If you were Melton, who would you rather sign with, a Superbowl champion and immediate contender, or going nowhere fast Dallas Cowboys??
If I'm Melton? I go for the cash all the way. Who cares about a Super Bowl in 15 years when I still have to pay for my expenses and my kids' universities. I take cash any day of the week.

Hatcher and Ware thought the same thing....

Exactly, they'd be dumb not to. Hometown "discount" is only when you are worth dozens of dozens of millions, maybe a Lebron, but not a guy who is looking to secure a financial future for a household and its kids.

Now we have McClain and Mincey joining the super powered Bass and Crawford to destroy the rest of the NFL? I can't wait to see the destruction.

Did I say that? I wasn't talking super stars or domination I'm talking about fresh legs and rotation

I mean, I'm pretty sure I could do it for three million instead of four.

Do the other NFC teams even have a chance?

What does that mean? I'm not saying that they are doing super star or even great defensive players. I'm talking about depth and rotation with players who can play decent football. Geez I never said they would be the answer to our prayers I'm looking at the future and solid depth guys

Man, when you put it that way, you sound just like.... every human being who ever lived. One way or another, the player invariably goes to the highest bidder unless the offer is with a complete disaster of a team.

And what if they don't? Are you saying go into the draft and take a DT and DE with the first two picks regardless of what's on the board?

Who is this DE that is going to give you what Ware has given you? Not last year which was the exception to the rule but over his career. If the Cowboys kept Ware they wouldn't be counting on a repeat of 2013. Who is the DE in round 2 that is going to be a force off the edge his rookie year?

Why do you mention Nick Hayden and Ben Bass? If these guys are quality depth, you can literally include anyone on an NFL roster to that list. Hayden was horrible last year. Bass has done nothing in this league. These guys have no pedigree and have no proven production in meaningful NFL games.

Do you have anything positive to say about anything? Is it even possible for you to hope for something brighter? More importantly can you convey anything positive to another board member. I haven't gone back to look at everyone of your posts (I don't know how although I'm sure there is a way) but I don't remember you ever being excited about being a cowboy fan or having anything positive to say about the team you are supposedly a fan of. I'm not asking you to be a polyann or constantly push sunshine but once in a while would be nice. Weren't you on here just last week saying how we couldn't keep Ware at this price? Well now he's gone... move on. You know that we couldn't afford to tie up all our resources in a declining player like Ware and we had to add pieces so what did you expect? That we would sign Ware's clone for 2 mill a year. What free agents were out there that aren't breaking down or aging and come at an affordable price? What other options are there Risen? Share your malignant wisdom with all of us?

are you saying if our 1st 2 picks of the draft are wr and cb you would be good with that because thats whats on the board? And you dont have to replace ware with someone like the ware of old. they dont grow on trees and the ones coming out of college are a unknown. no one knew ware was gonna do what he did in the nfl. this isnt gonna be done in 1 offseason. someone who thiinks they are as smart as you think you are should know that.

What is going to happen is Seattle or Minnesota is going to slide a nice contract offer to Melton and his agent. The GM is going to say this offer is only good unless you leave this room without signing it.No one wants their offer to be able to be shopped around competed against. Melton will look it over and will sign the contract. Its going to be a take it or leave it deal.

Melton has already left Minnesota without a deal and is on his way to Seattle. I doubt he'll sign anywhere until he also visits Dallas. The Cowboys are going to have to push Melton's Texas roots and familiarity with Rod Marinelli VERY hard to him if there's more money to be had with the Vikings or Seahawks.

Yes. If somehow Watkins fell to 16 and Dennard to our 2nd round pick, by all means, take them.

Thanks for the lesson. My education tells me that if you lose a player like Ware's production, either by decline due to age or cap casualty, you are less talented until you can replace that player. If the goal is to win now odds are Ware will be much more effective than any rookie DE not named Clowney.

Well didn't Michael Bennett sign for less than the market price for a passrusher like him? People say that there is no such thing as a hometown discount. We may not have one but I can assure you teams like Denver, Seattle, San Fran, and New England have an advantage in signing FAs because they have a culture that is conducive to winning. We certainly don't have that advantage so we tend to overpay for FAs.

so if its not watkins and dennard but another wr and cb you wouldnt? so if their big board doesnt line up with your big board theirs is wrong? and your welcome for the lesson. my education tells me that it doesnt have to be done with one guy, it tells me that many teams do it with multiple guys just not 1 guy. my education tells me having one guy hasnt helped us in the past. it also tells me it would be great to replace that guy in one draft but sometimes its just not there. it also tells me that until they are drafted and on the field its hard to say if we have that replacement or not. my education also tells me before you make a smart *** comment like you usually do ill go ahead and comment on the 2 guys we signed already. they arent here replace ware and haich produciton. great chance they wont even start. they are depth and rotational guys. btw ive never seen you give ideas of what you would like to do in fa. in fact the only thing ive seen you really say besides bash everything they do is build from inside out, i see you bash every move but never seen what you would have liked us to do in fa. what players? how much money for them players?

If he is considering a 1 year contract to prove that he has recovered from injury, he would probably increase his value the most by going to a Super Bowl contender.
