DC what i would do when columbo comes back, i would let columbo come in for critical 3rd down and one, use him some on downs like that when you want to run; or i would put columbo as the outside TE blocking in run blocking on certain plays till columbo gets his feet back underneath him

O-linemen are not like running backs that can be interchanged like that. A good line needs to have continuity to be most effective.

Holy, Doug Free

I realize Felix Jones will get the credit for the 49-yard touchdown, out-sprinting the Eagles defense to the end zone to give the Cowboys a 24-0 lead.

But did you see right tackle Doug Free?

He was 30 yards down the field, blocking cornerback Sheldon Brown for the final springing block. How unreal is that? A 300-pounder that far down the field? And Free got a lot of love from his teammates on the bench.

Wow.

And wow about how much of a butt-kicking this is. I didn't see this coming. I can't imagine many did.

Free is a beast. That is all.

Unreal: If you watch the video, he gets a hand on Sheldon Brown at the 35 or so and doesn't STOP forcing him down the field until almost the 5 yard line.

After re-watching the play a couple times all I can say is  to Free.
That has to be the poster play, the rallying cry for this T E A M.
Give 110% every down Cowboys and the results will take care of the rest.

I thought the same exact thing.
If you look at that replay of Felix's td run when they showed the replay from behind the line of scrimmage-when Felix caught the pitch Free was already at the second level(linebacker level) and was running like he knew Felix would bust it for a long run. It was like he knew it before it happened. Amazing play and a great athletic play for an O-lineman.

Just in case you didn't get to read the words of others on Free's play last night (specifically Jerry's & Jason's comments)..

ARLINGTON — Deon Anderson watched as Felix Jones dashed toward the end zone in the third quarter of the Cowboys’ 24-0 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday and couldn’t believe his eyes.

Anderson, the Cowboys fullback, looked at a scene straight out of “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” as the hyper-quick Jones followed a 6-6, 313-pound tackle into the end zone.

Doug Free, who was starting his sixth game in place of the injured Marc Columbo, had romped 49 yards down the field, had somehow gotten in front of Jones and had covered Eagles’ defensive back Sheldon Brown to the point where it was hard to see him. <----- BEAST

Brown understands how the sun feels during a total eclipse.

It was a remarkable hustle play by Free, a fourth-round pick from Northern Illinois in 2007, and one that was the buzz of the locker room after the game.

“I thought that Doug had either slimmed down or he’s been working on his 40 [yard dash] time,” Anderson said. “But that’s what you expect of Doug because he hustles every day in practice so whatever he does in practice carries over to the game. It was unexpected but expected at the same time.”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was watching from his suite and he was gushing about the play after the game.

“You saw big No. 68 [Free],” Jones said. “That is really notable. To see that 68 out in front of Felix Jones down there clearing him in for a touchdown. There’s a young player that we didn’t know when we started if he was going to evolve into a player. I was concerned because we hadn’t seen him. He gets his opportunity, he steps up and is really playing well for us.

Tight end Jason Witten said the play epitomized what the Cowboys have attempted to build this season.

“That just kind of paints a picture for what this team’s about,” Witten said. “He’s a backup, doesn’t play much, comes in there and he’s on the opposite side of the field, running down and making a touchdown block for Felix.

“Those are the plays. You don’t see it on sports center, but those are the plays that you gotta make. It was an unbelievable play by Doug and that’s the way our team’s played all year.”

If that doesn't show the difference in this team nothing does.

When I watched the play I was really impressed with the effort.
I'm sure The team will show appreciation but it should be a highlight some where by the mediots, oh wait it's the Cowboys.

GREAT EFFORT AND PLAY,

CUDOS MR. FREE:bow:

That was impressive, the guy never quit on the play and because of that Felix was able to get into the endzone. Each week I'm more impressed with the play of Free. Keep up the good work

Witten loves him some free. On his TD, Witten gives Free the ball to spike. Free looked a bit befuddled at first, Wit had to show him what to do, and Free just chucks the ball into the ground, not even in the endzone. :laugh2:

I remember commenting about this blocking in the pre-season, except it was Columbo going across the field. Crayton would have scored on one end around if Columbo hadn't been tripped at the line.

It's nice to have RTs that can do it.

I thought about that play too. :starspin
