How Do the Eagles Have This Much Cap Space?

I just read that Josh Sweat has restructured his contract despite higher offers from other teams? Something isn't right. We can't afford players and Howie signs whoever he wants?

We could do the same. We choose not to.

Dak - restructure saves $22m, extension saves $26m
Tank - restructure $4.3m, ext $7m
CD - extension 13.5m
Diggs - res $7.9m
Steele - res $4.9m
Wilson - res $2.9m

Cuts
Cooks - $4m, or $8m June 1- we don't use him correctly, so why keep him?
Rush - 2.25m

That's 65m to 75m in cap space made available. There is no reason we can't improve the team.

I haven’t done a deep dive into how the Eagles and Cowboys handle their cap, but I suspect that part of the issue is that the Eagles seem more likely to flip players before their deal expires. They seem to get salvage value out of their players more often than the Cowboys do.

The Cowboys could have flipped Tyron for picks last year or the year before. Instead we may or may not get a comp pick for him. We cut Gallup for nothing. We only got a 5th out of Cooper that we gave up a #1 for.

I realize that’s a small part of the big picture but it gives you an idea of what I am talking about.

I think a very big part is they dont have Stephen Jones trying to manage it.

Well for one. The person in charge of football there understands football. Has to answer for mistakes. And wasn’t handed the job by his daddy.

Yet the same culture was a disaster last year. It was far worse in Philly than Dallas.
culture is in the results over time. taking one year (actually 7 games) as a trend vs anamoly is your prerogative

They are better at the cap than us
And their QB isn't taking 60 million of it
Hurts extension is for 51m per year and Dak’s was for 40m. The fact that the Cowboys aren’t adjusting his cap number is just them being bad at managing the cap.

Culture is not results over time. Culture is the climate of the team. It's how they operate and interact. It's how they go about their business.

I'm not talking about the last 7 games. Like I said before they literally had a podcast on how bad the Culture was when they had a 10-1 record. That's well before the inevitable slide began.

The current cap responsibility attributed to Dak’s contract, which is four years at $40 million AAV, is by design. It did not have to be this way. Jerry Jones put his franchise in this situation by “borrowing cap space” from Dak’s $40 million per contract. The bill has come due. The issue is not Dak, Micah, or CeeDee. Lots of teams have a number of expensive players and are active considering (at least calling about) and signing free agents to plug holes they know they can’t fill with draft picks. Not only the Eagles. Last year at this time Philly carried $53 million in dead cap. It cost them Edmonds, Sanders, and Hargrave. If you consider that “better”, OK. Philly’s front office is no smarter than any other team’s. Every team has the same max they can spend on player salaries, and the same minimum per the CBA. Philly has whittled their dead cap down to $7 million. They have more wiggle room right now. That’s all.
Are the Eagles currently "borrowing cap space" from Hurts contract? Or any of their other big name players.

Yes, very similar, and Hurts has a no trade clause, too. Monstrous cap hit in the 5th year, but they have voidable years to mitigate it, somewhat. Philly can get out of Hurts’ contract after the 2025 season, at a high cost, but they’ve shown in the past if it’s not working, move on (Wentz).
