I've seen UT play several times and they don't really impress me on either side of the ball that much. Safeties are really good, defense is overall pretty good but there were no offenses in the Big 12 that were any good this year. The best offense in the conference was A&M and they were awful on offense this year from the team I saw in Norman. The Big 12 was about as weak as I've ever seen it. This includes the late 90s when Oklahoma and Texas stunk. A&M, Nebraska and Kansas State were all better than any team in the Big 12 this year.

I don't understand this. Texas A&M and Tech were both top 10 Offenses in the Nation. The best offenses in the SEC were Florida and Arkansas at 12 and 14. No other SEC offenses were in the top 20. If you look at scoring offense, Texas and Tech were in the top 10, 3rd and 9th respectively. Only Arkansas was in the top ten from the SEC at 8. I don't know that I would agree with the perception that nobody in the Big12 had a good offense.

I guess I don't understand the perception that we have no good offenses in the Big 12.

I don't think I would agree with that. Offensively, I think there really down. Last year, they had Cosby, Ogbonnaya and Dockery on Offense. Lewis, Melton, Orakpo, Miller and Bobino on defense.

Defensively, I'm actually shocked that they are as good as they are.

Ogbonnaya averaged 5.0 a carry last year and 11.7 per Rec. He had over 900 yards in total offense. Cosby had over 1100 yards last year and 10 TDs. The production of those two guys made a lot of difference for Texas and Colt IMO. You had to honor them and that allowed Colt to run much more effectively. Now, teams load the box much more and the fact that we have had nobody really stand out in our backfield has hurt us this year. Last year, Colt ran for 561 yards for 4.1 YPC and 11 TDs. This year, he's only 348 yards, 2.7 YPC and 3 rushing TDs.

Really, the only guy the defense game plans for, other then Colt is Ship. I definately don't think we are stronger this year, then last.

I'm not shocked they are better defensively. Last year was the first year under a new DC, so it was likely they'd be better in year two. The players they lost were replaced buy guys as good or better, and they had a VERY young secondary which is a lot better due to experience.

Offensively they should have been better on paper but weren't. Sure you lose Cosby but you would have expected someone to step in with their depth. But they lost Collins due to academic ineligibility, a guy who he had chemistry with..and Kirkendoll wasn't as consistent as expected. And for some reason they took awhile to roll Malcolm Williams out..a guy who yeah defenses need to game plan for. The offense hasn't had as much chemistry as last season.

And yeah he carried the team more last season, he ran the ball a lot more, giving them a running game.

I'm a big Texas fan but I wouldn't objectively vote for Colt for Heisman this season. Definitely deserved it last season. I don't really know who I'd vote for this season.. Probably Gerhart or Suh.

Your point about the scheme is a good one. I don't agree that we have better talent now then we did then. We don't have as good a player, on this team, as Orakpo. He is a guy who could not be blocked one on one by anybody. We don't have as good of an interior line combination as Miller and Lewis, although Houston has had a very good year. You figure, Kendle had 10 sacks last year. This year, he has 3.5. He was much more effective at LB, with Orakpo and Melton at DE then playing DE this year.

Our LBs are not as experienced this year as last and, I think, not as talented. They may eventually get there but this year, its not contest.

Offensively, maybe you expect somebody to step up but expectations and reality are different. The reality is that they have not. In certain games, they have all had good showings but collectively, I have yet to see them all show up. If I'm a DC, I'm not game planning for Williams. The simple fact that Colt was able to run more freely last year is an example of why the players we lost made us a better offense.

I said much earlier in this thread that I would vote for Suh, if I had a vote. However, I would not vote for anybody else over Colt.

I think McCoy has had a better year then that. If you compare his year to last year, it's not as good but then again, I think he should have won the Heisman last year. McCoy lost much of his WR corps last year, his backfield and much of his OL the past two seasons but has still put up better then average numbers this year. I mean, his season was not horrible, by any means.

3860 yards total offense, 30 TDs, 147 QBRT. Texas is undefeated and pretty much everything they do goes through McCoy. He leads the 3rd ranked scoring offense in the country.

Many of the same reasons Tebow won the award, the year he did are the same reasons you can say Colt is deserving.

Ingram is a great player but I think the case can be made that he is not the best RB, even in his own confrence. Dixon of Miss. St. and Steel from Memphis St. both have better numbers in fewer games with less talent. I also think that the Ingram has help with McElroy.

Tebow, well, he is a great player as well and has posted outstanding numbers, especially TDs with 31 this year. However, his team was beaten so that doesn't work well for him.

Gerhart has great numbers but he didn't play against strong defenses IMO. PAC10, IMO, is not a great conference this year, he has had a lot of help with Luck at QB and his team is 8-4. A great season, no question, but I would not call him the best player in the Country.

I believe Suh is deserving of the award. I would probably vote for him.

Not saying that Ingram, Tebow or Gerhart are not deserving. They all are or they wouldn't be there. I'm just saying that when I look at everything, McCoy is more deserving in my eyes.

Understood. We were talking about two different things, then.

I wasn't talking about who deserves it, I was talking about who's actually going to win it.

I don't think Ingram deserves it most, in fact, I'd have him 4th probably.

I was just talking about where I think the candidates will finish, and I'm pretty sure that Colt and Tebow will end up 4th and 5th.

Without any doubt I think it should be Suh. I think he is most deserving of it. That said I'm sure he will not win.

I've got a feeling it will be Ingram cause of his big game against the Gators.

How is Suh more deserving than Gerhart/Ingram? Because he had 4 sacks against Texas?

I think Ingram wins it. I'd like to see Suh win it.

Who do you guys think will win it next year? Ingram will most likely have another great year but Alabama's defense won't be as good. They will depend on the offense much more next year.

I'd think Terrelle Pryor would be in the mix. Jacory Harris maybe?

He is a more dominating player...though both of the others were good in their own right.

If ingram wins i doubt he wins it again unless he is way above anyone else. But if either Suh or gerhart win it, he will be the hands down favorite going into next year.

other people that will be in the mix next year with good years i think will be pryor, barkley, landry jones, garret gilbert and i think the TCU qb isnt a senior so him also

Landry Jones may not start for OU. If Murray comes back and there's a new OC at OU there's a chance he wins it.

I would not rule out Case Keenum from the U of H

Probably not. Guys from non-BCS major conference schools don't usually even make the New York invite list.

The only one I can think of in the past 8 years was Colt Brennan in 2007, and he ended up a distant 3rd. And Colt was a record-setting QB.

Case Keenum would have to have a legendary season, and even then he probably would lose out to a bigger name guy.

I think it depends on the season he has Ware got it when he as at UH. If Case can top his output of this year and lead UH to an undefeated season I think he has a real chance at it

That's a very respectable OOC schedule.

Looks like they are getting 1 from the Pac10, big 12 and SEC and Navy showed OSU they were not a push over. One thing that may help Houston is many of their defensive players will be returning Coogs had a fairly young defense only 2 starting Sr
