The Cowboys will listen to offers for Tony Romo, sources said, once owner Jerry Jones has his meeting with the Pro Bowl quarterback. Romo prefers to be moved to a contending team -- specifically, the Texans, Cardinals, Broncos and Chiefs. The Bills also have significant interest in Romo, team and league sources said, though they realize that it might be a tough sell. The Bills have not given up hope on retaining Tyrod Taylor on a lesser contract, too, though that may be wishful thinking on their part at this point.

Romo's market will be robust as well. The Chiefs have to make a determination on whether he, or any other option, would give them a better opportunity to win a Super Bowl than Alex Smith does. Smith has already played out the guaranteed portion of his contract. If so, Smith would be a trade-worthy commodity as well. While some reported the Cowboys may just let Romo walk, the demand for him should be such that Jerry Jones gets a strong return on his investment. Some GMs opined that the Cowboys would get a second-round pick, plus potentially another high pick based on Romo's playing time (injuries have dogged him in recent years).

The Texans and Broncos don't seem to be interested and I can't see KC dumping Alex Smith for Romo after he just led the Chiefs to a 12-4 record and has the same 2-4 playoff record as Romo. Buffalo wouldn't be a great landing spot for Romo, they just had a 7-9 season and will have a new HC. No new HC is going to want to start their tenure with an aging, injury prone QB who has a fat contract and isn't likely to stay healthy the entire season. In my opinion AZ is the best fit if Palmer retires or the Cards decide to move on, if they feel they could get Romo. AZ is very close, they just need an efficient QB and Romo would be an upgrade over Palmer who's been inconsistent and appears to be on the decline.

For a second I thought the thread title was

and I got excited that the NFL and NASA were partnering up for some kind of event.

Romo is twice the QB Alex Smith is, and even KC knows it

Romo is better than Alex Smith but he's almost 5 years older and he can't stay healthy, plus he has a big contract. He also has the same 2-4 playoff record as Smith. Alex Smith is a bus driver who isn't nearly as productive as Romo but he's more mobile and a very good runner. He doesn't turn the ball over near as much as Romo. Smith had a pretty solid, efficient season leading the Chiefs to a 12-4 record and I just don't see them thinking Romo is the QB to get them over the hump when he hasn't gotten some Cowboys teams that were better than KC over the hump. Going with a QB that will certainly be more productive but will turn the ball over a lot more and can't use his legs to scramble isn't going to be the answer.

2nd and potentially a high conditional pick? Yes please

We could really upgrade the team and defense with an extra second round pick this year, supposing we don't blow them on druggies or injuries like we usually do with our second round picks.
I have a feeling our extra second would almost assuredly be used to take jake butt. He's a TE AND has a major knee injury. Total lock for us.

I'd take Smith as a backup in a heartbeat!

He would be great in our offense as a backup but he'll be starting for KC next season. The Chiefs aren't going to release him and bank on Romo staying healthy and not turning the ball over 3 times as much as Smith does. You won't find many QBs in the league that have thrown fewer picks than Alex Smith the past 6 years. His drawback is his lack of production but he's MUCH more mistake free than Romo. I could see KC winning a SB with Alex Smith if they can build a better defense that ranked 24th this season. The Cowboys defense ranked 10 spots higher than KC's.

No one can talk to him yet but teams can say whether they might be interested in him if he becomes available.
