How Elite Has Tony Romo Been?

He has been more elite than most give him credit for. We will really miss Tony after he retires.

I hope not, but only because I hope that when that time comes we'll have either used a first-round pick on or somehow lucked into an adequate replacement.

I don't want a repeat of the years after Troy retired, and it doesn't have to happen. Jerry went about replacing Troy foolishly. Hopefully, he's learned that lesson and doesn't just rely on lucking into another Romo. There's a difference between lucking into such a player (I have a little hope in my heart for Dustin Vaughan that will probably turn out to be gas) and relying on that to happen.

The best thing is that I think most fans now agree with this. One or two years ago he caught flak, but I think in speaking to most people, the idea that he is a Loser or "Unclutch" has mostly evaporated.

It will return as soon as Dallas loses a game in the fourth quarter after Romo throws an interception. You've got those lying in wait for that to happen, to bring up win or go home games or whatever. This year just didn't give them any ammo (although I'm surprised that more didn't blame the GB loss on him) so they are waiting to reload.

If we keep backing him with a rushing attack and at least middle-of-the-pack defense, though, I don't think they'll get that chance.

Did he play well enough to win vs GB?

He's played well enough to win Super Bowls. He just never had the supporting cast. But he's the QB, so he'll take the brunt of the frustration from fans.

Romo, to me, is a top tier, elite QB. Right there with Brady, Rodgers and Manning. I will cling to his pant leg when he walks away from the game.

We're going to do this again?
No supporting cast - having to do it all. Asked to do too much.

Great, great, great stats.

When he is needed the most. Not so great.

I hope he wins us a Super Bowl so these threads mean something.

Right now, meaning of this thread = not so much.

What do you mean when we need him the most not so great?

Romo is on a list with all these Hall of Famers for a reason. He put himself there with his play.

Even more amazing when you consider that the quality of your team's defense and running game do make a difference, and Romo has not had the supporting cast that these others have had, for the most part.

We aren't supposed to consider the quality of the team. it's against the rules. I for one have never seen a QB do so much with out so much around him. But that doesn't matter in the judgment of Romo.

So forget about the supporting cast and just count the seasons in the top 10.

That's 9 Hall of Famers, Peyton, Brady, Brees, Ben, Favre, Anderson...and Romo.

Here's a good one. It's games with a passer rating between 95-110 in the last five years.

The rest of the league's QB are 298 -152 (.662) and Romo is 6-11 (.353).

the only one on that list with a losing record is Tony. The haters run and hide from lists like this because nothing better demonstrates just how completely stupid they ary.

Tony can play lights out and we still lose because the rest of the team does not get it done. Doesn't he have something like 5 of the top ten performances all time in losses? If that is not a honking great big hint that he has been on poor teams then nothing is. Worse then that is that we are just close enough to smell the roses but not good enough to close the deal. He gets the blame but it is mostly on Jerruh.

Great QBs win Super Bowls. They somehow find a way. Simple as that.

Romo may well go down as a QB who was good, just not quite good enough. Most Cowboys fans will blame it on everyone around him, and everyone else will say, he just wasn't good enough.

And then 2014 happens - we decide YES, we WILL run the ball, AND stick with it. We WILL play better on defense, and our WRs WILL know their routes (seriously - how long has it been before 2014 where you went games without seeing the WR run the completely incorrect route?). And Romo goes on to dominate the league.
The "decisions" to run the ball and stick with it, and play better on defense were really personnel/coaching improvements, and a more favorable schedule of opposing offenses.

Same Romo, though.

ROMO has never been our problem--he is great in my book.

Interesting that ROMO has the most loses of any of those QB's which is reflection of our sorry defenses!
