How does Dak Prescott compare to other great QB’s of this era?

if Dak had any pocket awareness or wasn't so terrified by pressure, the offensive line would not have looked that bad.. but go ahead blame everyone but check down charlie.

or if he didn't take forever to read the defense

He can throw the go route past 20 yards — I’m talking about throws to the outside 10-20 yards down field. That whole part of the route tree is off the table.

Dak threw 3 passes for 3, 6, and 30 yards, with the 30 yarder being a go route. Where were the intermediate throws to the sideline? I've seen some in practice footage in 2 on 2 situations but that's all I have seen.

My Bad it looked like that throw was to the sideline something you have been talking about in many posts thought you would be happy to see it . Geez it was a bit farther than you wanted and a TD to boot .

Maybe he will do something that will qualify in the next game . LOLOL

I mean it was a beautiful throw, but a throw that he has already shown he can make. If having faster receivers on the outside means we can throw those more often and as a result then defenses can't clog the middle of the field anymore, then yes, I'll be happy. So maybe that is what the strategy is going to be. But barring that, being able to attack the sidelines in that intermediate range is going to be the thing that keeps defenses from clogging the middle, and that's something that Dak hasn't shown he can consistently do.

So it wasn't a complaint of the three passes he made, but simply a reflection that we aren't seeing anything he hasn't shown he can already do.

I don't know why there is so much resistance to the fact that Dak just isn't a top 5 passer. Didn't take a 7 step drop without play action until week 14 of season 1 because his footwork wasn't ready for it; can hit Witten and Beasley in the middle of the field until the defense just clogged the middle of the field and forced balls to the outside; unable to get Dez the ball unless he ran some kind of "in" route or slant. Sure people blame Dez for that but Romo didn't have that problem getting the ball to Dez.

I wouldn't want to pay franchise money for a guy who can't throw to an outside WR 10-20 yards downfield. I can't tell yet if Dak is working to improve that part of his game or if the plan is to scheme around it now by using more 10 personnel. Either way we need a solution to defenses clogging the middle of the field.
Dak didn’t have a problem hitting Butler down the sidelines. Since you’re a football genius can you tell us all why that occurred? If I’m not mistaken. Wasn’t the Dak to Butler connection pretty efficient percentage wise? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Being the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys is perhaps the most prestigious position in all of pro sports. It is no wonder that so much pressure and scrutiny accompany the role. With such a high standard of excellence displayed for many decades at the position, expectations are high and criticism comes quickly and mercilessly. Cowboy fans are constantly at odds when it comes to their opinions about their starting QB’s. No matter how well a player performs there will always be a group of fans that will continue to be unimpressed. Dak Prescott is a particularly great example of this. After having perhaps the greatest rookie season of any QB in NFL history there were many fans still clamoring for the return of Tony Romo. When Prescott struggled last season without All Pro Tackle Tyron Smith, All Pro Running Back Ezekiel Elliott, and a poorly performing receiving corps the Dak haters showed up in full force. Now Prescott is entering his 3rd season and there is a ton of pressure on the young QB. At this point there seem to be as many doubters as believers among the Cowboy faithful. For all of you who may have some lingering doubts I would like to remind you of a simple truth. Dak Prescott is only 24 years old! People tend to forget that when they compare him to the games elite passers and they also tend to forget how those players performed in their first 2 seasons.

Take a look at Dak’s numbers compared to some of the best Quarterbacks in recent history at a similar age. Of the QB’s shown below, all of them became starters in either their 1st or 2nd season in the league and this is how they stack up over the course of their first 2 seasons as starters.

This has been told and posted over and over again for the Romo cry babies. Like I said, Dak has already proved them wrong. And he is only getting better.

I'm a huge Romo fan, but my concerns about Dak have nothing to do with that. We had a chance to go from one franchise guy to the next without gap years and we took it. I didn't like it at the time but I understood the choice.

If anything is happening with Dak's narrative it's that he put up career numbers as a rookie and some have latched onto those as saying Dak has arrived. Speaking for myself at least, I don't start threads questioning Dak or saying we need to look for another QB because Dak sucks. No, I am always responding to threads that make a claim in some way that Dak is as good as Brady, Rodgers, and Brees.

The reality is that Dak was boosted by an incredible rushing attack year 1 and defenses not being sure how to take away what Dak does well. Last year teams clogged the middle and suddenly the conversation was that Witten, Beasley, and Dez had all regressed and couldn't run routes.

Watch offenses other than ours the last 2 years and you'll see a couple of throws a game when the WR has to drag their feet to catch the ball in bounds. You just don't see Dak make that throw and yet last year it had to be open because teams were clogging the middle.

So for me I don't even need Dak to be a top 5 passer to be happy with him. He does however need to be able to throw to the sidelines 10-20 yards downfield for me to feel like he is worth franchise money, unless they have schemes that can work with defenses clogging the middle and Dak not having to make those throws.

That's all I want and I'll be a huge fan when he gets there. But for some to call people haters because they don't think Dak has arrived as a passer is ridiculous.
Finally someone has valid, unbiased points on Dak’s cons. I see what your saying and agree somewhat about the outside and sideline throws. But where I disagree is when you said Dak can’t make those throws. He can and he has made them. Albeit not frequently enough for some. I truly believe Dak didn’t have confidence in himself or the receivers and so he was afraid to take the risks. Hopefully that will change this season and we will see a more polished and confident quarterback to lead us to a championship.

“T Will numbers” are good for your 4th option on offense that includes Terrell Owens and a prime Jason Witren

Miles was an unknown UDFA that went from the 5th receiver to a 1300 yd pro bowler. When Romo missed 10 games in 2010, Miles averaged 3 catches per game and 51 yards. He had 5 td in 10 games. The games Romo finished, he averaged 6 catches for 100 yds.

That same team that beat Romo and the 13 pro bowlers, went on to defeat the 18-0 Patriots that had both the best QB ever and best WR ever. They also beat a prime Brett Favre.

Try again buddy

Twill is a good 4th option. LOL Now that about sums him up completely. And its not a compliment.

The quarterback has the ball in his hand. Every single receiver had a down a year. Every one. He missed a lot of easy throws, and didn't try to make others.
erod are you hopeful watching this training camp

Show me the passes. I've seen two such throws in 2-on-2 action, but that's it. They were good throws with the WR running toward the sideline. Loved it and totally what we need IMO. Other than that I haven't seen a throw attempted by Dak like that.

Go route - yes
Rolling out of pocket to intermediate route - yes
In pocket to intermediate outside route - haven't seen them

We will never win anything significant with Garrett and Dak. They just aren’t good enough. Prepare to be average for their tenure.
The thing I love about this statements and others is the season is right here upon us.
The camp has shown Dak's long ball accuracy . His progressions are improved.
Thinking we cant win with this man is just curious

I'd be okay if we can scheme out of those throws too, rather than Dak having to be able to throw them. Maybe faster WRs on the outside will allow better success on go routes, and Dak has shown he can throw those. Maybe just having so many targets will do the trick -- last year if you take away Witten and Beasley inside there were only a few routes that Dez and Williams could run that Dak could consistently throw (mainly 'in' type routes). So with more targets maybe there just isn't one or two guys defenses can shut down and things open up again.

We just have to do something to keep defenses from clogging the middle again. And I didn't see anything from Rush or White in the first preseason game to make me think that they can throw those routes any better than Dak. Dak felt like the starter to me, even with just 3 throws.

Linhand has stated that they have been working on the long ball.
During the off season I heard from the haters that Dak couldnt throw the long ball with accuracy. now that criticism has changed.
So we have the cant throw the intermediate from the pocket?
