Slay doesn't have to accept a restructure. The Eagles can just opt to do it. All a restructure would do is pay Slay more money now upfront from his base of $17 million instead of weekly paychecks when season starts.

The issue is that the Eagles already have a bunch of dummy years on his deal beyond this year, so any restructure would make those void years even worse.
I was responding to was the post that the Eagles were shopping Slay....I said I thought it was him wanting the trade (to get his signing bonus in his bank account), whereas the Eagles want him to stay so they can restructure his Basic Salary into the Void years.....and give them some CAP room for a 2024 challenge.

I don't think the Eagles necessarily want to restructure him (simple restructure). He already has three void years, two over $5 million and one over $3 million. Converting part of his base salary to bonus money just makes those void years even worse.

Slay was on a podcast and said he didn't ask to be traded. Philly just said go out there and see if you can find a trade partner.

Depends, the Eagles don't need Slay's permission to simply restructure a deal. A simple restructure is just a cap accounting trick. In that sense a restructure still means Slay gets his $17 million owed this year just the timing of the payment is different.

For all intents and purposes, when you see "restructure" reported in the news, it's a simple restructure. A maximum restructure if often just called an extension. The Eagles likely won't do a basic restructure because the void years are already high. And I suspect them letting him look for a trade partner is, in part, a way to see what the market might dictate in terms of an extension. Teams looking to acquire him are likely going to want to sign him to an extension.

Curious if it's no so much accept a restructure but last thing they want to do is restructure and he still pouts for a trade or a new deal, they just built up dead cap for a disgruntled player.

According to Slay, he didn't ask for a trade. Philly just said go out and see what's out there. As I said above he was on a podcast last week and said he never asked for a trade but understands why Roseman gave him permission and that there is no bad blood there. He understands the business side of all of this.

My guess is Slay would like to be extended and get more guaranteed money now and the Eagles just said, hey, we aren't in a position right now to do that so why don't you see what's out there via trade and if you find something, let us know.

Also missing the point when someone says I'd rather have Hankins at a lower price. Hargrave and Hankins are two totally different kind of DTs. Hankins is largely a 2 down type DT (and I like Hankins and hope he's back). Hargrave is a 3 down wrecking ball inside.

Now having said that, as much as I want to upgrade DT, Hargrave at that level of contract he's likely to get is a tough one to swallow.
Hargrave has the ability to play either DT positions, that's why he is going to get a big contract. He was one of their best players last season, will be a big loss.

Yeah but they led the league in sacks last year and sucked at stopping the run. I can’t clarify enough that I think they suck and will take a step back this year but if Davis helps out with the run that should be a plus for that line. They have the rushers.
Let's see who else they lose, both starting corners could also depart.

We got Fowler last year for 2m… smart signing. The toilets gave 22.5 annual to a 1 tech… dumber than dirt!
Fowler was ok. And we won a wild card playoff game. Is that worth repeating?

So the team that made the SB from the NFC "sucks"?

That's the Eagles looking at a win in either solution, if there is a trade partner (that will give them a high draft pick) then great if they don't he'll be restructured...if they require the CAP to continue the ALL-IN for one last season.

30 ain't the death knell you people keep claiming it is.

That being said, Hargrave at $22 million a year is kind of nutsballs.
It’s just a fact that when you hit 30 your body regresses. I can accept a 30 year old quarterback, offensive lineman and a receiver. Maybe even corner. But linebackers and defensive linemen? I’d stay away from giving big money to.
