all. Having said that, he is a great player in his own right. The guy, as a DT, seeing doubles and triples by every team he plays, has recorded 12 sacks (10 solo and 4 assisted), 82 tackles (50 Solo and 32 assisted), 23 tackles for loss (16 Solo and 7 assisted), 21 QB Pressures, 10 pass defenses, 1 FF, 1 INT and 3 blocked kicks. This is from a defensive tackle that is always facing at least two guys. I don't know how you can say he hasn't played well except for a game here or there.

McCoy is going to finish fourth.

It'll either be Ingram or Gerhart, with an edge to Ingram.

I don't think this is correct. I'd probably vote for Suh but I'd vote for McCoy second if I had a vote.

I saw Suh play regularly and he's a great player but I don't think he's as impressive as Gerhart. He dominated Texas but that proved what I thought year in the year after the Oklahoma game that Texas wasn't as good as most thought. Gerhart has been amazing in almost every big game I've seen him play in. I wasn't really that impressed with Suh when they played OU outside of a play or two. OU just stunk that game and had a stupid game plan like they always do because of inferior coaching. Also Suh didn't do a thing against Texas Tech. His best game of the year might have been against a bad ISU team.
Tech ran away from Suh all game. Smart approach but it hardly says Texas is overrated. I'm assuming you don't like UT? :D

Out of curiosity, why do you think that's not correct?

I think all the drama is at the top with Ingram and Gerhart, and possibly Suh. I think the bottom two will be pretty clear: Tebow 5th and McCoy 4th.

If it weren't "Tebow," I don't even think he would have merited an invite. He's going to be distant. They just wanted the hype and the ratings he may bring to the event.

McCoy will finish higher than him, but I think still solidly behind Suh.

It's a weird year in that QBs often dominate, but I think the QBs are going to be the "also-rans" this time around.

i also think the only reason five players are going is so they can have tebow there, i wouldnt be surprised if he got less points than graham harrell or crabtree had last year i also dont see mccoy being any higher than third, most likely fourth

I think McCoy has had a better year then that. If you compare his year to last year, it's not as good but then again, I think he should have won the Heisman last year. McCoy lost much of his WR corps last year, his backfield and much of his OL the past two seasons but has still put up better then average numbers this year. I mean, his season was not horrible, by any means.

3860 yards total offense, 30 TDs, 147 QBRT. Texas is undefeated and pretty much everything they do goes through McCoy. He leads the 3rd ranked scoring offense in the country.

Many of the same reasons Tebow won the award, the year he did are the same reasons you can say Colt is deserving.

Ingram is a great player but I think the case can be made that he is not the best RB, even in his own confrence. Dixon of Miss. St. and Steel from Memphis St. both have better numbers in fewer games with less talent. I also think that the Ingram has help with McElroy.

Tebow, well, he is a great player as well and has posted outstanding numbers, especially TDs with 31 this year. However, his team was beaten so that doesn't work well for him.

Gerhart has great numbers but he didn't play against strong defenses IMO. PAC10, IMO, is not a great conference this year, he has had a lot of help with Luck at QB and his team is 8-4. A great season, no question, but I would not call him the best player in the Country.

I believe Suh is deserving of the award. I would probably vote for him.

Not saying that Ingram, Tebow or Gerhart are not deserving. They all are or they wouldn't be there. I'm just saying that when I look at everything, McCoy is more deserving in my eyes.

i think its unfair for people to have all of the sudden decided that colt didnt deserve it after only one week! when he was a consensus pick for the award just last week! specially with ingram having had a bad game just one week ago against their biggest rival.

having said that i dont think he deserves it because he did struggle in the games leading up to the oklahoma game, he just wasnt as dominant as he was last year, when i feel he did deserve it

479 yards against TAM. 175 yards rushing and 304 passing, 5 TDs. I mean, he's only the third player in the history of the game to rush for 150 and throw for 300 in the same game.

Whether or not Colt wins it is not the issue.

The issue is that Colt McCoy will never have a Heisman and that kid deserves the award. Last year he was the best player in College Football.

Tebow and Bradford aren't carrying Texas like Colt did last year.

It will be upsetting but I can understand him not getting it this year a lot more than I can last year.

I think he carried the team, more this year, then last year. You have Ship but outside of that, who else? The only 1st team, All Big12 players from Texas this year are Colt and Shipley. Defensively, only Thomas made it.

I think Texas is just much more talented on both sides of the ball this season.

Last year they were talented but not anything like this years overall team.

Tebow and especially Bradford aren't having that type of season with the UT supporting cast from last year.

Im just glad he has a chance at a National Title. Everyone is going to give Texas no chance and i'll even admit that Texas doesn't match up well with Bama... BUT... Texas has Colt McCoy and if you have Colt McCoy than you have a chance to beat anyone, anytime, anywhere.

I don't think I would agree with that. Offensively, I think there really down. Last year, they had Cosby, Ogbonnaya and Dockery on Offense. Lewis, Melton, Orakpo, Miller and Bobino on defense.

Defensively, I'm actually shocked that they are as good as they are.

Ogbonnaya averaged 5.0 a carry last year and 11.7 per Rec. He had over 900 yards in total offense. Cosby had over 1100 yards last year and 10 TDs. The production of those two guys made a lot of difference for Texas and Colt IMO. You had to honor them and that allowed Colt to run much more effectively. Now, teams load the box much more and the fact that we have had nobody really stand out in our backfield has hurt us this year. Last year, Colt ran for 561 yards for 4.1 YPC and 11 TDs. This year, he's only 348 yards, 2.7 YPC and 3 rushing TDs.

Really, the only guy the defense game plans for, other then Colt is Ship. I definately don't think we are stronger this year, then last.

I've seen UT play several times and they don't really impress me on either side of the ball that much. Safeties are really good, defense is overall pretty good but there were no offenses in the Big 12 that were any good this year. The best offense in the conference was A&M and they were awful on offense this year from the team I saw in Norman. The Big 12 was about as weak as I've ever seen it. This includes the late 90s when Oklahoma and Texas stunk. A&M, Nebraska and Kansas State were all better than any team in the Big 12 this year.
