And even if one excepts that Parcells is to blame, ludicrous as it is, Jerry should shoulder some responsibility for hiring him. I actually give Jerry much credit for that hire, it rejuvenated the team and we still benefit today. Some small part of me thinks that after this Garrett experiment ends, another coach of Parcells caliber will be brought in to pick up the pieces and restore some glimmer to the star.

Seriously, what good coach would want to come here and be JJ's puppet? The problem with Jerry is he doesn't give full control to the coach and is always undermining them just like he did in the draft.

Where did I say "No" part? There you go putting words in people's mouth again. With that said, he played a very small role in us winning superbowls and has played a massive egotistical role in us being unsuccessful the last 17 years. He should fire himself. He is a horrible owner and even worse GM.

You jumped into it by saying and "jerry had everything to do with winning 3 SB" so then didn't you put words in my mouth? Never once claimed Jerry has done anything alone

As I said earlier Jerry is GM he has to take the heat that comes with it, only issue I have with some of the critics is how they can sit there and blast Jerry for a bad move and then credit others for any good move or player acquisition. BP sure as hell did not have full say yet now it was BP who turned it around? We had the talent to win the division 2 times under Wade so then the players where there yet it was Jerry fault they lost?

Be critical of Jerry I have no issue with it, it is the lack of fairness that I have issue with. As I mentioned earlier in the thread if I was the owner and Jerry was my GM I would have fired him a while back but I'm not hypocritical enough to blast Jerry for things I disagree with and then hand credit to others on things I do agree with.

so the fans should not blame the teams problems on the person who is owner and GM? the person who himself admit that he makes all the decisions and should be held accountable? the fans should not hold him accountable?

who should we blame? the janitor?

jerry is clearly the worst GM in the league because if he got fired today, he would have no shot at any other GM job in the NFL

even the worst of the worst NFL team is competent enough to not hire this idiot as their GM

You are right, the buck stops at Jerry Jones. If you want to boil it all down to a single person to blame, then Jerry is your man. But I'm afraid it's not that simple. There is a plethora of reasons the Cowboys are in this slump. Replacing the GM won't make the other issues go away... but it's a good start. :bang2:

I like going to the games with my aging father, and the cost is really not a big deal for me. If you want the truth. Not trying to sound arrogant.

Jerry's been a Cowboys fan since 1989. I've been since 1972.

And I've contributed more to the team's success than he has. Sadly.

I appreciate where your going with this and unfortunately I don't think they get the history and all that the Cowboys were at one point b4 Jerry Jones ever stepped in North Texas. You like me cannot turn our backs on The Star because of family experiences with this team which carry's on from generations. Rooting for this team was a religion and a privledge because you respected the organization as a whole since they we're in it to win at all costs representing Texas football as what other teams strived to emmulate.
Presently we have a prima donna GM who loves his team but loves himself much more and by this his antics are truly taking away what was once a respected football organization down to a mediocre and sometimes laughable football team. His marketing prowless as awesome as it is has commercialized this team as a circus, not a football team. That was ok for a little while because we had grace in those losing years however after a certain amount of time that spirit to be the best is now consistently being underminded by one man who has can build the best stadium in the world but hasn't realized $$ cannot by the best team. Football minds have to play a significant role in that and he cannot delegate that job out of his own ego. And that is a fact by his own words about firing GM Jerry.
It's like this. You love your country and will never turn your back on it, but you don't have to like the president and his policies if your country is turning 3rd world right in front of your eyes.

The Cowboys are the football team. I think many great coaches would take a swing at this team even with Jerry, Parcells did. Parcells had some authority too. Look after the Campo debacle, Jerry had to make a change. I think when we fall backwards this season, which sadly I think will happen, Jerry again will be faced with a major turning point. Does he keep riding Garrett who already appears to have lost power ? Does he bring in someone who knows football ? I think on some level Jerry wants to win, and I hope he will realize he doesn't know how to do it, he needs a Jimmy, or Parcells to run things.

but that is the point

it will

the owner hires the GM
the GM hires the pro-personnel people (n this case his equally incompetent son) who hire the scouts
the GM hires the HC who picks the OC/DC, position coaches

think about it...

if our GM gets fired he will not get another job as GM
if our director of pro-personnel gets fired he will not get another job as that in the NFL
if our HC gets fitred he will not get another job as HC in the NFL

ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE IN POSITION ONLY BECAUSE JERRY IS THE OWNER AND GM

and not one of them is qualified to do the job they are doing

so, saying, jerry is the major and prohibitive reason this franchise has struggled and is struggling is absolutely dead on accurate

Jerry hasn't realized he needs help for 17 years now at GM. He can't get out of the way, he is just too egotistical to do so. He will be the GM until he gets badly sick or dies. Neither of which do I wish on him, but just being honest. It is clear as day that he is an egomaniac. My biggest fear is that once he is gone, his idiotic son will take over and claim the GM/Owner role. I guess all we can do is hope for change.

