Tony Romo: Fact or fiction?

This seems to be one of the NFL’s favorite debate topics nowadays. How ever it boggles my mind that it still remains one. I recently read an article stating that the NFL “experts” placed Tony in the 12-15 category snuggled between Cutler and Newton. Cutler and Newton? I just don’t get it. This man has surpassed expectations. The Wisconsin bred un-drafted media frenzy, has proven time and time again that he is clutch and of extreme value to the Dallas Cowboys. (Revert back to 2014 season, week 9) Yet the scrutiny continues. Why? Is it because most critics don’t possess the football IQ most believe to be required to form opinions such as these. Or is it because people like to jump on the “hate trains” and follow the media because that’s easier than forming opinions of their own? Either way there is the collection of us that believe in Romo. A few of us that always have. I believe that he annoys so many people not because he is “so bad” but instead because he is “that good”. Some focus on his gift wrapped presents to defenders we more commonly know as interceptions. But the truth is the Cowboys gunslinger well, he is as clutch as they come. He has the 2nd highest 4th quarter completion percentage in the league, only behind The NFL’s golden boy Rodgers, and some still even compare him to the Dallas greats. Forgetting he surpasses them too.

In 12 NFL seasons, Troy Aikman completed 61.5 percent of his passes for 32,942 yards. He threw for 165 touchdowns and 141 interceptions. His career passer rating was 81.6.

- In 11 NFL seasons, Roger Staubach completed 57 percent of his passes for 22,700 yards. He threw for 153 touchdowns and 109 interceptions.

- In 9 NFL seasons, Romo has completed 65.2 percent of his passes for 33,270 yards. He’s thrown for 242 touchdowns and only 110 interceptions.

Tony Romo isn’t just an elite quarterback in this league. When all is said and done, he’ll be a Hall of Fame quarterback….No, he hasn’t won a ring—YET! But even with 2 back surgeries in the books, he still isn’t showing any sign of decline. The criticism Romo gets isn’t justified, but to be honest, I don’t think he cares. It seems to me that many push Romo’s accomplishments aside and focus on his hiccups. I mean, how long can you judge a man on a botched hold? I get it, he lost the game. It’s time to move on. Romo knows what fans are on what side of the fence and I believe he is content with that. There is nothing fictional about Tony Romo, and that my friends is a FACT!

What a fantastic season Romo had last year. I feel like watching each game over again to have an even higher appreciation for what he did.

Tony had a great season last season and there is nothing to criticize. His career as a whole, however, can't be measured simply by statistics. He would be the first one to tell you that. Its about winning and losing, and particularly, what does the QB do in the biggest games? I think Tony has gotten better in those categories as his career has progressed. If he retired today I would not put him in the hall of fame. But he isn't retiring today. No team has a classier QB, one who reflects so well on his franchise. Glad he's our QB and look forward to this season.

Did he play well enough to win vs GB?

In the spirit of this thread, he played well enough to win if everyone else had played well enough to win. But did he or does he have that "something" to take this team to the next level if everyone isn't doing what they should? Based on the arguments being presented here, that's a resounding NO!

Anyone who has Romo listed behind Cutler or Newton has lost all credibility with me. Behind Jay Cutler? Bahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! :lmao::laugh::lmao2:

Having said that, to the OP, Romo WILL NOT make the Hall of Fame without a ring. He doesn't have an MVP for the season nor any other hardware that would speak for him absent a ring. It's just not going to happen. He needs a ring to see the Hall.

:popcorn: Double helping will be needed for this one.

Honestly Dave I think those days are gone. Five years ago this would've been a 20 page thread but not now. You would look foolish.

You can argue about Hall of Fame but you cannot argue elite any longer. If the Dallas Cowboys can win a Super Bowl, he will go down with Kurt Warner as the greatest free agent story ever.

I sure hope you are right. The one thing I really disliked about the offseason are these Romo debates.

What SB wining QB does? Maybe I don't understand what you are saying.

If he plays for a few more years and continues to put up his great numbers, he could absolutely make the HOF without a ring. If his career ended today, then he would likely not make it due to his lack of a (team accomplishment) SB ring. The SB ring thing is such nonsense when judging a player's performance. Dilfer, Hostetler, Johnson, etc. have rings and they were nothing special at all. Romo has performed well in clutch situations and the playoffs (93 rating and a 4:1 TD to Int ratio). Hopefully his TEAM will perform better and he'll get that ring.

Marino says hi. With that logic, Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson say hello too.

I do think he played well enough to win vs. GB.
I thinks romo's problem is being in the same pantheon with Staubach, Aikman, Morton and yes, efen, Danny White. Those mens won a lot of playoff games, some won in Super Bowl games.
And in the final urinalysis, Romo's two career playoffs do not mean squat, as good and as elite he half been in the regular seaons. And lettuce remembers that manys of those seasons his teams went .500.
I am supremely impressed by his individual stats.
But his stats, again, do not mean squat when I look for more Super Bowl trophies in the display box at Valley Ranch with the help of this "elite" QB.

You need a balanced attack. When was the last time we had that? Murray ran for 125 against GB. Were they not in the playoffs to?
You need a defense that you can actually have on the field. Not one you hope your offense keeps off the field.
Romos not the very best QB in the league but he is top five IMOP.
Give him a offense like last year, add some defense and you have a championship team.

No I love me some Romo. I wanted the team to look to him earlier in both games. Murray was productive and the team was balanced, but we also let the teams linger with this formula. I know we were protecting the D to a point. But points can protect the D too.
