This seems to be one of the NFL’s favorite debate topics nowadays. How ever it boggles my mind that it still remains one. I recently read an article stating that the NFL “experts” placed Tony in the 12-15 category snuggled between Cutler and Newton. Cutler and Newton? I just don’t get it. This man has surpassed expectations. The Wisconsin bred un-drafted media frenzy, has proven time and time again that he is clutch and of extreme value to the Dallas Cowboys. (Revert back to 2014 season, week 9) Yet the scrutiny continues. Why? Is it because most critics don’t possess the football IQ most believe to be required to form opinions such as these. Or is it because people like to jump on the “hate trains” and follow the media because that’s easier than forming opinions of their own? Either way there is the collection of us that believe in Romo. A few of us that always have. I believe that he annoys so many people not because he is “so bad” but instead because he is “that good”. Some focus on his gift wrapped presents to defenders we more commonly know as interceptions. But the truth is the Cowboys gunslinger well, he is as clutch as they come. He has the 2nd highest 4th quarter completion percentage in the league, only behind The NFL’s golden boy Rodgers, and some still even compare him to the Dallas greats. Forgetting he surpasses them too.
In 12 NFL seasons, Troy Aikman completed 61.5 percent of his passes for 32,942 yards. He threw for 165 touchdowns and 141 interceptions. His career passer rating was 81.6.
- In 11 NFL seasons, Roger Staubach completed 57 percent of his passes for 22,700 yards. He threw for 153 touchdowns and 109 interceptions.
- In 9 NFL seasons, Romo has completed 65.2 percent of his passes for 33,270 yards. He’s thrown for 242 touchdowns and only 110 interceptions.
Tony Romo isn’t just an elite quarterback in this league. When all is said and done, he’ll be a Hall of Fame quarterback….No, he hasn’t won a ring—YET! But even with 2 back surgeries in the books, he still isn’t showing any sign of decline. The criticism Romo gets isn’t justified, but to be honest, I don’t think he cares. It seems to me that many push Romo’s accomplishments aside and focus on his hiccups. I mean, how long can you judge a man on a botched hold? I get it, he lost the game. It’s time to move on. Romo knows what fans are on what side of the fence and I believe he is content with that. There is nothing fictional about Tony Romo, and that my friends is a FACT!
