I know hiring young guys as HC has become popular, but I think experience is still very important.
The reason they've gone young is they want HC's that connect to the QB. Most teams will pay that one player more in one season than the HC in 4.

The players shifted from the tail to the dog several years ago and that's why HC's like Parcells and Johnson hung it up.

The majority of these teams are owned by businessmen that have other businesses and the ranking goes according to salary and most HC's do not make the top 10.

Does the OC make the QB or the QB make the OC?

Dak had success under Linehan, then continued with Moore.

Aikman was starting to pay well with David Shula as OC. But it was Norv Turner that really got that offense going. Or was it that everything just came together.
This is a great question . I always go back to Landry who is only HC in NFL history to take 4 different QB’s with same franchise to at least a championship game.

And we had some really good QB’s and teams under Tom with Meredith, Morton, Staubach and White. But only one QB won a championship.

Norv was a great OC but he never won a championship with another QB. Coaching matters but talent takes them over the top.

And why great coaching doesn’t win it every year with every team or talent . Sometimes they have greater talent and sometimes the other team has greater talent .

I get that, but my point has more to do with picking the right assistants & knowing how best to train their players.

My apologies for saying so, but I doubt Kellen Moore is the one to improve our coaching staff. I think he lacks the toughness to handle it. I'm going to put my trust in Mike McCarthy to handle that task as adequately as humanly possible. Here's also hoping Jerry allows him to do so. ;)

Nope, you do not have the power to end conversations but you do have the option not to participate in threads you don't like.
I have the power to say what I want to say, when I want to say it just like everybody else on this forum. Last I checked, the words "conversation over" aren't against the rules.

And for the record, I already know the options I have, so I will continue to choose those options accordingly. Thanks for your concern.

Yep, thats true.
And then Joe Gibbs won a SB with 3 different QBs too.

I thought this would have helped Gibbs's public perception over the years as one of the best HCs ever after being the only one to accomplish this.

Guess a lot of people forget about this fact when discussing all time great coaches.

It won't surprise me one bit if Kellen goes on to big time success. Honestly, Justin Herbert is a much better fit for the kind of QB Kellen needs. And I also believe that McCarthy will be better fit for Dak as well. Win-win scenario.

One thing we are going to see often this season are the comparisons with McCarthy and Moore and their respective QB's.

And Moore detractors, say what you will, Prescott had his best years with Moore as his OC. Now, he will have one of the top 5 young guns and all the coverage he will need because of his past ties with the Cowboys and the media is chomping at the bit to start the comparisons. That, is going to be the top Cowboys story this season and it is made to order for ESPN and NFLN.

There are two young guns coming up in this draft and owners and GM's will be looking to get a HC-QB marriage like Reid-Mahomes and Pederson-Lawrence because those two QB's are not where they are without those two HC's. No HC allows a QB to be himself more than Reid.

The Chargers could be faced with either promoting Moore to HC or watching him leave. Staley was supposed to be the connection to Herbert but it may be Moore that shines with him.

I know a lot blame Moore and do not like his style but he is the future of the NFL because it is all about the QB and what HC's can best connect with them are going to be in high demand. Look how much DEN just paid Payton, all based on his connection to Brees.
I didn't think it was possible that Kellen could get a HC job till I saw the Miami Dolphin's Head Coach Mike McDaniel ...ijustsmokedsomeodorlessweedenergy.

McDaniels and Kellen have a Joe Gibbs genius brainiac vibe. I hope Kellen figures out his leadership style. Mike came up through the ranks as an intern

Moore's problem is he's not intelligent enough to call the RIGHT plays at the RIGHT times of the game.

He lacks situational awareness.

The season before last the defense was absolutely culpable in the loss. They gave up nearly 250 yds rushing. You can't blame Kellen or Dak for that. Dak had a bad game last year vs the 49ers. Let's see how he bounces back.
Offense was still part of that loss just like the gb one but was for sure mainly on the defense vs the rams.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s on the hot seat. He’s a young coach and the Chargers improved over his first season and made the playoffs. However, they did blow a 27-0 lead. If they were to have a rough season and miss the playoffs, then it’s possible he could get fired. I think McCarthy’s seat is hotter than Staley’s. Any step back from last season could be the end for McCarthy.
improved by 1 game. his two seasons are marred by his flubbing of the raiders game and the epic playoff collapse. definitely on the hot seat. a wet behind the ears defrndive coach with a stud qb isn’t the recipe