The reason why I blame Bill Parcells:

- Was against drafting a QB high, insisted on bringing in low tread QBs (Testaverde, Bledsoe)

And you know this how? So Jerry can over-rule BP on Ware but can't do it for a franchise QB. You make it sound like a HOF HC doesn't know the value of a franchise QB. Here's news for you, he drafted a QB in every one of his stops. And who's to say that Jones didn't ask BP to try to work with QC who the team just spent a second round pick on and invested money?

He also accepted the trade for Henson. If there was a QB worthy of our 1st round pick, I think we would have done it. The reality is that the team was so deficient of talent when BP came here you had to start from scratch to rebuild it.

Once again, you make these assertions with no basis or evidence to back them up.

He drove Zimmer out. And yes he did drive Sean Payton out.

Now you throw Zimmer in the mix? You do realize Zimmer was one of the few coaches BP kept on the staff and spoke openly of liking him, especially given the fact that Zimmer was the son of a coach.

But I asked you before and I'll ask you again, can you provide me with anything that backs up your assertion? Maybe a link to an article that hinted at friction between BP, Payton and/or Zimmer?

I'm still waiting.......

I think you nailed it GB, and more and more it is apparent that Jerry really does try to give his coaches what they want. Parcells wanted the 3-4, Testaverde, Bledsoe, Spears, Carpenter, et al.

Parcells is great, but he didn't do great here.

Parcells put us into a position rather than fix up the defense that we should completely convert our scheme to a 3-4. Something the scouts were not adept to, something Zimmer was not adept to. He drove Zimmer out. And yes he did drive Sean Payton out. He stripped him of playing call duties. And he left for greener pastures (How green? The saints... which was a garbage franchise before Payton showed up).

This couldnt be more inaccurate. I dont believe Sean Payton ever had play calling duties with the Cowboys. He was instumental in developing the offensive game plan, but I'm pretty sure Parcells had final say on the play call. Perhaps, Payton did call the plays his last season here, but he was never stripped of those duties.

Furthermore, Sean Payton was stripped of play calling duties by the great Jim Fassel when both were with the NY Giants. Parcells hiring of Payton resurrected his career, for which I'm sure Payton is eternally grateful and why I'm certain Payton considers Parcells his friend and mentor. If their relationship was strained, why then would Payton ask Parcells to take over tha Saints last season when SP was suspended?

I agree and I saw Wade get guys he wanted. Between BP and Wade the team made post season 4 times winning the NFC East 2 times. So if Jerry was not helping bring in talent then how is we made it to that point? I don't want Jerry involved in coaching that is the job of the HC but when people claim we have no talent that is not true we made post season any failure on the field resides with players and coaches. Or Jerry did not want OL? BP drafted OL player that busted so it that Jerry pick or BP pick or the organization?

I think Jerry deserves heat from fans I will not deny that but some of the good things that have taken place should also be given credit to Jones.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/09/sports/football/09payton.html?_r=0

Mike Zimmer was a 4-3 coach, he was running Parcell's defense, but when Parcells left we had to bring in Phillips who could continue to implement the 3-4. This resulted in Zimmer being let go. We brought in Brian Stewart as the next defacto defensive coordinator. Stewart got fired shortly later because the defense was not performing. Eventually Phillips would be fired as well, and Garrett became head coach. Not wanting to call the 3-4 a failure, we hired Rob Ryan... two years with his complex defense, and we still weren't established as a dominate defense.

Finally Jerry said enough and we hired Kiffin and Marinelli.

You can certainly blame Jerry for the failings of Parcells and his decisions because he hired him, but most people would have said it was a rational move. The move to the 3-4, also rational given the nfl trend, and the head coach we had. Just because you make a rational move doesn't mean the results will be positive, and they haven't.

What people do though is blame him for the poor results, which I think are a bit unfair. As owner and GM his job is to make rational moves. Which I think for the most part he has made.

The move I have disliked the most, because it wasn't rational was hiring Jason Garrett in the first place. We didn't need an OJT offensive coordinator or head coach. Jason Garrett has certainly cost us some playoff berths. Of all the moves Jerry has made, I think that has been the worst and most irrational.

and that is exactly who wade was.... a puppet HC

I agree then another NFC east title but he was a puppet. :lmao2:

Losing the team the way he did is what cost Wade. He is a damn fine defensive coach but maybe not hard enough on players as a HC but puppet is not something I would call Wade.

Man has been in the league a long time and had no problem getting hired after the Cowboys.

Wade Phillips is a good football coach. He just isn't a good head coach. When a team needs that stern, forceful leader, Wade could never be that guy.

Those of us who are critical of Jerry, realize that he's not going anywhere. We know he has the right to make any move he wants to.When he does screw up though,we have a right to hammer him. It's not like this guy has made a couple of mistakes. We're talking about years and years of countless mistakes. For other people to say if you don't like it go find another team to root for,is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The only reason some of us complain about the guy,is because we love this franchise so much, and we're tired of all the mistakes. Some of you may choose to turn a blind eye.Sorry I can't do that.I care to much.

Is this the 2,000th thread about Jerry Jones that there has been on CowboysZone?

I'm not kidding, this is a legit question.
