Holding out hope for RW

The media is looking for a story, RW is not going to give them one. To me RW is doing other things that make this offense click. RW still gets doubled. He was the reason Patrick Crayton was open for that TD in the back of the endzone on Sunday. Did you every wonder how PC got so open? It was because of RW- look at the replay. The DB had to stay down in the flats to cover Roy. That's just one play, but there are others. So he may not have the numbers we'd like to see, but he more than makes up for it IMHO.

Do we even care what he did in the regular season if he has a solid post season? I ask this because I honestly think some do. I know I could care less. The playoffs is when it matters. But are we going to have guys say "Well he played good in the post season but sucked in the regular season"? Are sure hope not. I wish the best for Roy. I want the trade to succeed. My main issue is that he hasn't been productive and is stealing snaps away from others who could help the team more. My second issue is I feel badly that this guy came here and took Mr. Jones' money and hasn't worked hard to become a better football player. He needed to be humiliated repeatedly on national TV before he began to understand how bad he was playing. Any player worth his salt would have gotten this fixed after his first miserable season here with 230 yards receiving over 10 games.

But go ahead and try to say all us "Roy haters" want him to fail so we can walk around like "big shots" and "thump our chests" and blah blah blah.

Anyhow, Roy gets one more season since Jerry was stupid enough to guarantee it anyways monetarily. I just hope we don't take too long to demote him if he hasn't turned his sorry act around.

most part the eagles were playing him man coverage with over the top help. They were indeed worried about him.

I won't pull for a guy that refuses to man up and fix what's wrong. He's probably never had to run very good routes or learn an offense like we've got...I don't really know what his problem is, but he spent most of his first season and a half denying that there was one.

What I hear from Roy now is that he realizes there's problem and is working to fix it. I WILL pull for a guy like that. Hard work deserves encouragement in my book. Only time will tell if he can succeed.

I'm not sure what guys expected when Roy came here. Has he ever been a great route runner? I'm rooting for the guy but I watched him in Detroit and yea he had some productive seasons but i'm not sure if that had more to do with Jon Kitna being in Mike Martz system or if it was Roy's talent. He's never been a great route runner. He's always dropped footballs. Its just now he's not getting as many targets so his stats have decreased. But someone saw something in Roy in Detroit and I have no idea what it was. I like him but I think Jerry thought he was getting a different player than what he got. I mean even Mike Furry managed to get 1000 yards in that offense.

I think if Roy were to make an impact in the postseason it would, for me at least, be viewed as a sign entering next season that maybe this thing can work out after all and he can be an effective No. 2 opposite Austin. One or two games of production wouldn't negate 16 weeks of pedestrian play though, I wouldn't think.

Wasn't it Roy who was the intended target at the end of the first half when he was isolated 1-on-1 with Sheldon Brown and couldn't get open quickly enough generating a miscommunication with Romo?

The guy was once an okay player with a Bozo team with a pass-happy OC and managed to put up okay numbers. Those numbers weren't much better than other nobodies like Shaun Macdonald and Mike Furrey. He then let his head get hyper-inflated with meaningless stats and thought he was all world and didn't need to work hard. He is now here and after an initial year where he did nothing, he doesn't improve his game and comes back for a second year when he does next to nothing outside of his 7 TDs (which can always be a bit of a flukey category for year-to-year). Moreover, the more we try to get him the ball, the worse our offense is. The more we try to de-emphasize him, the better we do.

Face the facts - he has been bad this year. He may be one of the 10 worst #2 WRs in the league this year when you add everything up including his inefficiencies, drops, INTs on balls thrown to him. He was fourth on this team in yards behind Austin, Witten and Crayton.

He is not playing well. Don't try to sugar-coat it. It is what it is and it is obvious to everyone.

It depends on how good he plays and in what moments of the game.

If he makes a number of great, tough catches at important times in the game then I would be much less likely to harp on his inadequacies during the regular season.

Basically, I just want him to work his *** off and become a better football player for next year. That means actually learning the playbook. That means knowing how to read the coverages on those option routes. That means working on his routes. That means working on his quickness and speed. That means working on his hands. That means studying in the film room hard on the next opponent so he knows the weaknesses and tendencies of the players he is going against.

Frankly, I don't think he can undo a lifetime of laziness. He got his money though so it all worked out in the end for him.

Strapping on my homer helmet, the one thing that gives me hope is this ... I agree that he has built a career based largely on physical talent. I'm not saying the guy doesn't work at all, but I clearly think he doesn't put in the kind of time to master every technical detail like you hear the great ones doing. I think Austin has lapped him about seven times in this regard.

But what gives me a glimmer of hope is that somewhere inside that "I'm the all-world Roy that tore up Odessa" is a prideful guy, money be damned. You saw some of that come out when he talked about his family members dogging him, and you saw that in his face as he stood helplessly on the sideline while the rest of the offense was sticking daggers in the Eagles.

Again, mind you that my homer hat is on right now, but I can only hope he internalizes that feeling and uses that to have an offseason of work like he's never had before.

(Disclaimer: The only reason I fail to call him lazy is because I'm not there, knowing what's going on. I don't know that he does less than the minimal that is required, but the results tell me he's not doing a whole heckuva lot more.)

No one in FO wants to admit what happened with the Roy debacle. My best guess is Jerry panicked after the loss to Arizona with Romo's broken hand, Felix's hammy, McBriar breaks his foot, the trade deadline is approaching, TO is being doubled and Crayton isn't stepping up, Barber is being exposed as a JAG, the OL is struggling in blitz pickup without Kosier.

So what does he do - he let's Detroit rape him. He just panicked and grabbed his ankles because he thought this was his best chance to salvage the season. This is where he needs a strong GM to talk him out of the notion of bringing this lazy, underachiever who can't run routes into Jason Garrett's offense. This is where he needs a strong coach to tell him that having stars without good work ethics is not good role modeling for the team. But he doesn't have that in Dallas because he wants to be in the limelight and get all the glory for his football acumen.

Some have said Garrett wanted this trade. That may be true but I really doubt it. I also really doubt Garrett would have agreed with the price in terms of picks and dollars spent.

This was a Jerry panic move.

The outrage besides of how much we gave up for him is steaming because he's playing no where near what he's capable of playing. The guy has 7 TD's. The crap he was getting yesterday from Joe Buck is unbelievable. The media treats him like they treated T.O. except he isn't falling into the trap.

I can understand some fans overreacting and wanting us to cut him after this year. Just like Anthony Spencer or Mike Jenkins last year.

But I heard Calvin Hill on the radio today saying that the whole Roy Williams situation was a failure. He said he thinks we should cut him (and Martellus Bennett for that matter). 7 TD's in his first full year people...Rediculous.

OK I said we should all hope he helps the team out in some way, but don't compare him to Jenkins and Spencer. Those two are young up and coming players with 3 or less years of experience. Roy is about to be 28 years old. If he is gone next year I won't shed a tear and it would'nt be "stupid". If we cut Spencer or Jenkins after last year it would've been one of the dumbest moves in Cowboy history.

I have hope that Williams will turn it around. It'd be wise to focus on helping him do this during the offseason and preseason.
