There's also the hidden cost of hiring more security for JJ, considering how many guys it took to get Melton off the last owner who pissed him off... All that investing in the O line is starting to make sense

As much as I like the idea of Melton, I am little concerned about giving him big money. Was he a product of Marinelli? Because before his injury this year, he was really bad.

And now he is coming off ACL surgery. Just not sure if he merits a big contract. Concerned.

I agree. Risky signing.

Prove what? He's a very good player, he's only 27, and he had knee surgery last year. Very common injury that should not be hard to come back from.

What about his off field issues. Also yes his injury sho I ld be but you never know. Why over pay. Some players never come back the same way.

Not only bring him home Jerry keep him here, tell him too stop his visits and sign on the dotted line

Jerry told Ware to go find out what the market would pay for him, he just didn't want to match it. If he told Melton's agent the same thing the playbook would look exactly like the last couple of days - make a couple of stops at teams to get their offers and then come to Dallas to beat them.

Call it a hunch, but Melton's former coach and mentor Rod Marinelli is going to pick him up at the Airport.

i think the only "real" benefit of him signing would be to ease the pain of losing a couple of "known name" players. get a "known name" back will give some a warm fuzzy.

others another reason to whine.

I'm going to pretend I didn't read "product of Marinelli" in this thread.

All scary and true.

We'll see what Will McClay is made of.

I don't care if McClay is an outstanding talent evaluator. Even the greatest talent evaluators of all time would be hard pressed to remake an entire defensive line in one draft with what is likely to be ten draft choices.

It is not even fair to expect that. Not to mention, McClay is not going to be the one with the final say on who we pick to begin with.

@fishsports: Monday or Tuesday I'm told > @RapSheet: In next few days, #Cowboys scheduled visit Henry Melton, former #Bears DT. Favorite of coaches

Depends on how enamored he is with the Seattle mystique. They may try to get him on a prove it contract like they did Bennett, and they may make him take a back seat to Bennett at 3 tech on passing downs. He will get used there but he won't have a chance at 10 sacks like he would here where the scheme is built for him.

he may choose seattle, given their chance at another superbowl, but take a little less money. seattle can get creative.

he would be the lynch pin to our off season rebuild of the defense. so far we have signed up back ups anddepth....probably draft will target DL. getting melton, will ease the pressure to have to go for Donald in the draft and opes up other possibilities.

If you were Melton, who would you rather sign with, a Superbowl champion and immediate contender, or going nowhere fast Dallas Cowboys??

Yeap test the market see what's out there

He's from the DFW area, I'm sure that has been said before. I bet he would prefer to play in TX.

Marinelli took a rib from Deacon Jones and made Henry Melton.

And Rod said, Let us make Melton in our image, after our likeness: and let him have dominion over the guards of the interior line, and over the tackles of the edges, and over the backs, and over all the turf, and over every quarterbacking thing that quarterbacketh upon the football field.
