Now BSPN is saying "The Chiefs are TARGETING Shanahan to be HC".

Maybe Jerry has something up his sleeve, doubt it though.

Wow! I mean, the Chiefs haven't been winning, it's true, but that was a very bad football team he started with.

Well, I'd think about him as a HC. He might be a real good coach for a young team who needs discipline.

Didnt he have about 45:D draft picks one year???

If he never is a head coach its too soon. I like him but not for HC.

Actually the Chiefs are a very intriguing team. Lots of raw, young talent, and a top 5 pick. Thigpen looks like a young Rich Gannon. If Shannahan could harness his talents, he could have a very nice keeper.

Shannahan's philsophy fits very nice with that team.

Well, it's about as opposite the situation as you could get from here. That includes talent. However, like was said above, you have a good fan base, good ownership who will let you do what you feel needs to be done, and most likely he'll have plenty of time to get it turned around.

I don't see KC firing Shanahan anytime soon even if they suck the next couple of years.

And Scott Pioli picking the personnel and running the organization over Jerry Jones.

Kinda a no brainer.

1. Have Jerry say that we hired Shanahan earlier today to 'our staff' and the Chiefs are colluding with someone under contract and didn't interview a minority.
2. ????
3. Profit! (3rd overall pick)

Shanahan isn’t a candidate in Kansas City

Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Kansas City Chiefs, Mike Shanahan

Despite rampant reports that the Chiefs are negotiating with former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan to replace Herm Edwards, they are not, sources said Friday.

The Chiefs never have made any contact with Shanahan — never. And there have been no contract negotiations.

So unless people I have known for years are blatantly lying to me, Shanahan will not be the next coach of the Chiefs. It’s not happening. People can keep talking as if it is, but it’s not. Shanahan will not be the coach of the Chiefs in 2009.

Not really. KC is one the best franchises in the league...and they have a very bright future. They loaded up in the draft last year and have plenty more coming this year. Great ownership and fabulous fans too. As I stated earlier, that job has more to offer than almost any other in the league. You forget that MOST top coaches want no part of being HC under Jerry. I was shocked that Parcells took the gig.

Quick.

Someone inform Pioli that since the Chiefs do not have the same smaller quicker linemen Shanahan had in Denver that it would be a bad idea for him to take the job.

Actually the line is a work in progress. Oddley enough, the three youngest members of the line happen to the be lightest: LT Alberts = 316 lbs, C Rudy Niswanger = 300 lbs, and LG Adrian Jones = 295 Lbs. The other two starters are, pretty much, journeymen in their 30's and are heavier. They're also in a rebuilding mode, so there's no long term contracts, which means they can bring in just about whomever they want.

The guy who truly doesn't fit is Larry Johnson, but I think they were going to get rid of him this year anyways.

Cowher would be yet another coup.

What is funny is that both teams in the Super Bowl this year having definite ties and he used to coach there. It is a natural fit.

It is still irrelevant.

I strongly doubt Shanahan is examining his potential teams and ruling them out based off their offensive lines.

Now, Jerry Jones might do that. But that is another foolish train of thought entirely.

Jones ruled it out because he's not going to admit he goofed on Wade and HC-In-Waiting Garrett. Period.

Its going to really suck if Shanny signs in KC. Another wasted year, and another option gone for 2010 when Jerry finally has no choice.

Bleh.

I can back that up too. I went to see my Cowboys in 1989 at Arrowhead Stadium when I was going to college. Steve Walsh was the starting QB ( Troy was sideline with a broken left hand ), Paul Palmer coming back to play his old team. The fans in KC were nothing but class act. Some of the nicest people I've ever met.

It may not matter soon but I'd also heard from my local sports station that the Chiefs were $45M under the cap. Plenty of muulah to play with the roster.......

I see what you're saying, but if Jerrah is doing that, know that it's not entirely a bad idea.

Shannahan's demeanor is exactly what the Cowboys are missing, but his philosophy is just about completely opposite of the talent the Cowboys have on their roster. They're not a good match unless Shannahan would be willing to change his style considerably and if he does, one has to wonder how effective he'd be then ? .

and then there's the question of Garrett. What do you with him and the 9 million dollars he has left on his contract ? Getting rid of Pillsbury is not a huge problem because he has only 1 year left, but Garrett is a different story.

and on top of that hiring, basically, a new coaching staff to accomodate Shannahan at this time ?

Doesn't make sense.
