I entirely expect to find Henson in the 'Time-Out Chair' later today.

Is it me, or has Parcells entirely mis-handled this kid.

Forget the ability or pedigree or unrealistic expectations, it just seems to me that Parcells has never missed an opportunity to hold this kid's head underwater.

1) Pulled at halftime of Chicago game.

2) Zero garbage-time last year (or the previous) when we clearly were out of the play-off picture.

3) No Henson play-time in either of our first preseason games this year.

4) Negative comments about ability and nervousness during the action - which were made publicly in press conferences.

Anyone heard anything negative about Romo over the last 3 years?

Got anything on that?

Got anything at all?

Got MILK?

I have a neighbor that collects rocks. He polishes them up for his collection. He says to me when your out rock hunting for the right rock to polish up for your collection and you mistakenly pick up a chunk of dog poo, you discard it.

I'm certain this is a joke.

Remember, you heard it here first.:D

I really hope it isn't but stranger things have happened.

I just got a strange feeling when he was being mysterious. If there was a trade brewing why mention anything?

It would have to be that there is a trade being completed -- I doubt Bill would say anything otherwise.

Yep.

That is why he said "I dont want to comment further as there are still some moving parts".

I will be curious to hear the teams thinking on this, .. was it Henson or the team's idea.

I can't think that he is not good enough to be 3rd string. He will continue to improve as he picks up more experience. He could be 3rd string.

But since he is gone, I am anxious to see who we put in for the 3rd QB.

Going with only two scares me.

It has to be a combination. Has to.

We wouldn't go trading a player away that our coaching staff believes will be a top-notch starter in this league. We simply wouldn't do it.

And we'd likely be content with keeping him around as third-string if he were fine with it, since, as you said, he has to be better than Matt Baker -- now and on down the road.

But our seeming willingness to trade him indicates, to me, that we are no longer encouraged by his potential at this level.

So this now plays into Romos hands for getting his extention done, also, I don't understand why Parcells would anounce this before a trade would be completed? Who ever we were working on a trade with would now have more leverage.
Could it be something else? Asking questions, need some answers...

I'd love to hear exactly what some people think a QB who cannot even make it as your backup will fetch in trade.

There was no contract situation. No controversy. He just didn't get the job done.

So what exactly does a player like that have in terms of marketability?

I am intrigued to see what some think.

Henson for Bailey and Portis seems fair. :)

.. or that the rumors of his trade request/demand are true and Parcells doesn't want to take that from a third string player.

Guess all those folks with the "he has no trade value" spew are wrong.

I'll own up to being in that group. If we get a 7th rounder though I wasn't off by much- I just felt the market for Henson would not be there. And I said that not because I think he's without talent, just because he really hasn't developed and he's still pretty much a project. But QB is the hardest position to fill so I guess it shouldn't surprise me too much someone wants to take a flier. I really hope whoever does draws an ace (unless it's Philly). Henson seems like a nice young man.

But one thing I did predict that still may come to pass is us going with 2 QB's. I didn't get many agreeing with me on that one and I still may be wrong. But it's looking more likely now, isn't it?

Good questions, but you've changed the subject from your earlier post. Clearly looks like something forced this move.

How can you say that?

He's had a chance to compete in most every practice since he's gotten here. He's just been beaten out for the backup job, the starting job, and the quarterback-of-the-future label.

These coaches have seen him every day in practice. And the media has seen him every day at camp. Yet you don't hear many people saying he's been treated unfairly or is lower on the depth chart than his performances in practice would justify.

Apparantely my sarcasm is not showing today? I'm just parroting what alot of posters have said about Henson not getting a chance here in Dallas.

I agree with you, he got beat out, move on...that's all the team can do now...

That's a good question. Only thing I could think of is the agreement has been made and maybe the paperwork is just in the process of being filed.

That, or we've found a team that wants him so bad we're not afraid to announce he won't be here this season. Heck, Jerry made that announcement last week by saying he wouldn't be surprised to see him start elsewhere. I'm sure teams already knew our intentions even before Parcells' statement.

Perhaps there's a team that wants him and feels it must trade for him in order to make it happen.

If you call yourself a rock collector, and you are still occasionally picking up dog poo, THAT is your problem.

I agree. Romo is the better quarterback and has proved he is the backup for now, maybe the starter after Bledsoe retires. I just hope we can con some team into giving up a first day pick for him.

Legitimate concerns, I agree.

Sometimes those physical limitations may not be as apparent in the preseason as they will be in the regular season.

As I said the other day, we won't know on Romo until he actually starts a regular season game. And even then, that will be just "one game", good or bad.

It doesn't matter if he's throwing for 500 yards a game in the preseason. It will always be "just the preseason." And rightfully so. He's shown so many encouraging signs of improvement, but we don't have enough information to make a final grade. Not even close.

I totally concur Dale. After all how many young rookie QBs look wonderful in the pre-season only to unravel once defenses start game planning and actually try and confuse the QB and disguise what they are doing? It happens year after year after year. That's why it's difficult for me to gush over any Qb for pre-season play.

Also, you have to see a QB perform over the course of a lengthy period of time before you know what they really are because teams learn their strengths and weaknesses and start defending them differently.

Even Q looked good in several games. I remember Jaws and the Monday night Countdown crew gushing about him early in the 2003 season and it was really all smoke and mirrors.

I just don't want us to stop the search. Look at NE drafting Brady when they had Bledose and drafting Cassel when they have Brady and Atlanta drafting Schaub when they have Vick. That's what I want us to do, which we should have been doing since Aikman started aging.

More on Henson

By Jean-Jacques Taylor
The Drew Henson experiment is over.
“Drew Henson is not going to be on roster this year,” coach Bill Parcells said Wednesday.
“I just didn’t see enough. We tried very diligently with this guy."
Henson, signed three years ago, was supposed to eventually be the Cowboys quarterback of the future. But he started only one game – Thanksgiving Day against Chicago in 2003 – and was benched at halftime.
Tony Romo distanced himself from Henson last year, claiming the backup job. And Romo has been even more impressive in training camp and preseason games the past month as Henson fell more out of favor.
In the past two weeks, Henson lost practice repetitions to undrafted free agent Matt Baker. Henson did not play in either of the Cowboys’ first two preseason games.
He will count about $3 million against the club’s salary cap, though he’s no longer on the team.
“I don’t keep players that I don’t think can play for us,” Parcells said.
