I don't think he did. I haven't looked at the hit since watching it live but don't recall him leaving his feet with an upward trajectory in play.

The only reason why he didn't go in the air is because he got under Dez and had to go through him to go airborn. That was not a form tackle. He clearly threw his shoulder at Dez's back.

You can hit a defenseless player. You just can't make contact with their head/neck, launch, or lead with the top of your helmet.

Thanks for the clarification.
When I look at it it seems like the defender is leading with his helmet, though I'll concede that camera angle isn't completely clear.

It's crying about the refs. Period
I"m pretty sure we've talked about everything else there is to talk about this game. We've gone over how much Romo sucked, Garrett & Jones sucked, that we will have a top pick in the draft, X's and O's, we've covered it all. He asked a simple question, because we know the league or the refs don't call things evenly throughout a game, throughout the league. So had we hit a guy the same way, and received a penalty for it, then what? It's just a simple question, I know we're all grumpy, me being the most. Breathe...

He launched.
It did seem like it.

Also, somebody said he used the crown of his helmet, but I haven't reviewed it to verify.

It's not a game where the refs seemed biased or anything, but there were bad calls and non calls. On the one big run they allowed, Church was clearly being held.

They could improve the officiating with more power given to replay officials. They have the setup now with replay guys at the home office, but they limit how they use them.

I would be fine with non calls if it was consistent. Too many penalties take away from the game, IMO.

So he didn't launch? If he didn't leave both feet prior to contact, it's not launching.

I think the interception nullified Dez being a defenseless receiver.....................that would be my guess.

Is that the definition?

Illegally launching into a defenseless opponent. It is an illegal launch if a player (i) leaves both feet prior to contact to spring forward and upward into his opponent, and (ii) uses any part of his helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/‖hairline‖ parts) to initiate forcible contact against any part of his opponent’s body. Note: This does not apply to contact against a runner, unless the runner is still considered to be a defenseless player

If J.J Wilcox would have hit Vernon Davis like that we would be all for it. Hate to see any Cowboy player get hit like that but this is football.

I dont know if this is in the right thread, but i have a question for the group. That hit on Dez that split him in half, would that not be a call? I was of the understanding that you cant hit a defenseless receiver. You dont get much more defenseless then in mid air without the ball in your hands. If tyrons "leg whip" was called, how was this not?

It should have been called and the DB should have been fined. But yet again our commish is a thug who doesn't care about the Cowboys.

It seems like to me we have cry baby fans

He's asking a legit question, about a play in the game, in an open forum that people have various opinions on. You are complainig about what someone else posted and took the time to read and write several responses. Who is the true loser I ask?

But that shouldn't be the case. That rule was there to protect the players. It should not be nullified because of an INT. The INT should have stayed and the player should be called for a penalty.

Just seems the league turns a blind eye when an issue like this affects the Cowboys.

I've seen less egregious hits draw a flag.

You mean like this?

To me, it appeared the guy clearly launched and should have been given a personal foul and fined.

You don't penalize guys for that and Megatron, Dez, AJ Green and the likes will all become targets.

At the very least it should have been an unnecessary roughness call, kinda like hitting a guy that's already out of bounds...
